In my local department store today: all iPods (all ranges) pulled from the shelves.
Stock returned to Apple. Not expecting any replacements.![]()
With iPod touches 1-3, Apple released them yearly and with the same hardware as the iPhone.
Apple changed tactics starting with the iPod touch 4, selling them with inferior processors and not updating them every year.
If an iPod touch 6G is hypothetically released, i bet it would be with the hardware from a 5S with a 4.7" screen.
They also kept the same, nicer screen from the Iph5, instead of some inferior screen just for the IpT. Industry is wondering why they didn't do this this sooner, as this way, a single supply line is able to serve both product lines. With the 5G they followed the same strategy but a year late. It has the same hardware than the 5th generation iPhone, i.e, the iPhone 4S but they added the retina display from the iPhone 5.
My IpT5 which I got back around Aug. 2013 is both young and old at the same time. Nowadays, I use it for some gaming and the battery goes down a very visible chunk. In the past, it wouldn't even make a dent. All things equal since wifi has been constantly on.Why do the good die young?
Well, that's not entirely true. The processor clocks were always slower and they had less RAM. Less capabilities and worse screens.
No, with the 4G they followed the same strategy, the hardware from an iPhone 4 but less RAM and slower processor clock.

I still maintain that Apple wants more devices to work with the Apple Watch and not less so I hope they announce a new Ipod Touch that works with the Watch.
We haven't seen any part leaks at all - so I doubt it... unless they stick an A6 or A7 in the current body of the iPod Touch 5 but that sounds a little unlikely... although they did that with the iPod Touch 2nd to 3rd gen...
I would purchase the current Touch 5 with an A7 in it.
Well, my prediction was wrong.
It now looks like the Touch 5 will run IOS 9 along with the other A5 devices but we will not know for sure until June.
In any case, the next important date is in September.

I seriously doubt that iPod touch customers are going to become Apple watch customers... This is a non issue
