yeap.
Still the drain continues after 1 week or so, with NOTHING running int he background and having switched of most of the locations services + Background App refresh....

The first day I had it, ti was on 14.2 and battery seemed ok.
When the 14.2.1 came into the picture, battery drain came too (or at least that was the point where I've noticed it)

And i can tell that with 14.3 beta things are not better...being testing a few days now,and battery drain continuous on standby

Over the last couple of weeks I've left my iPhone 12 mini on low power mode overnight, so that it only drains 10% at most. I forgot to do that last night, and lost a whopping 40%! I generally like to keep my iPhone above 20% charge when I can — to prolong longterm battery health — so was kind of annoyed to see it sitting at 15% morning. As always, the battery screen shows no apps being used during the night.

So i charged my 12 pro with 14.2 up to 100% yesterday morning, put it in a drawer and left it all day and used my iPad and macbook for daily activities. No particular settings. Just a standard set up with iCloud back up running over night. Checked it this morning and it was down to 88% so thats 0.5% per hour over a 24 hour period. That I would expect is normal as it backed up to the cloud last night and would have been doing some syncing with my iPad and MacBook during the day. If it had been a pro max, i would expect less.

The iPhone 12 lineup brings a host of new features beyond the design change and one in particular that can reduce battery life is 5G support. However, a growing number of users are finding their iPhone 12 battery draining quickly on standby, even when on Wi-Fi or with 5G turned off.

It’s often the case when getting a new phone that it feels like the battery is draining more quickly. But that’s usually due to increased use early on, checking out new features, restoring data, checking out new apps, using the camera more, etc.

And in the case of some of the iPhone 12 models, particularly the Pro and mini, they have a less battery capacity than the iPhone 11 lineup. Interestingly enough, user Master26A on Apple’s Communities forums brought up the fast iPhone 12 Pro battery drain on standby even when their expectations were that it wouldn’t be quite as good as the iPhone 11 Pro. They brought up battery loss of about 4% (per hour) on standby shortly after getting their iPhone 12 Pro in late October.

Old news

I had the same problem with my 12 Pro Max. Battery used to drain around 22 to 25% every night(8 hours). I think I found a solution for my device. Turning off Location for 'Networking and Wireless' helped. Seems like U1 chip is searching for location in the background. With this I was able to reduce the drain to 12% during night. Then I turned off 'Allow Siri When Locked'. With this my battery drain yesterday was just 3% over a period of 12 hours with the phone being unused during this period.

My phone is set to connect to 4G network only. No 5G at my location.

Unfortunately after a couple of days, the drain has started again :(. Hopefully this issue gets resolved in the next iOS update.

Maybe it really has to do with cellular network. Mine’s on T-mobile BTW. I still have everything on defaults such as 5G etc. except for raise to wake and Covid tracker have 0-2% drain per night

10-15% loss during the night seems reasonable - especially as the battery is optimizing for a few weeks and apps are catching up.....
Personally I don't think this is "reasonable." My XS Max with a 94% battery health would lose 3...maybe 4% overnight off a charger.

Back in July I noticed it was losing WAY more than that, 15, 17% in 5-6 hours overnight which was extremely unusual. (This was due to the iOS back then running Dropbox, or for some Apple Music constantly in the background)

Once I removed Dropbox, battery drain was back to a normal level again. An iOS update - thinking in mid July resolved that odd drain, apps running in the background.

I haven't tested 12 Pro Max yet off a charger overnight, but so far - knock on wood - I haven't experienced any terrible odd drain in normal use.

No matter how you spin it, 10-15% is not reasonable. While most of us could probably live with it just fine, there’s really no justifiable reason a last-gen (or even earlier) model could maintain battery at a 0%-5% loss while completely idle and the new models cannot.

With that said, for the last two nights, I decided to stop driving myself crazy with the overnight drain, so I left cellular on, wifi on, airplane mode off, do not disturb on (basically the settings that ideally i’d always have), and both nights I finally registered only a 0-2% drain. Bizarre, but in my own experience, the only way to fix it has been to simply stop worrying about it and fiddling with settings. Of course, I recognize that’s not an ACTUAL troubleshooting step, and your mileage may vary. Weird.

Edit: 12 Mini
Edit 2: Most recent IOS, 5g toggled off

Well my 12 Pro finally settled in and changed some settings to prevent constant non app use drain.
The 12 Pro drains more during the day when I am not near WiFi.
Cellular 5G seems to be the difference compared directly with the XS Max.
My XS Max is a rock solid performer at 98% even after 2 years of use.

My iPhone 12 battery on standby maybe moves 1-3% tops In a 6-8 hour stand by period.

I switched this setting also. The majority of my day my phone is on Wi-Fi. 5G, right now I simply don't need it on.

My experience.

Iphone 12 mini bought on December 1st, first full charge while downloading backup from itunes. Never recharged from 21 pm December 1st to now. Used very little, only settings, notifications, a 2-minute phone call, 6 minutes of gaming, 2 pics, always at home except an hour. It is now at 20% after about 58 hours, most of which in stand-by.

OverNight consumption first night: 5% in 7h, only one sim, wifi always on, all battery saving settings applied.

Second night consumption, on air mode on: 2% in 7h. Third night, on air mode off: 4% in 6h.

While the old iphone 6S, with 76% battery status, in the same condition never lost anything from 100% overnight!

I slowly get the impression that the battery is being discharged to the same extent as when using it during the day/evening. Look at the screenshot. The battery discharges to the same extent.

Everyone with battery draining issues when the phone is not in use at night really should take a look at the following video...

Without exaggeration, I can have 100% on my battery when I go to sleep at 11pm and it will still say 100% when I get up at 6am. As a matter of fact, I took it off the charger at 100% last night at midnight, woke up at 5am and have been using it modestly since then. It is now 10am here and it is at 97%.

This is an iphone 12 on 14.2.1

Thankfully don’t have any battery draining issues on my 12 Pro but that’s a great video just the same. There are a lot of superfluous little battery termites built into iOS 14 that probably should be switched off for most people.

That said, I’ve decided to really baby the battery in this phone since I’m home most of the time and can charge it anytime. So no overnight charging at all, and I’m only doing half-cycles (from 30% to 80%). This is really just an experiment borne out of boredom and convenience—not suggesting this is the secret to eternal battery health or anything. But I’m really enjoying the battery life of this thing and am hoping to maintain this level of performance for as long as I can push it. ;)

I have a real problem with battery life in my iPhone 12 Pro Max. With everything shutoff at night, and except for turning on Airplane Mode, I see battery drain between 20-30% overnight. Having said that, I did not see this type of drain before updating to iOS v14.2.1 Therefore I believe it may be a software issue which will, hopefully, be addressed in the next iOS update.

There are approx. 58 pages of user complaints about this issue over at Apple's support "community" forums.

i lose maybe five or 6% during the day and about 10% overnight which I believe is backups, app updates and general syncing but I don’t really worry about it. I tend to charge my phone overnight now and it gets me through the day and that’s all that matters

Thanks for this. Since I bought this new phone, I actually forgot to go deep into the settings, especially the darn Location / System settings and toggle all that nonsense off!

AND ALSO the "Significant Locations," Nothing exciting to see where I've been lol in the past few weeks...but still what a brief detailed history of tracking me.

ditto - have been doing the same; I've even gone ahead and created couple of automations, to announce when the battery drops below 40 and when it rises over 80; Since, mostly at home, the phone itself announces me to put to charge or take off from charge.

god, I need to go to office now..have been at home too much 😬🤦‍♂️

My first day using outside my iphone 12 mini.

9:00>>>100%

11.30>>>100%

19:50>>>87% with 20 min screen time (others 45 min it was in charge)
Use: some settings, notifications (background), 2 pics, a ig story, a very short call (1min maybe)
22:50>>>85% totally in stand by
No wifi from 12am to 8pm

update: 01:40am to 9:40am, 83%>>>77% in stand by (Wi-Fi)

Is it good or bad?
