I believe they take back the stock and use them for customer and warranty replacements that you get from the Apple Store.
Ah geez... was this the version that's geared towards a media player? If so, I already have an Ipod Classic for that. For the IpT6, I'd like a 4.7" or 5.5" screen, and internals to enable it to keep up with the joneses.I *hope* they bring out a 250g flash version of the Touch.
But who knows.
To the one that asked, stores sell out of what they have. Sometime the Target stores will do promo gift cards to help them sell out of them. Although I think my local Target still has a 1st gen iPad.![]()
The classic iPods were fabulous devices but even the newest are getting a little old and the drives are no longer replaceable new AFAIK. I mega-capacity Touch would be a great replacement, but I doubt we'll see it.![]()
Towards its end, they had a deal where you could buy all of the games for it for $50 or something (an overall savings of just over $5). I tried some of them at an Apple store. They weren't half bad.Replacing an iPod Classic hard drive? Last I hear, yes, they are 'no longer'. Part of the reason, according to rumours, that Apple killed the 'Classic' is because of the unavailability of the drives. Why they didn't just swap the drive for flash and call it the 'Classic ][' is beyond me, but I would wager it's because it doesn't have 'apps'. Although I do remember their attempt to have people develop 'apps' for the click wheel interface. Not thinking that ended well.
Still, a killer 'fat Touch' would be a HUGE seller for that niche market of people that have to carry their entire music collection when they travel, and I'm not making fun of that. I still have my Classic, and it has *most* of my collection, including a few 'books on tape'. You never know when the mood will strike you. STP has gotten me through quite a few frustrating flying experiences.
But how big is too big? 256g? 512g?
I am guessing that they will simply leave the touch as-is and discontinue it eventually due to old hardware. There is also the possibility they will leave it till September and update it then. I can also see the iPod line shrinking down to 1-2 models or being discontinued entirely. I don't think we will see the word iPod mentioned at this event though.

My credit card is ready and will not be restrained.
That's not always the case. When Apple discontinued the iPod Classic, they immediately pulled existing units from retail outlets the day that the announcement was made.It just means that the Apple store will no longer sell them. Non-Apple stores sell the discontinued items until there are no more available.

There were some who were fortunate enough to hit up stores that were a little slow in responding.
How does this work... retail stores like Best Buy gets a "decree" from Apple to remove their stock of the Ipod Classics, and they either comply, or perhaps face penalties if caught?

5 bucks says the word 'iPod' isn't mentioned ONCE.
This either confirms there's new iPods or confirms the iPod line-up is deadIn my local department store today: all iPods (all ranges) pulled from the shelves.
Stock returned to Apple. Not expecting any replacements.![]()

At this point I think it is a 50/50 possibility. Especially Apple could push the aWatch as a replacement for the Nano and Shuffle. This either confirms there's new iPods or confirms the iPod line-up is dead
"bad" is a relative term. If I recall correctly, iPods (all of them) don't appear as a separate line item in the company's annual report.Headline: Apple discontinues the Nano, Shuffle, and Ipod Touch all in one fell swoop, impossible, sales can't be that bad.

Agreed. I think Apple will quietly phase out the iPod touch lineup.
Totally agree. I'd buy a 128 or 256 gb flash-based Classic, definitely.

Weren't iPods updated around September? Also, WWDC is in June and there we'll hear final word on supported devices.
So my guess is iPods won't be even mentioned on Monday.
