It's an OLD wallpaper from digitalblasphemy.com, it was in their free gallery so I guess it's ok to post. Here is the original.

Now to install this update, and see if it fixes my artifacts!

Thanks, and hope the update fixes that problem.

And there is one thing that bugs me A LOT!!, its the power source indicator!!!, last time I can easily switch between power profile just by pressing the power indicator and change the profile, now I need to go to energy saver pref to change it.

For those who know OS X internals well, I guess the hint to figuring out a possible solution to this problem would be to look at

/System/Library/CoreServices/Menu\ Extras/Battery.menu

The version number is 1.7 listed there but wasn't updated in the Get Info string and reads 1.6. So if anyone has version 1.6, we could try it out to see if it breaks anything else (which it could, so back stuff up if you're going to play with it, as always). The bundle ID is com.apple.menuextra.battery, with no defaults currently set.

The package contents, etc. might be able to give us something, perhaps? Comparisons to old systems, etc.? Or maybe the old switcheroo? Or what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

EDIT: My Late 08 MBP does not have those power menu options either.
2nd EDIT: My MBP 3,1 is running 10.5.6 (9G55) and running the Battery.menu 1.6.

I vaguely recall seeing this option to quickly change profiles in the past, but not in a long time (since I don't actually use it). Is there anything special I had to do to enable it, or was it always part of this menu extra?

Intel MacBook WiFi better?

Hi Folks who have installed the update and have intel based MacBooks: :)

I've read the thread and there are a couple of people who think this update fixes the problems with Airport dropouts and failed connections when waking from sleep that some have reported with Intel based MacBooks. Has this been the case (or not!) for other who had this problem pre-update?

[I have a white plastic Intel MacBook still on 10.4 due to this problem, its a living room computer, all it does is web-browsing, email, and download stuff. I'd like to move it to 10.5 but not until I'm SURE its not going to degrade its internet functionality]

Thanks in advance, Stephen

Well this update has totally trashed my iMacs' wifi. It's doing my head in no end and I don't know what to do. Some sites don't even load up images and will show up the blue question marks but others are ok.

Also when i try to download movie trailers from within front row its as slow as hell and I am on the best speed in my area which is 8mb ADSL.

I'm in a rural part of the UK. I'm really tired of it and need that speed I had before because as I said, I'm not impressed.

FWIW, I have the AEBS set in n-only mode so it should be superb.

I ran the combo updater for 10.5.6 (on the machine in my sig) after having read a few of the issues with using Software Update and I've had no issues. The loss of the battery meter's quick power scheme changes isn't a huge deal to me since I usually leave mine on the "Better Performance" setting, even on battery.

For the sake of comparison, my fiance ran the 10.5.6 upgrade via Software Update and had no issues on her black MacBook, so it appears not all users are having issues.

I've installed the 10.5.6 update from the Software Update window on my 2.4GHz Aluminum Macbook with 4GB.

FWIW, the wireless issues I was having seem to be fixed though I cannot be 100% sure. When I wake up the machine it seems to connect to the wireless much more quickly than in the past. Also, I was having problems with several networks (United's open tmobile network, the network at my CA office, etc.) and it seems to be able to connect much better.

I was not having the dropout problem so I cannot comment on that.

Well seeing as I was at work today, and have got back now, my wireless issues seem to have sorted itself out so I'll retract my earlier statement - for now!

It was terrible last night, apart from Google which is hardly a huge surprise.

Don't feel like reading through the whole 30 pages, but does anyone know if the "Includes fixes for possible graphics distortion issues with certain ATI graphics cards." Gets rid of this?

I can confirm they fixed the G5/ATI X1900 bug that video played in green & pink since 10.5.5.

bluetooth issues

My Kensington Bluetooth mouse (Si670m) is pretty much worthless now. The 10.5.6 update went on without a hitch yesterday morning and my mouse was working fine, then about 4 hours later the mouse quit working. Went into the Bluetooth menu in System Preferences and when I exited, the Blutooth app froze. Could not force quit. Tried to restart the system and it would not shutdown. Had to force power off. Rebooted and the same thing happened last night. Booted up this morning and the mouse was good for about 4 hours, the the same thing ... mouse quits, bluetooth menus hang, system cannot be shutdown. What a pain in the a**. I guess I'm gonna buy a USB mouse tonight so I can get some measure of reliability.

Graphics Glitch in Finder

Since the update I get a corrupted looking folder icon for a second while it is dropped. I don't use animate snap to grid. When moving files/folders on the desktop everything is fine. Anyone know how to fix this? Is it a graphics card issue or some messed up preference file?. I'm on a late 2007 MBP; does anyone else have this problem?

I installed 10.5.6 last night, and since then, every time I get an e-mail with an attachment and try to open it, it fails and blows up MacMail. I get the standard "would you like to report this incident?", and I do, but it's happened, oh, a dozen times since this morning.

I need those attachments.

I originally thought it was a virus, but now I'm not so sure, especially since some of the e-mails were from trusted sources. Anyone have any ideas? Anyone experienced anything similar?

Yeah I have the exact same problem, just updated from 10.5.5. No problems prior to this update. This seems like a serious bug, and after looking around it looks like it's happening to a lot of people. I hope they can fix this quickly.

I should note also that my "new mail" sound still doesn't work after this update.

Dreaded blue screen after update on my 2.4 iMac

I'm posting this from my hacked eeepc running 10.5.2. So now what? Do I have to safe boot from the OEM install disk? I tried holding down the F8 key to get into the boot directory, but that did nothing.

By the way, I used the auto-update. So how do I get in, roll back and redo it?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Safari doesn't remember or recall any passwords after the update. Highly annoying...

Their is something wrong with the update. Safari is having trouble loading certain sites and the image section of google/yahoo. I also got a double restart!

Tried restarting Safari?

Double restarts always happen during an OS X update (as if it is clearing the PRAM contents or something..).

My take on 10.5.6

I've been reading this post from page 1 to 31 from the first day it started... Here's my take on the latest apple update.

I updated 2 machines... MacBook (1,1 - first gen) and Early '08 MacBook Pro (2.5 Ghz, 4GB RAM, 10.5.5).

I was on page 23 of this post when I just went ahead with the update. I ran software update to see which version of of the update it would download and it was telling me it will download 377 MB version of the download. On the MB i downloaded via software update but on the MBP i did it via apple.com/download to see if there's any difference.

It downloaded around 2MB/sec via website and software update. Installation took on both machines about 2-5 mins? It didn't take long. No hiccups. Did the double restart... didn't take long. no error messages.

Things I noticed from the start:

1) yea... they took away our "better perf, most battery, etc." option out of the menu bar on the battery icon... that sucks... that means i have to go into system pref everytime i want to change it. apple should've left it there but i guess they removed it prob because of the new macbooks (alum).

2) under 10.5.5 on the mbp... while playing 1080p of 2010 from the apple trailers website via quicktime... the max frame rate was 24... but while playing with intense scenes... the frame rate would drop to 9-10... really choppy... but now.. after the 10.5.6... open the same trailer (2010)... frame rate is consistent 23-24.. excellent... they did really improve graphics.. Also ran CoD4.... didn't notice THAT MUCH improvement... but seemed a bit smoother... anyway... 1080p plays NICELY NOW. i didn't test any of this on the first gen macbook. only mbp.

3) apple's notes said they improved AFP transfer... I have a 2TB ready nas duo system on a DIR 655 router running gigabit (cat5e cables)... ran some file copies over the mbp and the NAS. Didn't see any significant changes in the file transfer speeds (10-14 mbs) uploading to the NAS drive.

4) safari did seem snappier... page load seems better (but that could PROBABLY BE due to my recent upgrade to verizon fios network, heheheh)... but java? felt sluggish as usual.. The ready nas duo management software uses java.. so i just loaded that... seemed slow as usual.

5) .. couldn't test out chess because i sux at it.

6) for some reason... Date & Time setting.. i always leave it to sync with apple time servers but seems like everytime i restart the machine the box gets unchecked... odd

7) i'm glad they finally gave trackpad it's own panel... it deserved it

8) i know this is kinda small and useless.. but i do love that new energy panel icon on the alum macbooks.. why can't apple be so kind to make it uniform and give us early 08 mbp users the same icon! hehe

that was about it.... i didn't do any testing on the macbook... this was all on the macbook pro.

good job apple~

Loaded the day after it came out

Now everytime I put up for the first time in a day, my system is slow and beachballing for 2 minutes after it displays my desktop background. What is up with that? I never had a complaint since I bought this machine in April.

*Well, least it is still faster booting up than Windows

Did you do the combo update? Do you have any third-party stuff that loads at startup? Did this never happen before the update?

FYI do yourself a favor and spend 39.99 for 4GB of RAM at Newegg (free shipping).

agree - why??!! this is not great. what a basic error to get happen.

I also get the that i cant click the Apple Menu, App Name, File and sometimes Edit on the Menubar. I have to click the one that will 'click' and then slide the cursor over to the others and then the the menu will show *sigh*

hope they fix it soon or do i need to apply the combo update or something?

2007 alu iMac updated with the Software Update option.
after reading all the concerns, I checked the filesize before committing, seeing a healthy 190mb, I went ahead.
All AOK. safari really snappy - wow! like an earlier poster, i think itunes cover-flow is much better now (I have 120gb media) also stacks in grid view are smoother visualising.

Only played a few games, and already sense better smoothness, especially with AA and AF enabled.

w00t!

Oh you could be right? more ram would be nice (only got 2gb now). but no seriously, I have not loaded anything new since the update.

Yes, I am really pushing the envelope on my machine, but up through 10.5.5 no problems (this includes all the updates since April). 10.5.6 well. I do not do any hacks, tweaks, etc. i do have a lot of apps, but only a couple run at start up (busy mac, sync man, myday). My dock 58 icons on it, but that was that way before the update. Its just something in the update during startup. otherwise my machine runs fne.

And and it was not the combo update. Just one that comes through software updates and it was 191mb. Did not even do the double reboot thing. I mean it is a 2.4 intel core duo with 2gb ram 667 mhz DDR2 SDRAM

Downloaded 10.5.6 and my Macbook has been terribly slow doing everything just about. Can I go back to the older version? I'm also getting some weird todo.mbox folder in my Mail app that I can't delete no matter what I do.
