I may be a small minority, but I'm hoping the Pro gets a price bump to even further differentiate from the iPad Airs. It has become more and more evident over the last few years that I am not the intended consumer for the Pro.
I'm also not the target audience for the Pro, but I still don't hope it gets a price increase... why would you want it to get a price bump? So other consumers have to pay more?

The lack of 11 iPP in all these rumors, makes me sad.
Agreed, but not surprising given iPhone Pro is also fragmented, with only Max having the best cameras.

Aside from 12.9" getting mini LED" (which may increase the thickness by almost 10%), what we know about 2021 iPad Pro seems fairly modest: A14X, 5G, and better cameras.

I have 2018 iPad Pro (with A12X). It is used by more than 2 members of my household, and Face ID's 2 faces limitation is frustrating.

We may replace iPad Pro with future iPad Air instead. Yes, iPad Pro also has ProMotion, better cameras with LiDAR, better speakers, and optional 512GB and 1TB storage. But none of these benefits are truly earth shattering.

Do we dare hope for the new WiFi 6e+ standard? No, right, not for at least another 2-5 years. Boy can dream, though

I for one wouldn't be OLED iPad. I consider Mini LED to be superior to OLED. OLED is just too troublesome with too many issues for just a little benefit. Mini LED can get very close to deep blacks (its just a matter of how many zones they use - the more the better it is) and its tech that has been almost perfected unlike OLED that has too many issues.

So no, it won't be outdated by OLED. It will be outdated by Micro-LED but that is still years away. (When it comes to screen of course)
Maybe mini LED > QLED > LED
but OLED is still better
micro LED is still very far away since they it can't make it small enough (ppi still too large)

First of all, DigiTimes has proven time, and time again that is not reliable in the slightest.
but secondly, we‘ve known.
we get it, the iPad‘s are coming in March. You’ve reported on it over, and over, and over, and over, and over again.
same with the iMac Pro discontinuation, we get it. It was discontinued. No need to run an article every time it goes out of stock, and then goes back into stock. just update the old articles.
The iPad Pro is coming in March, and the iMac Pro is being discontinued.
if you didn’t know by the several articles they’ve ran about it.
what’s next, you’re gonna tell me the iPhones are launching in the fall? That’s crazy talk
Careful moderators will suspend you for a month,

It's not black and white.

While OLED is better than mini LED for:
  • Viewing angle
  • Uniformity
  • Black level
  • Motion handling
Mini LED is better than OLED for:
  • No risk of permanent image retention/burn in
  • Brightness
Viewing angle is not a big deal for iPad Pro, since it is typically used by one person at a time. OLED's black level is perfect whereas with mini LED, blooming can still occur with more challenging cases like starlit sky and subtitle. Since I use iPad and Mac for reading and browsing, as well as for work, permanent image retention is a big risk. No amount of algorithm and pixel shifting will be able to compensate for running Safari for hours on end.

LOL! Also this year they are removing the lightning cable and box. Make sure to bring your own bag to the Apple Store. Need to maximize profit.
Soooooooo bitter, lol.

Was your career based on selling off all your extra Apple cables, or what? Why so salty??

For those paying attention- the policy to quit giving away the extra chargers was to neuter the argument of an “e-waste” bill that would have had companies FORCED by law into using a standard that the notoriously tech illiterate government would choose.
The side effect benefit to Apple is not selling 14 extra chargers per quarter, to the few people that only owned flip phones prior to 2021- or whatever your bizarre conspiracy theory is… in actuality: having the box 1/3 smaller uses 1/3 less resources, creates 1/3 less waste, & allows 1/3 more units in each ship/plane/etc.

I guess the massive environmental benefits & cost savings are meaningless compared to your perceived slight in Apple not adding more chargers to your junk drawer?

As I type this on my iPhone, My iPad Air 2 stares at me from across the kitchen island. It has no idea how much I’m looking forward to replacing it with the iPad Pro.

Soon, it will be passed down to my children where it will spend its waking moments playing “Henry Danger” and “A Series of Unfortunate Events” on a constant loop.

It is oblivious to its fate. And I am giddy with anticipation.
You must be a good writer 😂

Why are you here and commenting then? You do know that you don't have to click, right? :-D
Because I’ve been following MacRumors for years, and it’s really sad to see them devolving into posting the same three things over, and over, and over again.

What confuses me is that we’ve seen reliable leaks saying that an OLED model will come next year, so it’s not as though Apple’s against using OLED in tablets. It looks like the miniLED phase is temporary. Is there really a point in switching to a new technology just as a one year stop-gap?
Those OLED rumors are extremely unbelievable. I highly doubt that they’re true.
if they are, there is a great reason for them changing to mini LED this year. It’s to keep interest high. Imagine if they went another year, without touching the display, and just updating the processor.
people would wine and complain, just like they did last year when all the iPad got was a processor bump

Wait, so you want them to increase the price, just to make “your” decision to purchase the iPad Air more valid?
that makes absolutely no sense, make the customers that will appreciate the iPad Pro pay more, to make me feel better

What the hell Apple...? Why can’t they also do this with the 10.5” iPad Pro?

The 12.9” iPad Pro is so ludicrously large I don’t understand it. At that point you might as well use a laptop. It’s going to be extraordinarily aggravating if they don’t bring mini-LED to the smaller model

I used to think that too. Once I realized I wanted to read sheet music off of my iPad, the 12.9” became the only choice. The 12.9” is about the same size as a sheet of letter paper, and any smaller is just too small such applications.

I held off last spring in hopes of getting a mini-led screen and A14X iPad Pro, but these oled rumors are troublesome. My iPhone 12 screen is so beautiful, I’d hate to purchase now and oled come out in the fall.

I'm very curious to see what a mini LED display would look like compared to the current LED backlit LCD in the iPad Pro. Really just sounds like its an improvement in number of backlights.

I’ve got my fingers crossed that Apple does announce a new iPad Pro this month, so I can make my decision on whether to upgrade from my 2018 iPP or instead pick up an M1 Air (to replace my ancient 2013 rMBP 15”). What I’m most curious about is what they’re going to get for battery life out of the new model. It’s the one thing that is pushing me towards the M1 MBA. Micro LED likely won’t help much, unless its thinner form allows for a thicker battery.

As such you should know by now that this has been going on for years. Don't understand the confusion.
In about 1-2 months you will start getting iPhone rumours on almost daily basis. Have you not learnt all this from all these years? And if you know about this is it really necessary to come to the thread and say it instead of writing a feedback to the admins?

I've been here for many many years also and its been always like this.

I really hope the new 12.9" goes miniLED. I want a brighter iPad; as bright as they can make it. I used to use mine in the field, and even at max brightness, its not quite bright enough for a sunny day. Im sure the higher brightness will also improve HDR performance. I don't understand this fixation with OLED. I don't even think I would pick OLED over an VA panel. OLED is great for watching SDR movies and TV, but for work, I don't see why it would be superior to a LCD panel. How often do you look at your current iPP IPS screen and think it would be better with an OLED screen? The only time I think like this is when I'm watching a movie.

Anyways, I'm also on the 12.9" bandwagon. I had an overlap of about 3 months, where I had a 10.5", 12.9" and 13" mbp. After I got the hang of iOS, I only used my mbp for long (several hours) office work, printing, and managing my music collection in iTunes. The 10.5" was nice in the field, but I found the larger screen size of the 12.9" made it easier to edit documents with the pencil. I ended up selling all three when COVID slowed things down at work, but now that things are recovering, I was planning on buying another 12.9" before the summer. So, I'm hoping this rumor pans out and I hope it adds 5G and wifi 6E.

If you need/want a MacBook, strongly consider the Air. It is a great system and the battery life is fantastic. I use it for several hours every day and charge only once or twice a week. And the M1 processor is fast. My $999 base (8GB, 256GB SSD) MB Air is faster than my 2019 16" MBP (32 GB, 1 TB SSD) was at most basic tasks like browsing, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.
