Did exactly that, and rebooted.....icon hasn't changed though....

Anyone notice weird restart behavior? My MacBook's sleep indicator was lit, suggesting the display was sleeping while the machine was on. I had to press the power button, and it hummed for a minute, then reboot automatically. SEemed to take longer than average.

Just made an update in iCal and it took 19 minutes to sync with MobileMe. Pity, that was the only thing I was really needing to happen, everything else had been fine.

I've got the same problem. Changes to bookmarks and contacts initiate a sync immediately after the change is completed, but not so for calendar changes. Made a change in iCal 10 minutes ago, and still waiting for it to sync.

Doesn't seem to be a universal problem - in post #161 in this thread, the user reports that iCal changes show up almost immediately.

Anyone else having this same problem? Please post, and send feedback to Apple!

This may have always been here...but I don't ever remember seeing it so:
If you right click a stack to change its settings you can now "View content as" a list. I've been looking for something like this because I have many levels of folders in my documents. I've played around with stacks' settings before, and I don't recall this. Possible a cool new feature (though not as appealing to the eye as fan for some, I guess).

It is not new, came with 10.5.2 I believe.

Just updated and magically my external HD plugged into airport has automatically started to back up Time Machine. Previously, I had to physically mount the drive via connect to server and select the drive. Awesome!

Wow. I've installed Vista SP1, XP SP3, and a couple of Windows Server service packs - and haven't had this much drama.

Even though, as I've said, I'd never think of doing a service pack or a Patch Tuesday a few days before a trip to Europe or China - when I come home and install them "it just works"™.

Some of the comments are right on - Apple is becoming Microsoft, and Microsoft is becoming Apple. In particular, I like the comments like "Are you stupid? Use the combo update. Software Update never works."

I love your posts, really do, but on what planet does any update go without issues... XP ok because that was my experience and Vista too, but server packs... no ... Service packs is why God invented valium.

Well, I'm not Window's biggest fan, but I've never had any problems with any Windows update. Yes, lots of people have, but not me. I've been using Windows since Window 3.1 was bright and shiny.

But then, I've never had any issues with any OS X update either, either with Software Update or the combo updater (which I've used ever since I got our second Mac to save on downloads). Yes, lots of people have, but not me.

I'm personally not going to extrapolate from my own experience.

I'm 16 pages into reading the thread and have yet to find someone with the same issue, so forgive me if I missed it somewhere.

My installation has been stuck for over an hour, but not on "configuring installation." Rather, the progress bar is stuck at the very beginning of "finishing installation," so I'm extremely wary of force restarting, sine my early 08 MBP has gone through a chunk of the update process.

Not sure if it has much to do with the problem, but right before restarting for the update, I was loading sings into iTunes and repeatedly got a "cannot save iTunes library error" (-54). I tried to force quit iTunes, but both iTunes and LastFM refused to force quit, and only quit as part of the update restart. Could that be a reason for the stalled update? I do have a backup, but it's about 2 weeks old.

Any advice?

Quick update on my hangup above: after about an hour and a half with no progress, I also force restarted, even though my stall seemed to be unique because it happened after the update had run almost completely, rather than during "configuring installation."

After some heartbeats skipped, everything started up normally and 10.5.6 seemed to have been installed already. I downloaded teh Combo Update and rerun it anyway, to be safe. So far, so good.

the -54 error means you don't have permission to write the file.
the other symptoms sound like your disk is full.

how much free space was left on your disk?

Could it be something common to all of these machines that is making it not work? I probably would have stopped after 1 or maybe 2 machines ....

Isn't that the fun part? :)

Who cares, its 1 icon people! In the troubles of today's economy, one should not be concerned with a pritty light bulb picture!

why cannot they add 4 finger trackpad to this upgrade

why cannot apple be less bitchy and add 4 finger trackpad feature in the upgrade, I was looking forward to it.

hmm.. The amount of positives to negatives on this thread is almost exactly a 1:1 ratio!

I guess i'm going to hold off on updating :x

I just figure out when the exposé animation gets choppy.. when I'm downloading something in iTunes the animation gets choppy.. anyone knows why this happens?..

mobile me finally works well...it is now what it should have been in july. Still, at least they got to it...

I skipped 10.5.5. Will there be any problem jumping from 10.5.4 to 10.5.6? Or, do I have to install the combo update? Thanx.

I just updated from 10.5.4 to 10.5.6 without any problem. Downloading took like 2 hours though, but installation went smoothly without a hitch.

I had to call apple tech support because of the update.

So I was all excited about the update and proceeded to download it. After my macbook went to restart, it just stopped at "installing 1 item". I left the computer alone for like two hours while I attended meetings at work figuring it just needed some time. But the update had locked up my computer and I had to call apple care to resolve the issue. What they told me was that other customers had the same issue and that I needed to shutdown my computer using the power button and download it from apple's website and install it that way. Now my computer seems to be working fine. I hope everyone else is doing alright.

Am I dreaming or is h264 playback now handled through GPU (like on the unibody macbooks)? Activity monitor seems to be showing less CPU utilization during playback, can someone confirm this?

just updated my early 2008 macbook through software update and everything went smoothly. i can't say that the update fixed a certain issue i may have had since i didn't have any, so yes happy mac user here!

My MacBook Pro restarted twice when rebooting but everything seems fine. I like the TrackPad section they added in system preferences. I was hoping for multi-touch but knew it wasn't going to happen haha.

Also I am surprised that no articles are mentioning that this fixed the 10 or 20 minute delay when syncing to MobileMe from your Mac and says it will sync within a minute now no matter where you are making changes on your computer, online, or any device. That was pretty publicized as a con to MobileMe and Apple even stepped back on their "Push for the rest of us" slogan because of that and now they fix it and nobody even mentions it???

I am quite satisfied with this update!

Overall graphics performance is improved with my early 2008 Macbook 2.4 ghz with the Intel GMA X3100 graphics chipset. The internet, regardless of browser used, seems faster.

Probably around 10.6.3. Since Snow Leopard is going to be written in Cocoa, it should help solve many problems that have not been able to be fixed since the very beginning of OS X. At first, there will be a lot of bugs that Apple doesn't catch, but Mac OS X should be better than ever by 10.6.3.

Of course, you are right, but that is what I get for my money and that is REALLY WRONG!

And, Snow Leopard is just a hope for me until it will be released; then, I will have to give money to get it ;) and hope that they remove all bugs I will discover...

How long does it take to install the 10.5.6 update...?

I left my computer there for 20 minutes and it's still saying preparing installation...like it's frozen..
