If the iPad pro comes with

1) a Finder
2) a quad core A8X or A9 with a minimum GB score of 8000
3) 256 GB option
4) BTO ram with 4GB at the minimum
5) usb to lightning connector to hook up an external drive
6) Final Cut Pro X for iOS

Then, only then will I be considering this.

Hey a man can dream right :D

I don't get why people are so worried about slowing sales for the iPad. It had a crazy rollout because it was a brand new platform, but it's not a platform people are going to upgrade on as often as with phones. It's as simple as that. That they're still selling as many as they have despite selling so many so far is very impressive to me.

As for the 12"+ iPad, it makes sense. There'll be a market for it, but I don't think it'll be the flagship model. I think the Air is very clearly the flagship iPad when push comes to shove. Hell, even the MacBook Airs feel like the flagship MacBooks in the grand scheme of things. They're not the best, but they drive the most sales and in see many major innovations before the MBP line.

Seriously MR.

Can you stop using this crappy mockup rendering?!
Every SINGLE time I see it... my eyes start bleeding.

How can the display of a 12.9" iPad Pro... be BIGGER than that of a 13.3" MBA?!
And it's not just the perspective... it is just wrong.
So please for the love of god or the flying spaghetti monster... please use something that at least looks somewhat legitimate.

I mean, it's a nice dream and all, and I love iPads, but if we're talking about this sort of device, why not just get a rMBP? Sure, no touch, but in every other way, it'd blow any iPad out of the water when working with video. I'm not one to want to limit what you can do with an iPad, and it's clearly not just a consumption device, but the things that you can do best with an iPad don't strike me as the same sort of things you can do best on a traditional computer. There's just too many limitations with the iPad, but those limitations make the iPad great at what it does, just in the way limitations make MBPs not great iPads.

To use a musical example, the iPad to me is sort of like an acoustic guitar; you just pick it up and use it. It is what it is. Sure, you can do a bit more with it with a bit of work, but it shines as an instrument you just pick up and play. An electric guitar is a totally different beast. You can do a lot more with it in terms of effects and processing and tone shaping and style, and plug it into countless devices to modify the sound it makes. They're both great, but they're just different. Different tools for different jobs.

Apple's unstated motto - better late than never.

Why would anyone get this when they can get the Lenevo Yoga? I am a ZERO purchaser of Lenevo products as I boycott that company. However, anyone wanting the tablet with laptop capability would have to look no further than their offering. Apple's iPad (yes I own one) simply costs plenty and does very little in comparison. If the new iPad ran OSX then they could really compete properly. Sorry fanbois, just contrast and compare and sadly you'll see what many of us are seeing - Apple is as they say in politics - leading from behind.

Probably been said 10x in this thread already but if this had OS X on it, then as a direct rival to the surface pro 3 it could work.

I was close to a surface 3 but the pricing for the top end being more than an MB Air put me off. Somehow I ended up with a top spec 15" MBP and absolutely love it but OS X on something that could be clipped into a smartcase could be a nice companion too.

The reviews for the Yoga have been pretty bad, so I'm not sure why you'd want it. Might as well go for an old Surface laptop. Probably a better deal.

I agree.

The iPad is already very capable as it is for the intents that was conceived for: content consumption and every day tasks (email, facebook, browsing, casual gaming, etc).

The tablet market has become stagnant because it never really worked out as a productivity gadget. It's great as a couch device, but there's not much else you can do with it. So, increasing the specs is not the way to go anymore: the iPad doesnt need more processing power, or more resolution, or less weight. What it needs is more different ways to use it, more applications (and I dont mean more apps).

It is a productivity tool... But in the enterprise. That's where Apple is putting its major push right now I think for tablets since it senses that for now, there is some slack in the software department for retail customer use on the Ipad. Metal games will probably start hitting big by next christmas. Then, you'll see the Ipad become more important.

If the watch integrates with the Ipad, make it also a gateway to the internet for the watch, that could be an interesting way to sell more Ipads and watches since Ipad are a cheaper companion than the phone.

If people start buying Ipads + Apple Watch instead of Iphones, Apple makes just about the same amount of money but in a massively differentiated way from Android that locks people deeper in the ecosystem. A big win for Apple.

I'd think that Apple would want any Apple device with a data connection to the internet be able to serve as conduit for its watch.

12.9-Inch "iPad Pro" Wishlist

I hoping apple releases a product that consists of more than a bigger screen!! The new iPad pro should be a hybrid between the Macbook and the iPad in my opinion.

Here's my wish list.

1. Possible New OSX platform or Full OSX.
2. Detachable or flip type backlit keyboard.
3. Touch Capability with Mouse intergration.
4. Full software ability, e.g. Adobe PhotoShop CC
5. 4K
6. USB 3 (Full access to USB media)
7. Thunderbolt Dock
8. Wacom Pen

Apple we don't need an oversized iPad, please release the iPad Pro with pro feature sets. No gimmicky BS. Im a loyal Apple customer but there's so many other products out there offering so many options for the power user. There's so much to be desired for Apple products, Unfortunately Apple is not providing the public with a game changing machine. If I could take the Surface Pro 3, remove the Windows OS and install OSX, that would be a dream.

Don't get me wrong, I would much rather edit on a 5k iMac no doubt. But compared to an iPad an mbp is bulky, heavy and horribly inefficient. For editing on the go the portability of the iPad definitely has an advantage. When you get home you could simply export the project to your iMac.

Not to mention an iPad is much more affordable.

Don't need one, my first gen Mini is doing just fine and fits in my camera bag, the iPad Air and this one wouldn't.

iOS is the touch-enabled operating system for mobile devices.
OS X is the operating system for traditional input devices.

Apple has two successful operating systems that are widely regarded as best-of-breed on both traditional computers and mobile devices. They don't need to do what Microsoft did in desperation to try and grab some marketshare in the mobile space. Features like Handoff and Continuity are delightful answers to the problem of bringing two worlds closer together.

The iPad Pro if it exists is going to run iOS. The question is what power features and experiences can Apple bring to iOS to make larger screen devices more useful?

A stylus; and screen advancements in touch sensitivity and precision.
Something for artists, architects, engineers, etc.

LOL at Cook talking about "significant innovation" for the iPad. Someone please tell him that making it slightly thinner, slightly faster and with a slightly better camera (but no flash ) is not what "significant innovation" means.:mad::mad:

"significant innovation can be brought to the iPad," and suggested Apple was working on such improvements.

From the article, it's in the works, not already released.

They really need this. I keep hearing about Apple hating pens etc.. it's an option, not like it would ever be a pen or nothing at all. Plus there would be a very good reason for it.

My last tablet purchase was based on it having wacom and pressure sensitivity.

Really?? What would you use it for that you can't use a macbook air for?

yeah, bigger screen, split screen, users oh and a keyboard. Wait.. we are talking about a MBA right?

Why don't you wait to see what it is / does before chastising other people and criticizing the product.

Maybe a bit optimistic with 1000... ;-) but 200X is possible since the difference between Air 2 and the initial Ipad's GPU is already 72 times faster. Finfet 14nm and a decent clock boost because of a bigger size and bigger battery (and the possibility of Finfet) would get us there by the end of the year (even if we discount the new PowerVR 7 series coming).

By 2017 though we would exceed 1000 times faster at the speed things are going now.

I doubt it, things are slowing down quite quickly in the "how much faster we're getting" department for everyone. ;)
