Prices are ridiculous!!.After adding all extra-cost accessories it will cost as much as a New MacBook.

iPad 512 GB-$949
Apple Pencil-$99
Smart Keyboard-$159
Cover-$49
Total= $1256

Starting at $329 Suddenly! The New 9.7 iPad Feels more value for money.
Ridiculous because why? Because you don't feel like paying that much? Yes, maxing out a top-of-the-line iPad with every accessory will get you to the lower end of the Mac prices. Try maxing out a new Mac: the MacBook gets near $2K, the MBP gets over $4K. You don't need 512 GB, or the Pencil, or the Smart Keyboard, for the iPad Pro to be a really awesome machine. The prices for the 10.5" iPad Pro itself are in the same ballpark as the prices for my iPad Air when it was new, and the iPad Pro is approximately 97 times better.

Sure accessories aren't cheap but you might not need them all. I already have the pencil so thats sorted. I will buy the keyboard as it's needed for 12.9 IMO.

The sleeve though is something I would only buy if i planned to keep this long term. Thats over priced but if it keeps your ipad safe and has a place for your pencil you will use it

THIS! I use my iPad a lot, but it is in conjunction with my Mac and other devices. The whole spectrum of hardware has a use case where a particular one is the best tool for the job.

Exactly. I will still need my iMac for video conversions and Grammarly proof-reading to name but two uses, but I think it's awesome that folks can roll with an iPad & iPhone set up prior to iOS11. Before last week's announcements, I did not feel the iPads worked for me (given their price and my consumption only leanings); but with the advances made to the display, I am super excited to try the Pencil for drawing again and getting some writing/blogging done too. If I can get more use of it, it will be worth it.

I use my 2017 iPad Air daily. It's perfect for surfing, reading books, emails, etc. However, I don't know how anyone could sit in front of it for 8 hours and do excel sheets or some other business task. Your neck would hurt. You need a mouse, full size keyboard and a few monitors for work, imo. Is it a computer? Sure. My phone is a computer. Can it replace a desktop or laptop? Not a chance. If the iPad pro was truly a laptop replacement, apple wouldn't sell laptops. Obviously, they serve different markets.

Does anybody get the don't-buy-now-it-won't-feel-great-until-iOS-11 argument? What is the upside of keep using whatever you currently have (4th gen iPad, iPad Air, Air 2, 9.7" iPad Pro) compared to using the 10.5" iPad with iOS 10 until September? Earning interest for four months on the money not spend until September?

I think what the writer was trying to say was that the 10.5" iPad is pretty good today already, but it'll become even better when iOS 11 comes out.

Indeed. It's like saying a motorcycle is a replacement for a car. Last I checked I couldn't strap a 4x8 sheet of plywood to the top of my motorcycle.

To be a replacement doesn't mean its capabilities must match perfectly, it just means it must be able to accomplish an individual's goal. For many people, a motor cycle is a replacement for a car; if, for example, all they need is a ride to work.

I'm a scientist, and for me, my iPad 12.9 is a replacement; I can use MS Word, Excel, read and mark-up journal articles, and communicate with my colleagues. That's what I need and that's what it does.

This is just a glorified consumption device. Apple likes to add Pro to every thing out there. iPad Pro, ProMotion, MacPro, Final Cut Pro. In fact, their CEO should rename himself to Tim Cook Pro.

But if one still wants to buy it, this 10.5" model seems the right one to replace Air 1 and Air 2. Longevity model.
"Tim Cook Pro" is gorgeous. Made my day, thank you

So to recap...At this point there are still no 12.9 reviews with pics?
From the outside, the new 12.9" shouldn't be any different. It gains P3 colour gamut, True Tone, 120 Hz, better camera and faster processor (A10X vs A9X), probably more RAM as well.

This article is false. The sweet spot is the mini. Sad there is no mini pro...maybe I will have to bite the bullet on the 10.5.

Also, given that human eyes refresh much slower than 120 mHz I wonder how they detect the visual changes?

Pre-ordered mine (12.9, 512GB) through ATT since I can finance it (ATT Next). Should get it at month's end. Can't wait!
yea just did the same - a real no brainer if you are able to get it with zero interest - I just sold mine 12.9 and got $460 for it which makes the upgrade easy to do.

It's much easier to manage an iPhoto library with RAW on a Mac than an iPad. This guy is emotional with his stance, which really doesn't help credibility. Sorry, but it can't compete with MacOS.

That's very weird they didn't include 3D touch. Why are product features now so fragmented and inconsistent across the lineup? This is a feature introduced on the iPhone 6S, I would have expected this to be included, especially in a new flagship device, especially in a device that so much focuses on functionality. I'm looking into buying the new iPad Pro with a Pencil, which I probably will, and lack of the 3D touch won't make it a no-buy for me, but it is also a first downturn for me.

They made the keyboard so flimsy that 3D touching the screen would knock it over.

Looks like a crazy awesome device. I've been on the Air 2 and I was blown away by that device. I can't wait to get my hands on this new one. Great for watching video and reading. I have a Mac for coding, but I love the iPad for most everything else.

Not worth it. Why increase the screen size knowing the Microsoft Office Licence:

Microsoft: Office will be free for devices under 10 inches

Let's not kid outselves this thing should cost $599 with both keyboard and pencil to make someone use it as a "computer"

At the price point they have it right not I see no benefits over desktop operating systems either Mac or Windows and its full featured apps. For a full blown computer iPads software is the weakest link.

Apple are a bunch of pretentious idiots... so us developers can now develop on your "full-fledged computer"? Hmmm, I don't see the X-Code app icon.
BTW, I ordered the new iPad as a nice consumption device, not a replacement for my laptop.

Most people don’t develop apps.

I would argue users needing a file look up will have additional problems. Its a step in the right direction.
Uncertain how the dock helps anyone, but whatever.
File management is one of the core features of any real operating system.look at Mac OS,Windows,Android,Linux..it is absolutely important for true productivity and using the device beyond dumbed down consumption use.
That's iOS biggest criticism for anything beyong casual, consumption use.
So glad Apple realised that and enabled it.

TechCrunch ultimately concluded that, with the debut of the 10.5-inch iPad Pro, "the iPad is a full-fledged computer."

I'd rather type a paper on a 5 year old macbook air than a new ipad pro (Trackpad, ergonomics, etc.) Great netflix machine though.

The problem is traditional PC-type computers increasing have touch screens these days.

Microsoft has chosen its direction and niche and Apple has chosen a different one.

What Apple has done is build hardware, develop and mature their OS and they are getting ever-closer to having a highly-functional touch-based pro device built for the purpose of being a touch device, rather than an after-the-fact kludge built to be a solution for a problem that didn't exist.

Those that will need iPad Pros will get them. Those that need MacBooks or MacBook Pros will get those.

I agree with you, the only reason I dont own an iPad at this moment is because I cant use a Mouse. This cant be fully considered as a computer and less than a Pro device if I dont have a mouse where i can use it as Pro entire day. With iOS 11 this got closer, but still no mouse. Just imagine, what you can do with a mouse inside of a Pro apps like Office, iMovie, Photoshop etc... will be awesome. Personally i use a lot citrix to connect to my computer workstations. They invented a Citrix mouse that can work inside this app, thats huge. Other Apps can do the same. Its called Citrix x1 mouse

When the Mac came out in the 80's, people like you said that It wasn't a real computer because it had a mouse and no command line. Now it's not a computer because it doesn't have a mouse. Great.
