is this related to the news that

SSD actually consume more power than normal HDD?

Nice Chart :) It seems an SSD would have to use less power... no moving parts...

It was discussed on Slashdot. The tests aren't really valid since they don't reflect real-word usage (or so I've gathered from a few comments).

No Firewire, no purchase.
No true ethernet port, no purchase.
No video out, no purchase.
Just a single USB port, no purchase.

That easy to make it right!

So in other words, you want a MacBook.

Each product is geared toward a certain audience. As you well know, you're not part of it.

Amen. Just because it isn't right for you doesn't mean it's perfect for someone who doesn't need the extra ports that will never be used. Think I've used a non USB port on my iBook twice.

as always, /. comments are filled with speculations but no real prediction. No result can please everybody, I would like commentators to come up with a set of tests.....:)

bah...MBA is a huge joke. MBP destroys it and all other computers.
As stated so many times before, the MBA is aimed towards a certain audience. You are obviously not part of that audience. I would think everyone would know that 5 months after the MBA release.
--------------
I like how they updated the 'Configure you Mac' page. It looks very nice now.

When did the price of 4GB of RAM drop? 4GB of RAM is only $200 for the MBA, but for the MP, it's $500.

thats fine, I just remembered when MBA was out, so many people here at MR think its so great, and spreading the news that MBA is out of stock, so it must has very good sales.

......

Can we have a sales number please? so many months passed...

???

People actually have negative reactions to this? Goes to show you can't please all the people all the time.

Any price drop is a good thing.
Why not just drop the price of the stock model to at least $1599 too?

Maybe this is Apple's response to weak sales of the SSD version. But they may also be trying to clear out inventory in advance of a model with a larger SSD. That will happen at some point, but maybe it'll be sooner than some think.

I would rather get a mackbook. For a THOUSAND DOLLARS LESS you get the top of the line macbook with the same screen size, and plus you get more usb ports, actually have firewire, has a damn superdrive. 186 gb more drive space, stereo headphones, and the video out hookups, plus 2 more gigs of ram. plus the fact its a better processor (2.4 vs. 1.8). And at least you can replace the battery, hard drive, expand the ram and such all yourself.

I'm getting around 4 hours on macbook and thats still pretty impressive compared to most of the laptops on the market

logic says the higher the price the better the product. but in the mba case, the price is just all for looks. No way would I spend a thousand dollars more because I want to save .003 inches in my bag.

Way to leave out the most important feature: It's 2 pounds lighter.

To some people that IS worth $1,000. You're not one of those people. Good for you.

But those people exist, so what are you complaining for? You got something against them that you don't want them to have a product they like?

No, it isn't

Other people would (that is, other people think the weight and thinness tradeoff is worth it).

Meh, Battery Life still isn't that great. That's pretty much the only thing that's keeping me from buying one. Doens't get close to the advertized 5 hrs. I'd skip on the high end model. Would rather have a larger Hard drive (160GB like in iPod classic) than a smaller but faster one.

AMEN!!!!!! Preach on! Preach on! Preach ON!!

*although, I still love the complete and utter dominance of the MBP....Mmmm, delicious!*

Obviously.

And he probably has all sorts of brilliant ideas for Apple's marketing...

Refurbs not on-board yet...

This is great news about the price drop. The refurbs have not had a price adjustment as of yet. The refurb selling price for the 1.8/SSD is still $2,699. As for today, I say to BUY NEW!!! :D
