Minimized iTunes Icon Behaves Erratically

I found another problem with this upgrade. I don't know where the problem lies, with the 10.5.3 upgrade or the iTunes version 7.6.2.

Sometimes the minimized iTunes icon buttons will not respond or they respond in a weird way.

Also sometimes the icon will follow my cursor around wildly on the screen, frequently hiding in a corner where I have to fish it out.

This is a very annoying problem that should receive immediate attention.

Do you mean when iTunes is zoomed to the minicontroller? as minimized is very different.

10.5.3 seems to have stymied my wireless reception, unless it's just a coincidence. full signal to a tiny one bar signal after update, using the old dome airport and a new mbp. installed time machine but still rubbish reception outside. makes screen sharing unusable. at least the wpa encryption works now though.... waiting for the dreaded connection drop to start reoccurring... ok so far

When I got a Mac a while ago I borrowed Logic 8 from work to check it out. Installed it and loaded up some included demo songs to get a feel for it (hadn't tried Logic since the days it was an Emagic product). After 4 crashes in less than 15 minutes I just shrugged and uninstalled it, hoping Cubase would fare better. Yeah, it kinda did, so the next step was to install drivers for my Yamaha 01X firewire device. Uh... not, because there were no working Tiger drivers yet (this was in the fall of 2007!). Gave up on that too. Then Leopard came along in October and I installed it (breaking Cubase of course, had to wait till Feb 2008 for a Leopard-compatible update). Meanwhile I tried to get Yamaha drivers again. Yep, now there were Tiger drivers were finally available... but incompatible with Leopard. Next update scheduled for Jan 2008. When I finally had everything (Mac running Leopard, Leopard-compatible Cubase, Leopard compatible 01X drivers) after 6 months of waiting, I sat down with baited breath and installed everything, rebooted and.... hmm, is the screen supposed to be blue for that long? Waited 1 minute... 2 minutes... 5 minutes... 10 minutes... still a blank blue screen on startup. Really loving this "one and only platform for audio".

Went back to Windows and business as usual. I use the Mac for graphics only now..

My experience has been just the opposite of yours.

We made the move from Windows XP Pro on a high end PC to OSX 10.4 on the Mac Pro in 1996. Cubase was then and still is our main DAW software. We also continued to us MOTU firewire audio interfaces.

The transition from PC to Mac could not have been smoother or easier. In fact, we found that the Mac Pro/Cubase combination was much more powerful then the PC/Cubase combination was.

One's experience with moving from PC to Mac depends on proper planning; casual "giving the Mac platform a try" implementation will only end in disappointment. One must make sure that all plugins are compatible and that the drivers for the audio interface used is current and ready for prime-time use. Often, it is also important to make sure that all the setting in your DAW are correct for OSX use and not set for PC use.

Sorry you had the problem, however, I believe that if you tried again and did the proper planning your experience would be much different.

ok

the ram got fixed had to take it to a apple store near me and there was like 30-40 employees working at the same time so they gave me a free $500 worth of ram yay

They gave you free ram because there were a lot of staff working at the same time? I'm going to an :apple:Store... :D

The Psystar webpage was updated this morning to say that they are working on it.

The Pystar computer just runs OSx86, dosent it? As far as I know there is some threads on InsanleyMac telling you how to get the update on OSx86...

I've had the sticking icon on iTunes previous to .3. Only happens with my wireless Mighty mouse.

I don't think that Psystar has ever specifically said exactly what hacks they made to get Leopard to run. In any case, if I had a Psystar box I would not install an update without having them bless it first. They won't support any upgrades they haven't OK'ed, and if the machine turns into a brick the only option would likely be shipping it back to them since you would not be able to reinstall from the Leopard install media.

That would've been System 7 in 1996.:)

My MBP kept crashing after I installed this update. It turned out to be the drivers for a Huawei E870 Express Data Card on Vodafone, UK. You can download an update from Vodafone now and all works great again.

Problems installing

Hi there, I download the update last week but I was working so I don't install it right the way. On sunday I try to install it but the installation hang over on the "Configuring Installation" and stays that way forever... I let my MB make that update over the night but in the morning it was in the same place...

PLEASE HELP!!

Cheers.

P.S.-> Sorry bad english

10.5.3 works fine but it hastn fixed my airport problem.. :(:(
Everything is up2date, even the router firmware.. but simply watching movies on youtube keeps me disconnecting.. and all workarounds havnt worked out for me *sigh* can't believe it.. such a great OS with worthless wifi support.

Confessing my stupidity...

I've been sooooo busy. But yesterday, I had time to read this thread. Had no idea 10.5.3 was out, so I wanted to know all the pitfalls before upgrading. Went home last night all set to prepare, making sure my Time Machine backup was intact, made a fresh clone via Super Duper...when I noticed...I had already upgraded! Was I too tired? Too drunk? Or just too stupid? Who knows?

Anyway, it didn't fix my USB devices/drives not being recognized problem. I haven't even noticed one other thing. Too busy, for sure.

But... Mail still crashes if you drag a file to the dock icon (and have at least one signature and plain-text composing)

This is an easily reproducible bug, which I really thought they would have fixed in 10.5.3.

I have now joined ADC and submitted a full bug report, and have had a response back from Engineering who are looking into this further, so fingers crossed for the next update here.

EDIT: They have got back to reporting this bug has already been logged. I should add that this prob occurred about when the Safari 3.1 Upgrade came out, so an update to WebKit / Safari may end up solving it.

For you maybe. Mine works just fine in everything I do. However, I do hope Apple does fix the issues that people do have with their WiFi since it does seem so widespread.

Might I ask, is it an Apple router?

No unusual problems noted

I updated yesterday (big job finally over) and it took less than 15 minutes. 420 MB version, did it through Software Update, no hangs or crashes. I did unplug all my printers, scanners, and external drives having read speculation earlier in this thread that it might have caused problems. It may be superstition, but I did it anyway. I did no repairing of permissions either before or after. (I've never done that in connection to software updating, actually, and my first Mac (that was my very own :D) ran 8.5.)

I reproduced the Mail crashing on dragging a file to its dock icon (sent report to Apple), although I had to switch to plain-text format (as others had mentioned) for it to hang. I usually use Rich Text, though. Also, I get consistent tones, but I'm using system defaults.

Wifi is strong and consistent. No drops, (but then, I haven't had that problem previously) on either the Mac Pro or the Power Book. I use a D-Link wireless router.

I'm not sure what's different about my setup that the update has been so flawless, (Early '08 Mac Pro, 10 GB RAM, 8800GT, 1x500 GB & 2x750 GB internal drives, 23" ACD, 20" Cintiq) but frankly, that was the least eventful system update I've ever run. The only consistent issue I'd had up to this point (haven't tried it yet under 10.5.3) is After Effects randomly locking up when scrubbing audio... seemed to happen most when I had Mail and iChat open, so I'd close those and it seemed to solve the problem, although it put me in a communication black hole of sorts ;). I'll keep an eye out for things that don't work as they did before the update, but so far, things are working well.

10.5.3 was totally worth (for me at least), it fixed my airport (I couldn't connect to my d-link router). Now it's all good :D

I hope nothing got broken...
