I think that was fixed for me with 10.5.5

Ya. It started working better for me in 10.5.4.

I would mess with the channels on your router. I forget what the default was on my Linksys, but when I picked another channel, my MPB started connecting flawlessly....

Well, the "update within a minute" doesn't work for me. I enter a new event in mobile me and nothing on the iPhone or desktop after 5 minutes...

10.5.6 has installed okay for me. Phew. However, time machine is taking a while to back up. Quite a while...

Why did they do this?

That's my battery meter. Notice something missing?

The power selector! I am forced to run on battery performance now... WTF APPLE...

Forced?

Go to System Preferences --> Energy Saver.

It is annoying they took that out, but to be honest, I never switch between Energy modes anyway. If I want longer battery, I just dim down my display and turn the display off when I'm AFK.

I hate it. It's typical Apple thinking. Take the choice away from the people, at first people will complain but eventually they will slowly follow you.

Gah, I want my choice back. I used to play games on my macbook pro without the cord.

Mine never did start. I opened the TM disk and found the latest backup directory to "Get Info" on it. When I did that the disk started spinning and TM started "backing up" (it hasn't finished yet and I have to shutdown so I don't know if it will). Also found this thread:

claims to uncheck shutdown disks in Energy Prefs

Brett

After waiting for almost 30 minutes the backup finally started and it had ~2gb of data to backup. Mine is on Time capsule so it could take longer to do it over wifi

Yup, my battery meter is also the same. Seems like the previous feature can only be resurrected through systems preferences.

Sorry I stand corrected. We can also retrieve the old feature through Energy Saver Preferences.

By the way, I did not remove my external hard disk (time machine) while posting this message but I suddenly received a warning that a suddenly removal of my hard disk may cause back up data to be lost. Strange...

Any ideas?

Can anyone point me to these supposed iTunes graphics updates? I don't notice anything new.

The update is different sizes depending on what machine you have. I had 190MB install as well but for recent unibody people I believe theirs was 372MB. The combo update was 668.8MBs.

It has been like that since Leopard iirc.

Really? I never noticed it... Well, thanx for the info. ;)

I just tried it on my Macbook with 10.5.5 and it is 1 minute. It has always been 1 minute on Leopard for me, on both iMac and Macbook.

weird. Oh well, thanks for the clarification. I never wait more than a few seconds to hit the button anyways :) Oh God what I would give to be able to use a Mac at work!!!

Am I dreaming or is h264 playback now handled through GPU (like on the unibody macbooks)? Activity monitor seems to be showing less CPU utilization during playback, can someone confirm this?

I am not sure I have been wondering the same thing too.
Right now, through iTunes I am download a 1080p versions of Bolt and Quantum of Solace trailers. When it is done, I will report back. What should the CPU % Utilization be for User and or quicktime processes to know whether it is being processed by the GPU?

After the new update (10.5.6) I have the following problem:
When I try to launch mail.app - if will start, but crash right away.... Tried rebooting, doing this several times.. no change.
As soon as mail.app is launched, it will crash/quit with the error report/relaunch box.

Battery Menu

Has anyone notices that on notebooks the batter menu has changed? You no longer have the direct option to change your battery settings. You now have to go into Energy Saver Preferences.

I would try repairing the permissions to see if that helps.
