10.6 Snow Leopard PowerPC Development

I just tried loading up 10.6.8 PPC on my G5 dual, and it seems pretty snappy, unfortuantley I can't get any of the remote access features to work correctly which is how I primarily use my PowerMac. Incoming ping requests seem to work fine, but the G5 doesn't seem to be responding on other ports. Do you have any pointers @barracuda156 ?

Admittedly there are some issues with networking, but it depends on what exactly you need.

SSH to the machine should work, I did that for the fact from remote Linux box (I think without any specific tweaks). gsocket works from any system (other macOS, Linux, iPhone with iSH are tested).
Local networking is semi-broken for me, though I was able to fix accessing 10.6.8 machine from a Catalina MacMini, now it works normally in a Finder. Reverse (from PowerMac to MacMini works, but I think via nfs).

What is exactly the issue you face now?

I set a static IP address on the built-in ethernet card which matches the configuration for my network. I am able to ping local devices and ping works with external addresses via DNS lookups (google.com) . Ping also works coming in, so I think ICMP is fine. That said, no other traffic is flowing. I've tried to ssh into the device (using the built-in ssh server), tried using vnc as wel (also using the built-in ssh server), then I tried using PowerFox (which I installed on Leopard) to attempt to browse the powerpc-ports collcetion but that failed as well. I have the pci-e G5 so I think it's one of the last models.

DHCP does not work properly still, I guess. Can you boot into any other macOS from the same machine and note what System Preferences has in Network? Then set up DHCP manually using the same in 10.6.8. That should fix normal internet (UPD should work on 10.6.8 A5, if you use another, older image then run `utdns` to enable UDP over TCP, it was discussed earlier, `utdns` does not need any ports to be installed).
Remaining issue in 10.6.8 A5 is local access over network, Finder won’t see the machine. That is fixable, I can attach notes from Claude which I used earlier (nothing is needed to be compiled/installed, it was purely configuration matter).

Thanks, yes I have 3 OSes installed now (10.4/10.5/10.6). I have already configured the static IP address the same way the DHCP is configured on my other install. For SSH do I need to use the ports version of openssh? I have not even tried archaic openssh included in the OS, I guess. openssh builds trivially from the port and works fine.

I DMed, yeah. Discord is not too convenient since I use it once in a blue moon, but something like Jabber (if you need communication to work from a PowerPC machine, Jabber works there, and of course on macOS/iOS/Linux) or some other messenger will do. Or, obviously, GitHub/Codeberg, for anything okay to be a publicly visible discussion.

That world be awesome! I cannot access any Share, neither AFP, SMB, CIFS are working. Had Claude any anwers?

@saxfun @danifunker I just leave this here with everything from that old session. Note, I have no idea if all of this works. I only set up nfs, and that happened to fix mounting in Finder as a consequence. (I will interested to know what you used and if it worked.)
