Every time i have done it, its always at like 12:05 or 12:10pst. Does anybody know if they open up the pre orders first to any specific country or time zone. like 12:01 to a certain time zone and 12:02 to another? I don't think i have ever got in at exactly 12:01 and i am in PST!

Yeah, it's rarely bang on time. Normally a bit later.

In an interview last month Apple showed off the so-called 'war room' where engineers and other staff assemble to flick the switch on pre-orders.

You can tell it is a manual process, and I would bet they wait until they are certain everything is running properly. It's a massive operation.

I think it’s just year to year delays for various reasons. I remember I got in at 11:50 during the iPhone 6 preorders. Usually within 2 minutes of 12:01 though.

Yea the app usually takes a few panic filled minutes for me before it's actually up an running. I usually start at 12 and just keep opening it, on average I'd say its a good 3-4 minutes after 12:01 PST every time I've pre ordered.

I know exactly what the purpose of this thread is, and I like it.

"Hey you there, yeah you! You should probably catch a few extra minutes of sleep. These things never open up on time anyways. ;)"

Hey!! don't say my intentions out loud>.hahah

what do you guys do to refresh it. open and close or just switch apps back and forth? i always get worried switching apps wont refresh. Like i haven't done this for many years already...lol..

Does anybody know if they will have in store pickup to pick a time on launch day like before. my local apple store employee said yes but they don't know squat...Last year they decided to not have any pluses at apple stores but did at carriers.

Do you know if there is a link to this interview, be interesting to see the war room....Imagine 10 mill orders going in at the same time. what a billing nightmare

We also have to remember this is a split launch, so a lot less customers pre ordering

I think you guys are right. Just sleep in and try it about 12:05 or 12:10,everything will be fine.

I saying this to get you extra zzzzzz not because I want to beat you to a phone, trust me

Good point. I also doubt there will be 50 million pre-orders as some estimates have it. Without any numbers though its pure speculation.

Well i do know this, there will never be 50 mill on opening weekend. The iP6 was 10 mill on opening weekend, the 6s was 13 mill opening weekend. So lets just guess the 7 was 13-15 mill, we will just say 15 to take the high road. Take into account the 8 launch. i doubt the IPX will even hit 10 mill on opening weekend sales. So if the 3 mill pre order stock is right. 3 out of 10 people will get on launch...

Those estimates seem reasonable and I would have no reason to think they would be out of those ranges. If that proves to be accurate, it is highly likely that most people on this site that are pre ordering the second the site/app is live will be able to secure one. Out of the 10 million who would pre-order, many will fall victim to some delays (not pre-entering payment info, not opening the site/app right as it goes live, missed alarm clocks etc., also the people who will pre-order but will do so comfortably in the morning when they wake up). I think people should be concerned about getting one on launch day if they dont have there order in within about 3-5 minutes of the app/site going live. Not to mention a significant amount of stock will be distributed over the entire month of november to begin catching up to demand. Apparently Apple has fixed the 2 bottlenecks in the production process and are now free flowing.

I would love to be able to watch that room when a pre-order event like this happens.

But there are also reports saying pre order stock will be ok. so i bet it will just be like past years... And ya i haven't factored in any people getting hung up or sleeping in and all that. I just want to know if they will have in store pickup. I live in a smaller town, Santa Rosa. The one that just got burned by the fire storm so i am thinking we will have less people this year at the store due to the fires.... And i always get 8am pickup time...(don't want to wait till 1pm to get it shipped to door). Last year they didn't have in store pickup, with the 8 they did. So i am hoping, although me picking a time window is one extra screen i have to do....

Didn’t Apple say this year pre orders were starting at 12:15am PST?

:)

oh that's right! NOt....They should let all California people in at 12:01 and everybody else 12:05. I mean this is where it all began, come on Apple show your home state some love! lol

So if you are using Apple.com and not the Appel store app or the carriers website then it may be a few minutes after 12:01 because the apple website never comes up at 12:01.

Yeah, Yeah... That's the ticket!

Yes they did ;) Don't forget 12:15 is when pre-orders start ;)

The website is always slower, they did say half of pre orders are through the app....

I see, I'll be ordering in store pickup as well. Luckily i'm in a big city, I have 3 very large apple stores within 15km of me. It's an extra few seconds but I'd rather get it in store with all of the other excited people. Hope everything works out for you.
