That is the general consensus now, the iPad Pro is only worth it if your going for the 12.9” the vast majority of consumers will disregard the 11” now… then throwing the M1 in the Air really signifies what apple plans to do with the 11” Pro… the only saving grace for the 11” Pro now is something coming software wise which is exclusive to the Pro devices… BUT it’s going to be hard to justify why it’s exclusive to the Pros when the Air has the same chip… so personally I think the 11” has got a nail being hammered in its coffin….It would make a lot of sense. Apple’s product line is growing more confusing, matching Apple’s growing bureaucracy. I asked an Apple employee yesterday why anyone should consider the iPad Pro over the new iPad Air and he said there is none unless you need a larger screen.
More like “iPadOS is still gimping competent hardware,” but sure.So still no real reason for me to upgrade from my 2018 11“ iPad Pro, this was really ahead of its time (in terms of hardware) ??
My next iPad is going to be 12.9" I do like the 11" but a larger display will be very useful for everything I do with it, including SideCar for my MBP.That is the general consensus now, the iPad Pro is only worth it if your going for the 12.9” the vast majority of consumers will disregard the 11” now… then throwing the M1 in the Air really signifies what apple plans to do with the 11” Pro… the only saving grace for the 11” Pro now is something coming software wise which is exclusive to the Pro devices… BUT it’s going to be hard to justify why it’s exclusive to the Pros when the Air has the same chip… so personally I think the 11” has got a nail being hammered in its coffin….
Rewinding back to when the iPads were registered in the Eurasian Database earlier this year… they registered 9 iPad model numbers, 4 would have been for the Air, which leaves 5 model numbers which could suggest only the 12.9” will be refreshed this year…
Yeah I flitted between the 11” and 12.9” for a while and finally settled on the 12.9” after I got the new mini as a gift for Christmas, the mini was just too close in size to the 11” for it to be worth having both… I now use the 12.9” as my at home tablet/laptop, and use my mini as my on the go device for work etc… great combo IMO… I will probably take my 12.9” on flights or if I am travelling far etc…My next iPad is going to be 12.9" I do like the 11" but a larger display will be very useful for everything I do with it, including SideCar for my MBP.
Same here. Only thing that might get me to upgrade is moving the camera to landscape to let me actually use the thing for zoom meetings. So still no real reason for me to upgrade from my 2018 11“ iPad Pro, this was really ahead of its time (in terms of hardware) ??
why is everyone saying this.Same here. Only thing that might get me to upgrade is moving the camera to landscape to let me actually use the thing for zoom meetings.
I feel the iPad Pro 11" is in an odd spot along side the M1 iPad Air, identical performance, same connectivity...the only advantage is 120hz, is that what makes the Pro iPad "Pro"?
Apparently not. Over the past few years the so-called analysts have been wrong way more often than right, and they were way off again on March 8. I call them "guessers", because that is all they are doing now, for the most part. I agree, historically the iPad Pros would have shown up at the Spring Event, but didn't, so I really doubt we see them later this year.As if there is going to be another iPad Pro this year, do these 'analysts' even pay any attention to Apple's release history?
Doesn't matter. There's literally no need for the iPad Pro to exist. Why pay more for a device with a totally gimped & restrictive operating system when the cheaper iPad Air can give you exactly the same horrible experience for less money?

I think you are spot on here. The 10.9 is hilariously close to the 11 inch pro in nearly all aspects that consumers care about other than decent speakers.Wild prediction: the iPad Pro will be 13" only.
Pro Motion is still really nice as is having Face ID And Quad speakers. I wont talk about camera since if Apple really gave a crap about cameras they wouldn’t still be using 3 year old modules in the CURRENT iPad Pro And stop using any of the iPad cameras as a talking point. Want to brag about iPad cameras? Stick the EXACT same system from the 13Pro in the iPad pro. Cinema video would be incredible on a giant viewfinder like an iPad. MAKE IT USEFUL !Same here. I’m hoping the M chip added to the iPad Air is a sign that pro apps (Logic, Final Cut etc.) are coming within the next year or two…and p.s. timing wise, they MUST make iPadOS16 actually capable of taking advantage of these M series chips that now inhabit both the pro and the air before they put even more powerful chips in there.
no point otherwise.
The 11” 2018 iPad Pro was the best iPad of all time. Apple hit a grand slam with this model and its A12x processor. Still a very viable performer in 2022.So still no real reason for me to upgrade from my 2018 11“ iPad Pro, this was really ahead of its time (in terms of hardware) ??
If they were to refresh the processor, the logical change would be to the M2 which would be a small improvement in performance over the M1. That is still overkill for iPadOS.its kindof fascinating where they can go with this now.
I know theres increasingly small changes to all such devices...
But what can the difference possibly be from last years pro. The M1 is already way overpowered for the software on the iPad, and there isnt exactly a realistic replacement processor now that they have jumped to M from A series...
Given theres no way there will be an M1 Pro in there - surely this years refresh will still have the M1? How exciting can that refresh be?
The Air starts cheap at 64GB but once you upgrade to a usable storage level similar to the 11" Pro, the price difference shrinks and you are looking at the range of $50-150 difference. When you look at the promotion display & faceID the Air comes up short. That 64GB in the base Air is not much space. As it stands, the Air is far better value than the 11” pro.
It’s got to be the end of the 11” pro, maybe the 12.9” will come down a bit and a new 14/15” takes over as the most expensive.
