Don't know if this will help with mail.app crashing during sync, but...

It appears that trying to sync bookmarks was causing the crash. I went through each item on sync, and only when I tried to sync bookmarks did mail crash.

I've synced twice with bookmarks unchecked, and everything seems okay (I sync with calendars, contacts, keychains, mail accounts, mail rules etc.).

Hope this helps.

FALSE ALARM: just crashed again when I closed Safari.

I got my G5 iMac back just in time to install the update. I don't know if the improvement in performance is related to the 4th new power supply, or the 10.5.6 update. Either way, the computer is running better as a whole, and I haven't noticed any problems with it since I updated.

It helps to start the process and walk away, paying attention only when prompted to make a decision. If you sit there and anxiously watch the process, it tends to make things worse.

To all those out there concerned from the update:

I updated my PowerMac G5 using the auto update (190 MB).
Everything went smoothly, it did a dual reboot and came back.

Before updating, I closed all the apps and did a repair disk permission.
The system does feel a little more snappier, including Safari. I may be imagining though... ;)

All in all, it just worked.

WOW!

Really? This is amazing! I'll love you forever if this can be done. So I have to go out and buy that 8 bucks dongle of sorts? Is that what does the trick?

My installation went without any problems but now the tap to click and two finger tap stops working from time to time. Switching the feature off and then on again seems to fix it.

My iPhone will no longer charge while USB-connected to my 10.5.6 iMac while the iMac is in Sleep mode. It used to before the .6 update. As soon as my iMac goes into Sleep mode, the iPhone stops charging. I woke up this morning to an almost dead iPhone!

Anyone else having this problem? Help!

I installed 10.5.6 and now if I don't touch my Mac Pro for about 5 minutes the mouse will freeze. Only way to get back in control of things is do a keyboard reboot. Apparently I'm not the only one, there is a thread of people on the Apple Discussions :(.

I haven't fully investigated why, but sometime after 10.5.5 Screen Sharing stopped working properly. This update seems to have fixed it for me.

Cheers

I just tried this on my MBP, and it keeps charging mine even on battery power.

Also, to revive a previous question, does anyone know why some of us can't do math in spotlight anymore?? That was seriously one of my favorite features of spotlight, and now it's gone!

It works and it doesn't

Just for the statistics, mixed luck here:
Intel imac (white) 10.5.6 showed up with 190mb: update seems flawless (isight still works, printer works, no problems with mail, no error messages).

MBP: hangs on "configuring installation" as reported all over. Tried twice.
FYI: the file took several attempt to load, with several failures ("timeout"). It finally downloaded a 190mb file as advertised (I checked in /Library/Updates, before deleting it!). I tried rebooting several times at no avail.

Since the system seems happy with the 10.5.5 (and a backup on a new 1TB LaCie) even after the failed attempts, I'll just sit and wait for apple to fix the lemon. I would try with the Combo, but there seem to be other issues apart from the failed installation (i.e. popping sounds, mail quitting etc: just google it!).

I'll just content myself with the success on the imac. And,it is not "snappier": on the iMac it seems EXACTLY as fast/slow as it was. The only difference is the number in "About This Mac"

All of the above just for the record...

Don't feel like reading through the whole 30 pages, but does anyone know if the "Includes fixes for possible graphics distortion issues with certain ATI graphics cards." Gets rid of this?

todd2000, where can I get that background?

It's an OLD wallpaper from digitalblasphemy.com, it was in their free gallery so I guess it's ok to post. Here is the original.

Now to install this update, and see if it fixes my artifacts!

They FINALLY fixed the getting new mail sound! Hallelujah :D

Well after the update now I DON'T get my mail sound anymore. I don't know what happened. It plays if I select it in the mail preferences, but it doesn't actually play when I get mail. What's that all about?

Hmm, it seems cover flow is slower then usual, I dont think this is an update?

And there is one thing that bugs me A LOT!!, its the power source indicator!!!, last time I can easily switch between power profile just by pressing the power indicator and change the profile, now I need to go to energy saver pref to change it. AArgh!!!, what a stupid decision to remove it out, Windows 7 is making things easier and 10.5.6 is making life harder, whats wrong with the old option. I want it back!!!

been using 10.5.6 for a few days now and Safari (while it is snappier) has stopped loading common websites i visit (all legit!!!) properly..

i know some other people have been getting this issue too (with other websites).. so have for the first time set Firefox as my default web browser

Have you tried resettings all settings in Safari? If not, give that a try.

Battery Plan

After I downloaded the new update 10.5.6 I cant find how to adjust the battery plan I like (for example; better battery life, better performance, or custom), instead I have to adjust it from system preferences.

I'm sorry to say that all was OK until.. I updated to 10.5.6 two days ago.. and my external 1T Seagate Freeagent Desktop for Mac stopped mounting on Firewire.
It will mount on USB, it will mount on FW when Mac is restarted, but will not when you boot up after your system was shut down.
I tried to reformat, repair the disk, repair permissions and nothing worked.

Somebody posted that you should disconnect your Firewire stuff before OS update? Is this correct?

Can anyone please suggest anything as I don't want to end up having this HD hooked with USB...

Alternatively how can I revert to the OS before the update? Is restoring from Time Machine the only solution?

Safari does seem snappier and I'm not just continuing off this tradition - OS X in general seems a bit snappier.

Of course it does. Everyone always says this right after a major update. You just restarted after a couple weeks of having the thing on. It'll slow down. (realistic, not pessimistic)

10.5.6 is greattt!!

WOOW! I just installed 10.5.6 after a few days of waiting and seeing how it worked for some people. I took the plunge and I couldn't be happier! I've been having a problem connecting to my roommate's WiFi but after the update, I got connected instantly! I guess it fixed my 2.4 aluminum macbook's AirPort. :-D I'm so happy!
