Why does everyone feel the need to report how big the update is every-time one is released? Couldn't someone just simply run software update if they were curious as to its size? It's pretty annoying when you want to read about people's impressions of an update and 75% of the posts are just reporting the size.

Yeah, I got my hopes up. It really makes no sense that this feature is tied to the iPhone/iPod Touch at all. I'd love to be able to sync my contacts with Gmail. Oh well. Maybe next update.

It worked for me with an old nano. Just fixed the family id to 10001 as described above and then I plugged it in.
Synchronising started immediately and now I have all contacts in my gmail account.
Only problem I see is that the groups are not transferred.
But anyways... great feature for me.

Great! After installing, I want to do a backup. I have partitioned my drive into 3, with a Back Up section and two others, so I don't want to format otherwise I'll lose the other two sections.

SuperDuper seems incompatible as its stuck at 97.51MB and says I shouldn't quit (to try CCC) because it may leave the Back Up drive in an unknown state. Anyone have any advice?

Hmm, I didn't actually plug in an iPod, since I don't currently have one to plug in. But that's good to know. I might be able to arrange something.

That's fine, but you can't argue that it isn't wasting time.

Do you also believe that you can catch cold by being outside in the winter without a coat?

Of course I can argue it's not wasting time. If I click a download link and let it do its thing in the background while I go about my other planned activities for the day, what time was wasted? Perhaps it's just semantics, but there's no time wasted as far as I am concerned. If you are in a hurry to apply the update, you could say that it will delay the process by an amount of time as yet to be determined (until you compare download and install times both ways) without an argument by me, but that's not a waste of time.

As far as catching a cold outside without a coat, I generally don't wear a coat in cold weather, but in sunny Southern California, that's hardly an issue to worry about. I don't believe wearing a coat is a factor, but there was an article on Dr. Mirkin's website a while back that reported research was showing that a scarf/muffler over your nose appears to be a factor. The theory is that cold air reduces the movement of virus killing hairs and mucous in your nostrils, allowing a virus to enter your system that would otherwise have been killed in that first line of defense. I'd google the article for you, but since you asked the question as a form of insult, I won't take the time on your behalf.

We can banter the point back and forth all day if you want. But I'll point out that more people have chimed in with there's no disadvantage to this than have on the other side of the issue.

I'll tell you what, I'll say you win the argument here, you are more intelligent than I am, you are probably better looking, make more money, have more experience, have more friends, have more toys, live in a nicer neighborhood, have a sexier girlfriend/boyfriend (whichever you prefer) and are just a generally all around better part of the overall universe than I am, but I have a bigger you know what, and you'll always envy me for it. Fair enough? ;-)

Derwood (or anyone else who has installed 10.5.3)--

How is Logic running on your updated machine? Which version of Logic are you using?

Logic runs the same as it did before the 10.5.3 update.
And spaces works with multiple windows like "arrange on the left, mixer on the right" in Logic 8.0.2
Boot time for logic is a little bit faster to. But I'm still having pops and clicks using my internal and external soundcard at the same time (aggregate device editor) , in whatever configuration I use, probably something I'm doing wrong.

Time Machine now FINALLY works perfectly with Aperture. FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please clarify this further:

Are you saying that you can

1) Run aperture
2) Back up aperture library within time machine profile
3) Have time machine run WHILE you are running Aperture
4) Time machine will only backup the changed files and not the entire library
5) No corruption in doing so.

If these are all true - happy days!

Also: ANYONE WITH THE "OLD" Mac Pro and the 8800 Nvidia card - I was hoping that new drivers would boost the pathetic performance seen (see barefeats) - any feedback on this?

If your tm drive is mounted but the backup image isn't, then your image has probably become corrupted. I've had this happen in 10.5.2. Restart and try again, but you may have to delete your backups and start over.

anyone else now having problems backing up wirelessly to an AEBS hard drive? I'm getting "backup failed: cannot mount drive" errors even though my TM drive is mounted....

safari seems snappier... but

it crashes when macromedia flash is used.. crashed twice since ive installed the update.

It appears to have fixed the copying of files larger than 4Kb from a Mac to a Windows share. Before they would show up as 0Kb files that were in use and could not be deleted. Glad that is taken care of.

Now if the performance of VM Ware could be improved, at least back to 10.5.1 levels, I would be a happy camper.

D.

DON'T upgrade if you like quicksilver!

10.5.3 breaks Quicksilver. After a few minutes of Quicksilver running everything becomes un-clickable. The only way to fix it is quit QS... I'd hold off on upgrading until someone resolves the issue.

Yes I tested it and it works!!! I am so happy about this!

stupid update!

I updated and how their little "fix" for spaces has only caused me problems: now when I switch between spaces it sees the finder as the finder as the application that it should be in, which can get quite annoying as when you don't have anything open in a space it will default to the finder. before it would just switch to the last used application in that space: Before I was assigning each application to another space, and used one space for all my finder clutter now I have the slight anoyence of being forced to switch between the finder and the application that was last opened in another space, such as firefox or itunes. Quite annoying. A simple work around is to use the command tab feature to switch to the program. On further review, it looks like apple wants the finder to run like another application. It isn't one though. The other thing that I hate that happened is that my computer refuses to have a transparent menu br, something that I really liked, as when I chose the apropriate background it looked quite neat. I don't know if this is because I need to do another restart or not.

I can say however that the most annoying problem that my computer has: native cocoa applications seem to beleive that a very very dark green is the default "black" color causing everything to have a greenish tint. This msut be a rare problem as i have not seen any other mac have this problem. It would be nice however if it were fixed. I might have to bring my MBP (late 07) in to get this little probem checked out as it only started when 10.5 was installed.

Someone in this thread reported VNC problems... Well, I can confirm that my VNC does not work anymore as well. It complains about "no matching security types" when I try to connect. :(

DOCK DOCK DOCK DOCK!!!!

FIX THE DOCK APPLE!!!!

There is STILL no way to SINGLE-CLICK a FOLDER in the DOCK and have it just, ummmmm, OPEN!!!! DUH!!!!

To have to do 2 clicks just to open a folder in the dock is SOOOOO WINDOWS!

Also, Safari STILL fails to block many pop-up windows.

Quicksilver still works for me. I have problems using Function for double tap modifier only activation, but that happened before the update came out.
