Every other Tiger update has changed my airport card connectivity - luckily for me, its the odds that make it work well. I remember people saying the .10 fixed all their problems and and others saying it caused all of their problems. Seems like its going to happen again - did Apple install two different kinds of airport cards over the last year?

I have had the dropped wireless issue on the MBP w/ 10.4.10. It only occurs for me on battery power (fine when plugged into ac). The fix for me was to switch the router to B only (not B&G- It is an Airport Express). Macbook Pro is rock solid and 4 bars all the time w/no dropouts. If I switch it to Mixed mode (B&G) it will go to 2 bars, strentgh goes up and down and will drop within a minute or two. I didn't want to downgrade to 10.4.9, so I leave it in B mode only, and have not had a drop to date. (doesn't really bother me as I use the network for DSL only- no wireless file transfer). Anyone use the MBP w the airport extreme gigabit router and have dropouts in N mode ? (mixed or N only ?) Just curious.

FC Studio Issue

Well since installing i'm having a lot of trouble... safari quits when i try and watch a quicktime thats embedded into a page and also and more importantly my pro app like FCP and DVDSP won't launch.... HELP!

Also I'm running x.4.11 on a powermac G4 dual1.42 and its Final Cut Studio 1

You might want to reconsider:

Your Mac Pro has Gigabit Ethernet ports (1000baseT), the 857 you mentioned has slower (100baseT)

But if there are no other GigE capable hosts on my network, I don't think I yet need that potential bandwidth boost.

Localhost change?

Everything seems fine on the Mac, but a PC on the same local subnet can no longer see the localhost name for the "Web" site I had set up on the Mac. I checked all the usual parameters, including whether Personal Web Sharing is running, and have found nothing wrong. The PC can still hit it with an IP address, but that gets changed sometimes and so I'd rather go back to the localhost method. Anybody else (a) using this and (b) seeing a difference since going to 10.4.11? It's not a big deal, but I'd like to fix it if possible. TIA for any help!

Finally I can have Tiger: The Spinal Tap edition! "This operating system goes to eleven"

again: DOES THIS UPDATE FIX THE AIRPORT DROPPING CONECTION PROBLEM ON MACBOOKS?

I CAN'T HEAR YOU, CAN YOU USE A BIGGER FONT?

I don't recall 10.3.9 users getting Safari 2 back in 2005.

You're right, we didn't.

When Tiger was released I said, I'm not buying every version, I'll skip Tiger and wait till the next one.

Then last summer I started running into more and more websites that wouldn't work on Safari 1.x. They wanted Safari 2 or higher, or Firefox, and I couldn't upgrade to Safari 2.x without Tiger. So then I ended up with this mismash of Safari for most sites, but I'd open FF if I needed to look at certain sites, and what a pain, so I upgraded my home box to Tiger.

But in the end, Tiger is as far as my ol' G4 Quicksilver can go. No Leopard for me! Until I get my new MBP.

Thankfully, I'm not having any issues with my weather widget. But the stock widget's changed a little bit. Its now all yahoo and stuff...

I am however having problems logging in to my hotmail (or windows live as its now called). I've been having issues since the last iteration of Safari, and even Safari 3 is still having the same issues. Am I alone, or is anyone else also having issues?

Also getting an annoyance with the BBC's news site. The scroll bar at the bottom appears and stays there. I have to scroll down til its out of my frame, then when I scroll back up its gone. Annoying as hell

The combo screwed up my computer

So I downloaded the combo update and started the install. Near the end of the install I wanted to look at the About This Mac window which is the hot corner for my screen saver. Well, the computer flipped to a blue screen and the spinning icon popped up like it was restarting. Only it just sat their and did nothing for several minutes. I was forced to do a hard restart as the computer was unresponsive. To make a long story short, it turns out I had to get the system disk out and do an archive and install. Annoying. **end rant**

I had problems loggin in to messenger when i installed the safari 3 (beta), so i decide to get rid of it. Until i'm not sure that this update (10.4.11) o safari 3 has corrected the problem i will not upgrade.

20" Alu iMac, 2.4 Ghz and still not freezing… :D

Shouldn't the finalized version of Safari 3 have the pdf toolbar? In the helps files, there's an article that describes how to use it, but I have yet to see it. Any other 10.4.11 user know if it's there??

Solution for non-startup after 10.4.11 update

I found a solution here (see post number 15):

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1240189

Basically you need to download the Combo 10.4.11 update (not the Delta one) using another Mac and copy it to a USB flash disk (or directly to the broken Mac's hard drive using FireWire target disk mode).

Then start up using the Tiger install DVD, start Terminal from the Utilities menu and install the update using the following command line template:

"/Volumes/<hard drive name>/usr/sbin/installer" -pkg "<path to update>/MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.11Intel.pkg" -target "/Volumes/<hard drive name>"

For example:

"/Volumes/Macintosh HD/usr/sbin/installer" -pkg "/Volumes/USB Disk/MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.11Intel.pkg" -target "/Volumes/Macintosh HD"

Ignore any error messages. When it has finished it will say "installer: The install was successful". You can then quit Terminal, quit Installer and choose Restart. Be patient - it will start up this time!

Hope this helps someone - it fixed my non-booting MacBook Pro after 3 hours of tearing my hair out.

Geez, with all these reported issues, me thinks i'll delay on both 10.4.11 and Leopard. I hate jumping the gun and paying for it.

Safari for me is completely unusable. It crashes on EVERYTHING. Even trying to close a window crashes it.

I might re-download the BETA version.

On a plus side my macbook-airport problems are now fixed. Hasn't dropped out yet and connected to both my airport express and my d-link router just fine.

Whoop.

Airport cards over the years uses different chipsets.

Not sure whether there are different types over the last year, but there are definitely differet chipsets for the intel macs.

MBP 17" Santa Rosa 2.4ghz. Had same problem of dropping connection at my house. Got the Airport Extreme Gigabit. No drop with it.

Had trouble with Airport Express. PowerBook G4 17" would get 4 bars, and MBP will get 1 bar or no bar. That Airport Express station is running old software though.

With airport express at another location, constant drops. Updated Airport Express software, and after that no drops.

So, log into your basestation and see if there is a software update, you might have to wait a minue for the update thing to pop up, so just leave the airport admin program running for awhile.

You should try AdiumX, it's pretty good IM client compatible with multiple services.

Well that didn't work  It said it had successfully installed, but upon restart, same nastiness...blue screen and my fan is howling rrrrrrr

10.4.11 is just what I've been waiting for, so I immediately installed it yesterday night.

The download was quite huge at 330MB since mine ran 10.4.8, but everything seems to be working fine just like it was before.

Never, NEVER screw with any installation. Quit all applications when installing something that alters the system at all. That is a very bad idea, as you found out. I even close Finder, like the installers used to do before OSX.

Worse off with .11

My AirPort connection drops in and out a lot now. And my favicons have disappeared from my Safari bookmarks menu. Slightly faster boot time (I think).

i found an easier way of solving it:

i had the same problem and was able to fix it by doing an archive + install, just select the option that allows you to backup your current osx. after that finishes, download and install the combo update. it should take a few minutes to reboot at times so just be patient. after that's all done, run a software update and finally delete the folder "previous systems" that was generated as a backup.

no need to format. might need a few gigabytes of extra hard drive space to pull this one off though.

Lo, another chapter in the deepening suckage of OS X updates. I guess with all its financial woes, Apple can't afford to do any testing. :p

Staying at 10.4.9 here. My MBP is purring, so why light its tail on fire?
