i changed carrier which supports WiFi Calling and therefore decided to just leave my iPhone on airplane mode with WiFi enabled when I am home (which is like 90% of the time thanks to COVID) and my nightly battery drain has completely stopped.

this leads me to believe that the issue is either the modem or at least software related to the modem and not an app or anything like that. At least in my case (12 Pro Max)

That seems to improve standby battery drain a lot for me, thanks for the tip! I'll keep observing...

Thanks for the tip; I actually didn't know that we can make calls in airplane mode if wifi calling feature is supported/on.
I'm also at home all the time, very useful tip for me..will try this for next few days.

Could NOT make this work. Have wifi calling on, when I put phone to airplane ✈️ mode and turn on the wifi, I try to make a call after a minute or so. And it’s asking me to disable the airplane mode.

ANd yes my provider supports wifi calling.

any specific setting I need to check/set .. thx.

thats weird. The whole point of WiFi calling is to use WiFi instead of the carrier network 🤔 it’s supposed to work for texts too
I thought 💭 so too. Would allow experts to weigh in here but, my observation is that if I remove for sim, the phone didn’t allow me to even make FaceTime calls using wifi.
I received calls but just could not make outgoing calls.

I guess it may the same thing when turning on airplane ✈️ mode.

for now back to old ways ..

Battery drains faster when I don’t use the phone. o_O

For me it works fine.mincan make and receive calls. The difference with airplane mode on and wifi calling is very noticeable regarding battery drain.. Almost non existant !

To make sure: have you enabled wifi calling in Settings? I don't mean any condescendance, just in case.

Thx. Have the wifi calling enabled as well. Not sure why it doesn’t work.
let me try again today .. maybe a restart will help. Let’s see.

12pro here. 70% drop overnight. The only possible solution is to switch to airplane mode.

I’ve had this issue since the release of the iPhone 12. I first purchased the regular 12 and it had the battery drain issue. I returned it and got the 12 Pro. Same issue. When the 12 Pro Max was released, it still has the battery drain. I had it exchanged for the last time and the battery drain is still present. So I’ve had 4 iPhone 12 all having the battery drain. I did all battery saving tips.

So I have tried that I could...restart, network reset, turn off the wifi calling setting and turning back on and so on..
don't know if this is a service provider restriction. But on airplane mode, I cannot make any calls using wifi calling option. :-(

I hope that the next version of software is able to fix this; The battery usage remains very good on my iPhone X, 38 months age, 86% of battery life.

night over night, battery usage on 12 is about 18-22%, on X remains less than 10% every night.
Both have same apps, same notification settings and same background refresh settings.

I certainly hope that future software update will be able to fix this.

Does it show WiFi Calling in the status bar? Just because you have the setting, doesn’t mean it is actually supported by your carrier. Therefore flipping on that toggle doesn’t necessarily activate it.

Hi. in india, we get to see Airtel Wifi. Screenshot attached.
Airtel is the service provider for me.

Okay, I may have an answer for my case; ended up speaking to the tele-support and was forwarded 1 document.
Seems, my service provider - Airtel doesn't support making calls in airplane mode. :-(((

When I go to bed I’m normally at 45% and with the 20w charging I haven’t charged my iPhone overnight.

When I go to bed at 45% and wake up usually 6 hours later battery hardly moves, maybe 43 - 44%.

So I had the opportunity to test two iPhone 12 Pro Max for 24 hours. My brother was kind enough to lend his graphite Max.

Both phones have same set up. Same postpaid lines under the same carrier. Mine is connected to my Apple Watch. Wifi turned off in both. Here’s the result.

Pacific Blue

7pm - 61%

5:30am - 56%

8:30am - 53%

11:30am - 51%

2:30pm - 47%

7pm - 39%

Total battery percentage lost - 22%

Graphite

7pm - 52%

5:30am - 48%

8:30am - 45%

11:30am - 44%

2:30pm - 39%

7pm - 32%

Total battery percentage lost - 20%

I think a 20% battery drain after 24 hours on standby is not acceptable compared to the 6-10% battery drain of my 11 Pro Max on standby for 24 hours.

Updated to the 14.3 RC yesterday. So far so good on its first night. iPhone 12 Pro Max
Can you please confirm if how it is working out now with the 14.3 beta? do you think it has been fixed? using iPhone 12 pro max. this issue is widespread and don't know why apple still hasnt responded.
