So still no real reason for me to upgrade from my 2018 11“ iPad Pro, this was really ahead of its time (in terms of hardware) ??
That has been my thought as well. When I got it I was blown away and still to this day there hasn't been any reason to upgrade. The newest 11" pro wouldn't do anything to improve the way I use it.

Well what really would be the selling point then?

It already has desktop class processor and ram.

If the proposed rationale is accurate then it seems like Apple just want to push users to the presumably more profitable 12.9” at the expense of the user experience for the 11” plebeians. Just as likely it’s due to parts availability, but Apple is increasingly user hostile these days so nothing would surprise me. Either way the joke’s on them because I have zero plans to upgrade my 2018 11” Pro until there’s a major change in display technology. And even then I’d wait a year to ensure there are no longevity issues. Been burned too many times by bad displays in Apple devices that have failed or degraded over time.

Looks like my iPad Pro 11 2018 will be good for another year.
Same here except that mine seems to have about 128Kb of RAM and is forever reloading apps and tabs if I leave it alone for more than ten seconds. Probably just poor memory management in iPadOS 15 but I have to say it feels a bit hobbled in terms of multitasking fluidity. I don’t ever consider leaving a half-watched video open in an inactive Safari tab without first taking a mental note of the timestamp and hoping for the best ?

Well, that’s no fun. I’m still rocking my 2018 12.9”. Still feels like such an incredible device, though I was hoping for an updated 11” to switch to this year.

I’m stating to wonder (like others in this thread have), if the 11” Pro days are numbered and its place taken by the Air.

The updated 11-inch iPad Pro expected to launch sometime this year can no longer be expected to feature a mini-LED display like its larger 12.9-inch sibling, display analyst Ross Young said today on Twitter.

iPad-Pro-Big-Ol-Logo.jpg

Earlier rumors indicated that after keeping mini-LED exclusive to just the 12.9-inch iPad Pro in 2021, Apple would expand the newer display technology to the smaller 11-inch form factor. Young, in a tweet, says that's no longer expected this year, noting the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is "doing really well" and that Apple doesn't need to bring mini-LED to the smaller form factor.

If the 11-inch iPad Pro were to gain a mini-LED display, it would bring both iPad Pro sizes to more parity, potentially decreasing the appeal of the significantly larger 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Both iPad sizes share the same M1 Apple silicon chip, camera, and design, with the display technology and battery capacities being the only differences. Apple is planning to update the iPad Pro sometime this year, and rumors are slightly muddled on what exactly to expect.

Rumors indicate the iPad Pro will support reverse wireless charging for devices such as the iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods, but subsequent reports have shed light on issues Apple is facing with developing such a feature.

Apple initially wanted to develop a glass back on the iPad Pro, but it may instead opt for a large glass Apple logo instead for the wireless charging. Regarding performance, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has said the new iPad Pros running iPadOS will likely feature the M2 Apple silicon chip, which is even more powerful than the current M1 chip in the iPad Pro and the new fifth-generation iPad Air.

I was waiting for a miniLed screen to swap my old 10.5 Pro. I won't bother for just the M2 CPU, however powerful.

Does the 12.9" iPad have the shadow all the way around the borders like the MacBooks with mini LED do? It's noticeable and off putting once you see it.

I hope this is just speculation. even with an m2 processor, without an upgraded display the 11” Pro seems like an unwanted step child where it was the most popular form factor outside the plain iPad for a while. The 12” gets much deserved love but it is too big for many of us.

My iPad Pro 10.5 (2017) is still working perfectly, and does everything I need it to do.
The A10X is fine.
And the display with ProMotion is terrific.

If it died on me, I'd probably avoid the iPad Air, as I'd worry about noticing the non-ProMotion display, having got so used to it. So I'd be pushed into the 11inch iPad Pro I guess.
I loved my 10.5 pro ... was my favourite ipad. Upgraded to the 12.9 M1 iPP and handed my 10.5 down to my Son with strict instructions to look after it!

It's not a refined technology yet, it seems. Either they'll have to start oversizing the screens and masking off the edges, or find a way to make the number of backlights on the edges match the number across the rest of the screen/or at least match the output. It really looks ugly to me.

Maybe it won’t be getting mini-LED but OLED instead, since there have been rumors of OLED iPad around iPad Air/iPad Air-sized iPad? Anyways, it’s a big shame for 11” iPad fans. The increased contrast and darker blacks (besides blooming) is a massive improvement over the current LCD displays on all iPads except the 12.9”.
Good, give me OLED instead :)
^^^^

hope they skip Mini-LED and go straight to OLED. I'll upgrade when they do. Not interested in Mini-LED.

I suspect this may be where things are headed. It seems plausible that the component-cost / delivery-timeframe for the potential 11" Mini LED screen and 11" OLED screen simply favor going straight to latter rather than stepping to the former in the interim.

So is this an indication that the iPad Air could increase to 11” and the iPad Pro 11” will get killed possibly??? That will make a huge price gap between the Air and Pro line up though.

It would explain the Air gaining an M1. They're moving the Air slightly further pro, then getting rid of the 11-inch Pro, and maybe adding a bigger 15-inch Pro.

If this is true, it’s the potential death Knell for the 11" iPad Pro. The XDR display is the main reason I’ll stick with my 2021 12.9 iPad Pro until Apple decides to put an XDR display in either the 11" iPad Pro or the iPad Air.

Has been a really nice refresh from my 2017 12.9 iPad Pro 2nd gen
