Iv just installed. Im running my normal apps and things seem to be pretty well! I have not ran vmware yet, hopefully that was untouched.

I swear apple is the only company when you update something like this.. it makes things go faster. Because its "screaming" as steve jobs says.

my normal programs are opening so much faster and smoother atleast i think so. The start up seemed a bit slow, like its not showing my clock right away. But maybe it needs to get things situated a bit.

Did anyone answer the question about why some of the download sizes were different? 10.5.3 was smaller for the MacBook than for the MacBook Pro. Also , I didn't get the raw photo patch for iPhoto for the MacBook but did for the MacBook Pro. Hmmm.

Just a hunch but my guess is it's about drivers. The MBP has ambient light sensor for the screen and backlit keyboard and other exclusive features.

my MacBook Pro had the smaller, 198MB download. so did others' MBPs. I don't think it's that... and I'm pretty sure I saw posts with macbooks having the larger update...

Go back to software update, and get the fix for the patch that inadvertently disabled your apostrophe key.

If that patch doesn't work, contact Apple support for a new keyboard - your keyboard is obviously broken.

Other than that, a good update it seems. ;)

There should be a sticky or FAQ on update sizes, as it seems to be a huge topic of conversation everytime there's an update.

Software update looks at your system and it applies the right patch for it. The size may differ depending on architecture and changes that have been made to your system.

There's no consistent way to work out which systems get which updates, so I don't see why so many posts go on about it...

The amount of conclusion drawing is consistent with other mac users love of voodoo like running 'repair permissions' before and after everything they do.

Odd. I've never had a problem with the 'new mail sound' with Leopard. I just tested the genie effect too and it's pretty snappy. I'm using a 1.6 MBA. Have you guys upgraded from a previous install of Tiger?

My installation of Leopard was a clean install. It's true that this "mail alert problem" doesn't affect everyone, but has been a documented problem for many.

I love this update!

Everything's just a little bit faster.

The installation recovered some disk space.

And the weird sound problems have vanished.

Great job Apple!

:D

Is that a new icon for sites?

Didn't notice it being like that before.

Hey,
After I updated to 10.5.3, all of my boyfriend's missing album artwork (that mysteriously disappeared when he started synching his iPod Touch from our new iMac rather than his old hp) came back!

Oh, ok. So basically, I can just make an alias of /Library/WebServer/Documents ?
Nah... there's a subtle difference...

Whatever you put in /Library/WebServer/Documents can be accessed from http://yourcomputer/ while the stuff in ~/Sites can be found from http://yourcomputer/~yourusername/

So you don't really need any aliases. :)

Look in your Sharing.prefpane -> Web Sharing, the links shown there (when you've turned web sharing on, of course) there should work...

Only difference I've noticed is that it spends less time on the blue screens upon start up. /its been pretty solid for me since 10.2 so I cant complain.

Icons?! Who notices icons?! : )

I haven't used anything but column view in OS X (10.3, 10.4, and 10.5). I would still love a Windows Explorer-like interface, but columns is pretty good. Though Explorer does frustrate me that Shortcuts aren't as flexible as Aliases.

Do folks still open multiple folders and use icons like back in the OS9 days? Column View was such a godsend.

I also wish OS X could get on OS standardized method of maximizing a window. Is it really that hard? Sigh.

Off-topic.

Overall, not much noticeable difference in 10.5.3 from previous 10.5 flavors. Except no more KPs on MacBooks with 4GB of RAM using DVD Player (yea!!) and Airport seems to be totally stable.

FYI, 10.5.3 and Fusion 1.1.2 was fine and 10.5.3 and Fusion 2beta also seems fine.

Happy computing.
