Same problem here

I have the same problem. Opening the Bluetooth preferences gets my connection back (MM and wireless keyboard).

I have a unibody MBP (10.5.7) and the new Bluetooth firmware. I just removed BT from my network list. Hope it works (probably not) and hope the new 10.5.8 will fix the problem.

im running tiger 10.4.11. on a macbook. my mac bluetooth keyboard and mouse ALWAYS lose connection. i have a few symptoms. they will both disconnect, sometimes i wil press a key and it just kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkeeps going. during this the mouse willl " lose connection" and drag and stick on the screen. at some times this is quick fixed by pressing the power button on my keyboard, or switching the mouse on and off. it always happens within hours again. a friend i work with has the same mouse and keys, same macbook and running leopard. he gets similar problems but not as often. ive tried mac....nothing. ive read posts on this matter but im not finding enough common symptoms (or at least people may not be documenting them). for apple to say they have never heard of this is absurd. the rep at best buy says people return them constantly (not just for the shady trackball!) for "losing connection" ...ive updated and still nothing.

I finally got round to installing the update last week and have not had a problem with the mouse dropping out yet.. Have I spoken to soon...

hey, thank you. i do understand this will be updated but i have to stay at 10.4.11 tiger on this mac due to my recording setup compatibilty and smooth runnings. will an update sent out with 10.5.8 you speak of help my situation? thanks again.

I got the BT firmware update this morning. I've retrieved the Might Mouse from the desk drawer to see if it will now maintains a connection.

Until now I'd given up and used my old wireless mouse.

Let's try and keep this thread specific to the problem.

While there is no doubt that you can have many different bluetooth issues, this issue is specifically about...

- Loosing bluetooth functionality without the OS reporting such.
- It affects multiple bluetooth devices (not just the MM) at the same time.
- Bluetooth peripheral functionality is restored by either disconnecting then reconnecting your bluetooth device/s or by simply opening "Bluetooth Preferences".
- Has only been an issue since 10.5.7 (for me anyway).
- Exactly the same problem with 2 x MacBook Pro's.
- The latest Bluetooth firmware update (2.0?) didn't fix the problem

Question:

Is anyone having this EXACT problem on anything other than a MacBook Pro?

I have a unibody Macbook with this EXACT problem.

yup - same problem here - thought it might have been the recent bluetooth firmware update rather than 10.5.7?

FWIW, I've had this problem as long as I've had my unibody MacBook Pro, which arrived with 10.5.6 on it.

Since the firmware update I have not experienced any problems with the Mighty Mouse *touch wood*.

10.5.8 didn't fix it for me...

My bt mm drops connection more times than I get to use it... But the connection with my cellphone never drops.

EDIT:
I've just delete and paired the mouse again and now it's working much better, but not yet perfect. I got from losing connection whenever I lifted the mouse to losing connection once each 20min or so.

Well, it looks like 10.5.8 fixed the problem.

I've now had a couple of trouble free weeks.

I haven't "lost" the mouse or keyboard (without receiving a connection lost message) since updating, whereas both used to drop off the face of the earth at least once per day on 10.5.7

I've been having the same problem, since the 10.5.7 upgrade - my bluetooth mighty mouse stops working 2-3 times a day. Weird thing is my bluetooth apple keyboard works fine during such mouse dropouts.

I still haven't figured out if any events cause the mouse to stop working, or if it's plain random. The only way to bring the mouse to work again is by turning my MBP's bluetooth off/on. Batteries are fine btw... has anyone figured this one out?

I have this exact same issue. 2-3 times a day, sometimes 10-12 times a day. Mouse batteries are at full.

When the connection drops, I simply click the mouse a couple of times and it comes back, only to lose the connection again soon.

It's frustrating, especially when you are clicking something and it just hangs.

I'm running a MacBook Pro 15" 2.66 with 10.5.8. The Mighty Mouse also did the exact same thing on my older MacBook Pro 15" 2.0ghz running Tiger and Leopard.

I say it's the mouse, but I don't have another BT mouse to test with.

FWIW, this is the only BT device that drops off. Keyboard, BT headset and PAN for cell phone never drop.

I've tried making the Mighty Mouse a favorite, which was suggested by someone. That curbed it for maybe a day. Then back to connection lost messages popping up.

The resolve to click and have it reconnect is easy, but frustrating none the less.

I haven't had this problem since upgrading to Snow Leopard, so they've probably made some changes to their Bluetooth software along the way.

I won't be going to Snow Leopard for a little while still, so need to find a resolve (or a different mouse) for the time being.

I wonder if the Magic Mouse has this same issue or if it truly is a BT issue related to versions of Mac OS X.

I had problems with my Apple bluetooth keyboard and Logitech bluetooth mouse with pretty much every version of Leopard, so I'm guessing it's a general bluetooth issue, and not specific to any particular mouse.

Gotcha. Good to know. I want to find a good BT mouse solution as I don't care to use one of those USB mice, chewing up a precious USB port on my MacBook Pro.

Sorry I never posted an update. I ended up installing Snow Leopard and haven't had a problem since.
