I use my iPad for both note-taking and media consumption. So give me an 11" with XDR display or I will stick with my still trustworthy 10.5" Pro.

It would make a lot of sense. Apple’s product line is growing more confusing, matching Apple’s growing bureaucracy. I asked an Apple employee yesterday why anyone should consider the iPad Pro over the new iPad Air and he said there is none unless you need a larger screen.
That is the general consensus now, the iPad Pro is only worth it if your going for the 12.9” the vast majority of consumers will disregard the 11” now… then throwing the M1 in the Air really signifies what apple plans to do with the 11” Pro… the only saving grace for the 11” Pro now is something coming software wise which is exclusive to the Pro devices… BUT it’s going to be hard to justify why it’s exclusive to the Pros when the Air has the same chip… so personally I think the 11” has got a nail being hammered in its coffin….

Rewinding back to when the iPads were registered in the Eurasian Database earlier this year… they registered 9 iPad model numbers, 4 would have been for the Air, which leaves 5 model numbers which could suggest only the 12.9” will be refreshed this year…

My next iPad is going to be 12.9" I do like the 11" but a larger display will be very useful for everything I do with it, including SideCar for my MBP.

Yeah I flitted between the 11” and 12.9” for a while and finally settled on the 12.9” after I got the new mini as a gift for Christmas, the mini was just too close in size to the 11” for it to be worth having both… I now use the 12.9” as my at home tablet/laptop, and use my mini as my on the go device for work etc… great combo IMO… I will probably take my 12.9” on flights or if I am travelling far etc…

So still no real reason for me to upgrade from my 2018 11“ iPad Pro, this was really ahead of its time (in terms of hardware) ??
Same here. Only thing that might get me to upgrade is moving the camera to landscape to let me actually use the thing for zoom meetings.

I feel the iPad Pro 11" is in an odd spot along side the M1 iPad Air, identical performance, same connectivity...the only advantage is 120hz, is that what makes the Pro iPad "Pro"?

why is everyone saying this.

There is still plenty that sets the pro aside from the air.

its not all about the processor.

If you dont want or need better cameras, better speakers, and a better screen... then sure stick with the air.

For those who do want those extra features then the pro is for you.

Just because some people dont want them doesn't mean to say others shouldn't either.... of course they do.

Thats why its a different model at a different price point.

Lucky old Air customers... they get a cracking tablet at a decent price point.... and if the cameras etc aren't of interest then save your money for sure.

The 11" pro and 12.9 pro are quite valid, and even now that the air has the same processor it still lags behind in a number of significant ways.

As if there is going to be another iPad Pro this year, do these 'analysts' even pay any attention to Apple's release history?
Apparently not. Over the past few years the so-called analysts have been wrong way more often than right, and they were way off again on March 8. I call them "guessers", because that is all they are doing now, for the most part. I agree, historically the iPad Pros would have shown up at the Spring Event, but didn't, so I really doubt we see them later this year.

Doesn't matter. There's literally no need for the iPad Pro to exist. Why pay more for a device with a totally gimped & restrictive operating system when the cheaper iPad Air can give you exactly the same horrible experience for less money?

I haven't of course heard the iPad Air 5 speakers yet, but even my 2018 iPad Pro 11 speakers are magnitudes better than my iPad Air 4 comparing them side by side. Those speakers, Promotion, the better camera systems and the extra 64GB storage is easily worth the extra $200 for me regardless of how gimped the OS is. However, yes for say my parents I'd save the $200.

Same

All I’d upgrade for is OLED or mini LED display, better battery and new design.

It’s been utterly fantastic for 3 and a half years now and probably the best apple product in years.

Looks like I’ll hold off another year if this is true.

That's the stupidest logic I've heard. If the iPad Pro 12.9 is "doing really well" then why have an 11" iPad Pro at all, given the same logic not to have a mini-LED display? Why? Because the 12.9 is too big for some people. Almost every other feature is the same between the two. Sounds like Apple makes huge margins on the 12.9 and not so much on the 11" so they want people to buy the 12.9. Dumb.

Pro Motion is still really nice as is having Face ID And Quad speakers. I wont talk about camera since if Apple really gave a crap about cameras they wouldn’t still be using 3 year old modules in the CURRENT iPad Pro And stop using any of the iPad cameras as a talking point. Want to brag about iPad cameras? Stick the EXACT same system from the 13Pro in the iPad pro. Cinema video would be incredible on a giant viewfinder like an iPad. MAKE IT USEFUL !

and p.s. timing wise, they MUST make iPadOS16 actually capable of taking advantage of these M series chips that now inhabit both the pro and the air before they put even more powerful chips in there.

no point otherwise.
I’m hoping the M chip added to the iPad Air is a sign that pro apps (Logic, Final Cut etc.) are coming within the next year or two…

Very bad news (if true) to be honest. As a 2020 11” iPad Pro owner I am looking forward to the HDR screen. I do hate that if you want the best device it has to be big. Thankfully the iPhone Pro has the same features as the max pro. I do hope 2022 iPad Pro 11” will get a hdr screen..

As it stands, the Air is far better value than the 11” pro.

It’s got to be the end of the 11” pro, maybe the 12.9” will come down a bit and a new 14/15” takes over as the most expensive.

its kindof fascinating where they can go with this now.

I know theres increasingly small changes to all such devices...

But what can the difference possibly be from last years pro. The M1 is already way overpowered for the software on the iPad, and there isnt exactly a realistic replacement processor now that they have jumped to M from A series...

Given theres no way there will be an M1 Pro in there - surely this years refresh will still have the M1? How exciting can that refresh be?
If they were to refresh the processor, the logical change would be to the M2 which would be a small improvement in performance over the M1. That is still overkill for iPadOS.

The Air starts cheap at 64GB but once you upgrade to a usable storage level similar to the 11" Pro, the price difference shrinks and you are looking at the range of $50-150 difference. When you look at the promotion display & faceID the Air comes up short. That 64GB in the base Air is not much space.
10.9" Air : 64 GB $599
10.9" Air : 256 GB $749
11" Pro : 128 GB 799
11" Pro: 256 GB 899
