Us loving to see something like this is precisely why Apple would never let us see it. Happiness == Apple won't do it.

As far as I can tell, Apple works exceptionally hard to make people happy ... which is why so many people purchase and use their products.

It has nothing to do with some bizarre notion that Apple is trying to make everyone unhappy. The reason why they won't do it is that it risks exposing details about their operations that their competitors would love to see.

I think you guys are right. Just sleep in and try it about 12:05 or 12:10,everything will be fine.

I saying this to get you extra zzzzzz not because I want to beat you to a phone, trust me
I’m actually being honest my apple store app doesn’t have anything but the we have something special for you screen usually for a few minutes and a few app open and closures before it loads up which is usually beyond 12:01. Can you read? I started by saying I start reopening the app at 12 so how on earth would that be suggesting anything other than “maybe others should start a little earlier than 12:01 since it’s not always exact.” So it was helping ppl not telling them wait a few minutes.

Hey!! don't say my intentions out loud>.hahah

what do you guys do to refresh it. open and close or just switch apps back and forth? i always get worried switching apps wont refresh. Like i haven't done this for many years already...lol..

Does anybody know if they will have in store pickup to pick a time on launch day like before. my local apple store employee said yes but they don't know squat...Last year they decided to not have any pluses at apple stores but did at carriers.

Do you know if there is a link to this interview, be interesting to see the war room....Imagine 10 mill orders going in at the same time. what a billing nightmare
You have to open and close it you don’t refresh as its downs hours before the pre order.

Does tough in cheek mean anything to you?

"Hey you there, yeah you! You should probably catch a few extra minutes of sleep. "

Sleep? Real East Coast playas don't go to bed before ordering on launch night!

But there are also reports saying pre order stock will be ok. so i bet it will just be like past years... And ya i haven't factored in any people getting hung up or sleeping in and all that. I just want to know if they will have in store pickup. I live in a smaller town, Santa Rosa. The one that just got burned by the fire storm so i am thinking we will have less people this year at the store due to the fires.... And i always get 8am pickup time...(don't want to wait till 1pm to get it shipped to door). Last year they didn't have in store pickup, with the 8 they did. So i am hoping, although me picking a time window is one extra screen i have to do....
There's no extra screen. Pre-ordering doesn't ask you to choose time for pick-up.

When we place an order on 10/27, does anyone know the steps you have to take to select either UPS delivery or in store pickup? Any of the 8 users go through this?

Yeah, it's rarely bang on time. Normally a bit later.

In an interview last month Apple showed off the so-called 'war room' where engineers and other staff assemble to flick the switch on pre-orders.

You can tell it is a manual process, and I would bet they wait until they are certain everything is running properly. It's a massive operation.
How does this work with carriers?

I always think the site doesn’t come up until say 12:05pst, but then it’s always those who post in the threads “order submitted at 12:01”

I almost feel they purge cache when they make the store live and it becomes available based on location similar to a Cloudflare cache purge, but I have nothing concrete to prove that.

I do know for a fact though I’ve seen my phone get on lte get the store first while my computer still had the maintenance page or vise versa. DNS flushed, etc.. so not cache on my device for sure

I'm also curious about this.
Will the app light up a the right time or is quitting/relaunching it necessary to get it going?

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned is that this launch is wide open with the countries. 56 in total I believe. Usually it’s only 8-9 countries that are available for a launch day release. That’s not going to make it any easier. So all previous launch day preorder numbers may not be relevant.

Pro Tip for those using the Apple Store app.

Prior to Friday morning, go through the configuration of the X you want and then press the little heart icon to mark this as a favorite. Now you can just go to favorites and select the phone and everything will be configured (storage, color, carrier option) and waiting for you to press Continue once it becomes activated.

Then you can cycle back and forth between Favorites and the phone to refresh.

It doesn't usually start until about 12:30, so I don't think you guys should bother wasting time until then. I certainly won't be

You have to open and close is it. I just use the app switcher and switch back between another app and it will pop on

I just ordered Apple Watch and selected store pickup. Wasn’t asked for time.

That is cause it’s not on launch day or week of. Launch day and some days past will make you select a time...

Yes it will ask you what you want on the same screen when you pay..

I’m sure it’s the same

It’s a split launch which we know is the first time. So no the precious numbers don’t matter..

You won’t have an option to hit favorites while waiting. It’s just a “will be back soon” page with no icons to tap at the bottom.
B

And dude don’t tell People about that, let them take longer! Lol

An answer on this would be helpful

2 ways, switching between that and another app. Or close it completely and open. I have switched between 2 apps for previous.

And it’s fedex usually.

I think it’s just year to year delays for various reasons. I remember I got in at 11:50 during the iPhone 6 preorders. Usually within 2 minutes of 12:01 though.

Same here...I remember when the App came up live early. I thought due to the late hour I was hallucinating, haha!! :D

If I have the X in my iOS favorites with the 'unavailable' showing, will it refresh on it own?

What do I do? I know on OS X you have refresh, but I'm not sure what to expect on iOS Apple Store app (which I'm unfamiliar with)

Switch back and forth with another app
