Well power pc users...

Well power pc users... counting down to Snow Leopard. Enjoy it while it last... I have 3, it was a blast...

My Harley runs snappier :)

3G connections (usb sticks) faster.

3G internet connection seems alot faster now, I don't have AT&T (Canada) we have Rogers - I've got a MC950D 3G usb stick and it's noticeably faster while loading web pages. Nice update.

mine was stuck on the apple logo. the little thing just kept spinning forever

i finally forced restarted it and it effed up my mystem

reinstalling leopard to 10.5.5 now:mad:

thank god for time machine
Mine took about 10 minutes to get off the Apple Screen and now it works. You should of left it alone.

Right. I think something is up with incomplete downloads from Apple's site, mine was obviously small enough to not get through anything important (I hope).

Mind you, I never even installed anything - on restart, it was configuring installation (before it restarts, and it just hung).

Right. So the 20MB downloaded update pkg contained all of my required 190MB of data? And the second time I tried to download, it was only 30MB.

I think there's something screwy here.

Obviously you have a legitimate problem with your pkg (no pun intended :p).

Are you downloading using the software update? Perhaps you should go directly to the Apple site to try to re-download the installer. :)

Ouch! :eek:

That sucks!

Hmm.. maybe I should get a Time Machine drive for christmas.. could be useful :cool:

Yup, using software updater. No idea what the issue is, it just suddenly 'completes download'. I wonder if it's a network thing?

I will try that sooner or later, but I'd like to know that my software updater is trustworthy! Maybe the servers are just getting hit hard.

Awesome, the new MobileMe features work very well. I update an ical event on my Mac and it fires off and syncs with mobileme instantly. I update something on my iPhone and my Mac grabs the changes within seconds.

They really tightened this up and brought it a lot closer to their original "push from everywhere" claims.

FYI, if you want this to work correctly, make sure MobileMe sync is set to "automatically" in the preference pane. Mine was set to every hour after the 10.5.6 update. Not sure if I had already set it to every hour or not.

On which sites? Are they heavily into Javascript? It's possible that Safari could be faster if Apple has updated the javascript engine.

Can you run some javascript benchmarks? Hmm hard to compare though if you've already updated. Pity I'm away from my Mac.

Can someone run SunSpider before and after updating?

Using SunSpider with MBP 2.2, 4GB

Before: 3803.2ms
After: 3445.0ms
Change: 1.10x as fast

Has anybody's icon changed? Or is the new icon only on the new laptops?
The bulb didn't change on my MBP or my MacPro. My bosses' new MB has the new light bulb icon, which is why I know what people are on about. I'm 99% sure that the icon only appears on the new MacBooks. Perhaps its because they're much "greener" than the old ones! :D

Yep, only on my Unibody and not my old MBP.

Watch out after 1.5.6 upgrade if you use File Vault!

After installing 10.5.6, I found after the first reboot that my FileVaulted home folder got mounted as ejectable disk. As a result iTunes would not even start up, complaining that it could not find or create its folder.

Luckily, a second reboot cleared up the confusion. Still, that was a nasty #@%!ng surprise. :confused:

190 MB on Early 2008 17" MBP

My Update is 190 MB on my Early 2008 17" MBP. Seems the sizes are all over the place. I am tempted to update but I need to get some work done and I have to give a presentation with this computer today so I may just wait.

I have waited so long for this.
Life was unbearable without it.
This morning I tried starting the car and was so dispirited I couldn't even turn the key in the ignition...

This afternoon I am suddenly a millionaire, getting laid, and running a titanic corporation!

THANK YOU MAC OSX 10.5.6!!

People, let the installer do its job! DO NOT restart you computer in the middle of the process. Just because the status bar doesn't LOOK like its moving doesn't mean it isn't doing something. Be patient.

Best advice of this thread. Also, back everything up. I know I always back up, test out and then reinstall the whole OS after updates. While reinstall OS X is extreme and not everyone needs to do that, but at least back up!

My report!

Here is my brief report, just updated my Intel iMac 24" to 10.5.6:

- repaired permissions before and after, 190Mb package downloaded in 5 minutes; quick to install, with 2 reboots;

- No issues so far, as usual with Apple updates;

- No new light bulb;

- Improvements in Javascript performance on Safari - with the newest V8 benchmark suite, final score from 234 to 244;

- Some interesting messages on repairing permissions after, though...does anyone have a clue on these new messages?

"2008-12-15 19:52:56 +0100: Warning: SUID file "System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare/afpLoad" has been modified and will not be repaired.
2008-12-15 19:52:56 +0100: Warning: SUID file "usr/bin/setregion" has been modified and will not be repaired.
2008-12-15 19:52:59 +0100: Warning: SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Install.framework/Versions/A/Resources/runner" has been modified and will not be repaired.
2008-12-15 19:53:00 +0100: Warning: SUID file "System/Library/Printers/IOMs/LPRIOM.plugin/Contents/MacOS/LPRIOMHelper" has been modified and will not be repaired."

All in all, just GO FOR IT, guys...and GO APPLE!

Hmmm....

Okay, I havn't done anything out of the normal.

So, here's where I'm at:

1. Ran Software Update, downloaded, then restarted
2. During restart it goes to "Installing 1 item" then errored out on me and rebooted.
3. Went back to Software Updates, went to install 1 item, it restarted and went to the "installing 1 item"
4. Waited about an hour now with "Configuring Installation'" at maybe less than 5% and has done NOTHING

So, some things I noticed:
-It was downloading slowly, then suddenly finished and wasked for restart (partial pckg?)

Any thoughts or ideas?
