Very bad news (if true) to be honest. As a 2020 11” iPad Pro owner I am looking forward to the HDR screen. I do hate that if you want the best device it has to be big. Thankfully the iPhone Pro has the same features as the max pro. I do hope 2022 iPad Pro 11” will get a hdr screen..
I am still rocking a 10.5 pro with Touch ID. I have been waiting for the new 11 inch pro as the stagelight on the 10.5 is really getting bad. But I have been waiting as you have been. I travel on a bus for my daily commute. While a larger screen would be handy for some work purposes, the 12.9 is just too big for reading the paper /editing documents on the bus.

Same here. Only thing that might get me to upgrade is moving the camera to landscape to let me actually use the thing for zoom meetings.

I feel the iPad Pro 11" is in an odd spot along side the M1 iPad Air, identical performance, same connectivity...the only advantage is 120hz, is that what makes the Pro iPad "Pro"?
Well, same as the iPhone lineup has been until now: same performance (same SoC), but the Pro model has Pro-Motion, slightly better design, more cameras, LiDAR… you name it. Biggest iPhone is the same size as smallest iPhone Pro. Just like in the iPad lineup.

Yes, the 11” iPad Pro makes a lot of sense.

that's a huge bummer. I was hoping to upgrade the 2018 iPad Pro 11 inch. But if there is no miniLED display, I will hold out for another year.

For 12.9 inch device, I'd much prefer a MacBook Pro/Air, especially considering the weight is similar if you add the Magic Keyboard for the iPad.

My iPad Pro 10.5 (2017) is still working perfectly, and does everything I need it to do.
The A10X is fine.
And the display with ProMotion is terrific.

If it died on me, I'd probably avoid the iPad Air, as I'd worry about noticing the non-ProMotion display, having got so used to it. So I'd be pushed into the 11inch iPad Pro I guess.
My iPad Pro 10.5 (bought when it was first released) sort of died on me. I decided to go with the version 4 iPad Air and love it. I plan to keep it until it dies or Apple releases a double layer OLED version, Pro or Air.

This is a Dumb argument By Apple about how having the mini LED screen exclusive to the 12.9” will push people to buy it over the 11”. First of all, the 11” iPad Pro is suppose to be a PRO iPad. It deserves the mini LED screen like the 12.9”. And secondly, I WAS Going to upgrade my 2018 11” iPad Pro last year, but when it didn’t get the same mini LED screen as the 12.9”… i passed. I didn’t buy the 12.9”. I prefer the 11” screen. And lastly, many people who were thinking of buying the 11” iPad Pro because they prefer the smaller size, may just decide to get the new iPad Air now instead of the 11” iPad Pro because of this. So Apple will actually probably lose money if they don’t upgrade the 11” iPad Pro screen. Just my thoughts.

I think/hope this prediction is, like others have said, because they intend to give the 11” Pro an OLED screen. Rather than declare the 11” Pro dead, I can actually see a world where there’s an 11, 13, and maybe 15” iPad Pro line, in native horizontal orientation (with the apple logo rotated 90° and the front camera moved to the long side), running a “pro” version of iPad OS that’s slightly closer to Mac OS. That would certainly be enough (along with quad speakers and ProMotion) to separate the “Pro” line from the Air, even though they would share the same or similarly performing chips. And it would mirror the differences between the m1 pro/max MacBooks vs the rest of the MacBook line.

When you consider what Apple did with the new MacBook Pros, listening to customer gripes about the keyboard and I/O ports, and when you consider that the 14” and 16” MacBook Pros have the same feature set, including screen and speakers and configurations, it makes sense. Also, consider that the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max have the same feature set now too, including cameras, screen, and even the 1 terabyte storage option. I think doing this with the iPad pros and changing the orientation + letting the OS take full advantage of the processing power makes sense. What doesn’t make sense is for the iPad Pros not to share features, and I can’t imagine Apple plans to kill the 11” iPad Pro line and walk away from the $200 extra they could make from every customer who wants an 11” form factor with pro features. Apple loves money way too much to do that.

I think he's wrong, he has based his decision purely on a marketing aspect, whilst seemingly ignoring the fact one is larger then the other. People don't buy the bigger iPad solely because it has Mini LED, they buy it mainly because it's a bigger iPad..
I think Apple will bring Mini LED to the 11" Pro to further distinguish the Pro range from the other models, and it won't impact the 12.9" sales in the slightest.
100% this, mate? You'd otherwise be daft to spend all that money on an 11" Pro when you could buy a new Air for a fraction of the price, and with - almost (yes, 'almost') - verbatim specs. I fully expect to see the 2022 iPad Pro to feature a Min-LED screen, and thus matching its older brother. The 2022 Pros need to be *special*. A Mini-LED screen is a basic, prerequisite component for any 2022 device that intends to market itself as both 'premium' and 'the best'; that allows it to be called *Pro*. Man alive, this is 2022 ?

PS - Maybe they're gonna go OLED (very doubtful, but not impossible); or perhaps this 'leak' is just what it appears to be: white noise, and just plain daft

The Air starts cheap at 64GB but once you upgrade to a usable storage level similar to the 11" Pro, the price difference shrinks and you are looking at the range of $50-150 difference. When you look at the promotion display & faceID the Air comes up short. That 64GB in the base Air is not much space.
10.9" Air : 64 GB $599
10.9" Air : 256 GB $749
11" Pro : 128 GB 799
11" Pro: 256 GB 899
This 100%. 64 is just not enough. I have been waiting to by an iPad and thought I would get my first 11” ipp this year, but if the screen isn’t updated, I will hold off…again.

If the air started at 128gb and had promotion then it would be more enticing. 128gb is the minimum I would want. So for me it’s comparing the $749 air to the $799 pro. No comparison there. I would pick the pro EVERY TIME. Doesn’t matter the pro is 128 and air 256….I would have to pick 256 on the air because 64 just isn’t enough. I don’t need 256, so that’s where the pro $799 comes in. At a $50 difference the pro wins.

Honestly, I have wanted an iPad for a long time, but it’s not a cheap purchase for me and when you try to compare these, it just makes it difficult to pick one. I was really set on the 11” pro this last release until it didn’t get the updated display. So I was going to wait for it this year…..well…..

I am sure I am in the minority here, but Apple isn’t getting my money because of all of this. I think the 12.9” would be too big. I really want a nice display and really would use it mostly for entertainment, piddling around with, and when I have to travel for work.

Mmm that’s my thinking, and would explain why M1 was slapped in the Air… it wouldn’t surprise me if the next iPad Air gets quad speakers, 11 inch display, 128GB base storage and is price bumped to $699
Well, if true, they’re leaving money on the table, because I’m not upgrading my 11” 2020 iPad Pro to a model without ProMotion and definitely not buying a new one that does not have new display tech in it, either OLED or Mini-LED. And a 12” iPad Pro is too big and heavy to be a good choice for me (and I suspect a lot of other people).

Fine by me, because I can stick with this one for another 3 years if necessary and I get to save some $$ for iPhone upgrades. :)

hope they skip Mini-LED and go straight to OLED. I'll upgrade when they do. Not interested in Mini-LED.
Due to there being thousands of local dimming zones on their Pro Display, there is no point in OLED. It would be a downgrade, sacrificing brightness along with other cons OLED has to offer.
