The moment a new iPhone gatekeeps something like Dex/proper Stage Manager for an external monitor, count me in. I understand that they don't want me to be productive via my iPhone, but it's 2026. It's the thing I've been wanting the most. Until then, I'll be sticking with this iPhone 17 Pro Max.

And the majority of us don't give a ****, and absolutely hate it...

It's impossible to not see/feel the 17 Pro as a major regression in terms of build quality and materials. Because it is.

Update: the irony of a curmudgeon disagreeing with this comment is not lost of me 😂

I am about to buy a 17 Pro. i finally got my hands on one and was impressed. I am still using my 13 Pro. Can you say how this regression feels to you (who cares what it looks like) or how it affects it's performance or possible shelf-life?

I don't get your logic. If a new phone is not better than your current phone, you're not losing out. That doesn't suck for you. You should be happy. Seeing it as being "stuck with" something that is fully functional and not significantly worse than a newer model doesn't make sense.

You don't have to spend your money. That's a win.
Yes, but I'm an Apple gadget guy and CONSUMERISM!

When the iPhone starts to slow down, I tend to notice it and I suspect that will happen with the new iOS. Although I am starting to adjust a bit. For example, not going to pre-order this year at all and will wait until early 2027 at least before making a decision. That's a first for me.

At this point I upgrade every 3 years going back to the 6, but nothing is yet wrong with my 15 Pro Max. So you're right, this is a win.

Honestly, if you feel your phone is slowing down - back up all your data, do a factory reset on the phone, and then reinstall / copy back over only the files and apps you really use. It can make a significant difference to the performance of the device.

I'm not being salty, but you'd be surprised how few people actually do this, and just buy a new device instead.

It's a bit like people going out and buying a new pair of AirPods, because they feel that the sound is degrading and so the hardware is failing, when just giving them a proper deep clean and removing all the gunk blocking the speakers and mics can solve the problem the majority of the time.

I get it a lot of people won't even think or care about the extra thickness or weight, but I don't want that. I'm thinking about hanging out with my 16PM for another year, or defect to the dark side?

I’m not sure why Apple believes it’s a good idea to make the Pro models thicker and heavier with every new release.
They don’t believe it is, but they may have no choice as they add new/larger components such as a new camera system and/or battery. They went from titanium to aluminum to keep the weight in check for the 17 Pro/17 Pro Max. Maybe eventually they’ll reduce the weight again, but it probably won’t be easy. The iPhone Air 2 will probably gain a few grams. If you want a more capable camera, that’s the cost.

Well said. My simple observation, this board has become overrun with negativity/complaining...and most of the time its the same people complaining about anything and everything Apple does.

Yes the mods should ban negging more than they do opining but what can ya do. Don’t let it get to you, blood. Remember you can always close the tab and open another, or open the door and walk outside.

The fact that its the same physical design yet again (since the 12) with just a spec bump, I honestly don't see any reason why anybody buys this except for people that actually need a phone (really old or broken phone).
