They fixed the calculator! :D

Finally, I do not have to start Maple to compute 7.5 * 2 which was 14 in Calculator during Leopard till now. :)

Since your computer HASN'T restarted, and I had the same thing, I killed it by power switch (NOT RECOMMENDED), and notice that the pkg file downloaded by software update (in /Library/updates) was only 20 or 30 MB big (depending on the downlaod - I tried twice already), not the 190 MB it was supposed to be.

IF you choose to kill it (don't blame me), then check in there to see if you have a partial download.

Did you do this? And what happened with your stuff? I'm suspecting partial download.

wow... that must have been so much work for you

Not as much work as it would have taken you to read ANY of these posts in this thread, about your question that was answered before you got all pissy and started throwing a temper tantrum.
EDIT: Seems like the mods agree

No new Energy Saver icon :(!!!

AppleMatt

Well yes and no, the new MacBooks have it. I was more joking because a lot of people made a lot of fuss over what essentially is one tiny picture.

Someone just above you said no, it is not. https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/6764383/

The bulb icon is a flurcent bulb instead of the old-fashioned ones.

Actually it is fluorescent now in contrast to incandescent as it used to be. :)

I'm still seeing the old incandescent light bulb in my system preferences.

Has anybody's icon changed? Or is the new icon only on the new laptops?

I believe only the unibodies have the new light bulbs.

190 mo on late powerbook 17, download was fast but the install took long...

BUT now, my PB don't want to wake up after sleep  ... ... ...
(thats no good)

About the trackpad prefpane, everything needed for the gesture is in the "contents" but I noticed 2 things:

in the Info.plist theres the vendorID (under NSPrefPaneIOServiceAttributesToMatch) mine is 1452,
and in version.plist, ProjectName is KeyboardPref.

So I had to download the Update Package from Apple's support page. I tried with software update twice but kept hanging at the Configuring Installation page and force rebooted via Terminal. Oh well works now, but that was a first.

That's what I love about Time Machine...unless I've made any important changes recently, I don't have to backup before an update, because I'll already HAVE a backup from within the last hour!

Personally, I don't understand why people modify TM to not back up so often. Hourly backups usually tend to not be too big, and I never see any performance hits while it's running. I guess maybe if you're backing up wirelessly, when backups might take longer. But at the same time, the less often you back up, the bigger the backups are gonna need to be when you do. I dunno, I just prefer it the way it is.
I use a wireless backup over the network and I do see some slowness in loading pages when there is a backup going on, my backups only take about 10-15 minutes.

I am currently stuck at "Configuring Installation" also. I have a penryn MBP and have never had problems installing updates before. Any recommendations on what I should do? It's been like this for over half an hour with no progress.

Did anyone notice the blurry effect on Exposé? All the windows are now less clear. I thought I was tired, but no, it must be the update. I don't like it actually, it costs more concentration.

Yes, I killed it (I never had the restart - it just hung on configuring install - I have been tracking your progress through this thread, offering what has happened to me). My download was only 20MB the first time, and 30MB the second, even though software updater thought it was complete. I'm going to to try the combo updater to be safe. Scary to know software updater can mess it up. (I will also try software updater one last time to see what it downloads, but I won't use it to install).

Ha ha ha, I don't know why, i was trying to say how nice you guys are and how helpful you are.

It's kinda true though, I can't say why, but like someone said earlier, we seem to crowd around these forums at update time like a campfire. I think it's funny :p

How can I force reboot in the terminal while at the hanging configuring installation screen? Thanks!

My Exposé windows have always gotten a little blurry. Maybe you just didn't notice it before?

Thanks, I'm going to see if I can find out how to reboot in the terminal on this installation screen first, then I'll do that.

When in Finder, I can't increase/decrease the icon size by pinching now :( why??

Whoa, I never knew you could do that, since my MacBook's too old. I'm guessing if they removed it, they did it cuz people were doing it by accident, and it seems like it could be more confusing than helpful. How often do you want to resize your icons?

This seems to be a common problem - read through the thread. I just tried downloading it for the 3rd time through software update, and this time it's 45 MB (out of 190mb), early 08 penryn MBP. I'd like to know what model people are using who experience this, because maybe the update for this model is having server issues.:
