Looks like 17 Pro Max will be a significant update with smaller dynamic island, much better front and rear/main cameras

As long as my 13 Pro Max lasts longer than a day on its battery, that’s the only reason I need to “wait” for the iPhone 18 or 19 or whatever.

Same, except not Max. I'm going to see if I can hold out until they get rid of the screen cutout entirely. It's gotten worse every year since the 13 Pro. It just keeps going further and further down into the display.
This is why I have held onto my 13PM so tightly: that Dynamic Island gimmick is so intrusive and makes watching videos impossible. All I wanted was for them to reduce the notch by another 25-33%, but they went with the Dynamic Island. That’s why I’m holding onto this device as long as possible. Plus, I really need more RAM.
I am on 12 mini. Will wait for the next mini iPhone even if it is iP20. And yes, it will be coming at some point. Why? - because Apple will continue to "innovate".
You’re unlikely to ever see another Mini. The sales were abysmal.
Ditch the dynamic island already. A pinhole is 10x better.
They should have never implemented it to begin with.

Some of the reasons people give for waiting seem rather minuscule in terms of importance in my opinion. A smaller Dynamic Island? So what? Any reflection screen? Does that matter with a screen protector? Better cameras? Every year there is a better camera.

There’s no right of wrong answer, just get the device that suits but every year there is a better phone, it just depends if you need or fancy a new phone at any point in time

The only thing excites me is a foldable phone.
My Iphone 13 mini, does everything i need to do.

I dont do social media/gaming. I make quick pics for whatsapp/ QRcode scanning.

the standard slab phone no longer tickle my consumerism to upgrade.
My next phone probably will be a Samsung Android flipphone in a couple of years, DEX is also a big motivator that peaks my interest.

Someone ran AI over bullet points, right? Still some training to do, too much adverbs, may-or-may-not fuzz etc.
e.g. this sentence screams AI:
The upgraded resolution to 24 megapixels on the ‌iPhone‌ 17 will allow photos to maintain their quality even when cropped or zoomed in, while the larger number of pixels will capture finer details.
Glad to help

Just got a new screen and battery for my trusty iPhone 11! I'm using this thing until it gives up on me

I though Ross Young or someone else said that under-display Face ID was delayed until the iPhone 18?
He did, this article was probably written months ago and pumped out to break up the lack of anything interesting with the new iPads except "they're thin".

Maybe if Apple didn't spend years working on a failed headset and dead car, they might have got under display Face ID and cameras much sooner.

expect the iPhone 17 to feature another button to cover the fact it has nothing else to offer.

"Under-Display Face ID"

I believe this as much as I believe the old rumors (and there were SO MANY of them) about under-display touch-ID.

Sure Jan.

That said, my 13pro was replaced by apple care just before the current phones were released and its still showing 100% battery capacity. I have upgraded every other year, like clockwork, but decided to skip the 15. If this battery holds out, I may skip the 16 too.

It all depends on AI features for me. My 13 Pro still has 95% max battery. If iOS 18/iPhone 16 Pro AI features are meh compared to OpenAI/Anthropic/llama3 apps, then I will probably hold off until iPhone 17.
95%? Wow. My 15 Pro Max, delivered on release day, is already at 96%

Apple develops a lot of things even with a small market, but they do not usually update them as often. They should have been aware of that when they made both the 12- and 13 mini. They will probably update the mini-lineup right before the 12-mini loses support, update then :D
I'm thinking the same. They will keep on giving small phones every 4-5 years like they have done with SE ->12/13mini lineup.

I won't be buying these huge phones, not because I cannot use them, but because I don't like using big phones. It's not my jam, never has been, never will.

Everything sounds good liking the larger screen size and more memory are selling points to me but could Care less about under screen face id

That's gonna be interesting. Looking forward to seeing what the iphone 17 has to offer since I have the 15 now and I'm on a 2 year contract cycle.

These specs sound iterative to the iPhone 15 Pro line, and they’re going to be on the iPhone 17 line?

Sheesh. I remember when Apple used to innovate. Now they’re just coasting along on mediocrity.

Just replaced the battery (and sadly the screen) of my 12 Mini. If the screens keep getting bigger, that's more incentive to buy now. Not really interested in phones that could be tablets.

Well, I just went for a 15 pro max for such a good deal, so I'll keep that for a few years, by which time the iPhone of the future will be so fast, I'll be able to go back in time to change my mind!

I’m already on 14 pro I can wait another year or so if not till the 18 comes out and hopefully no notch at all.

How much did that cost you? The price for a used, 128 GB iPhone 12 (a significant upgrade over the 11) is ~$200.

where I am a used 12 is around 300 euro! Since I have a 256gb 11 I decided to keep it, plus it was only 140 euro for the screen and battery
