Christ on a bike, no we bloody well don’t. The most boring OS designer on the planet. And anyway I didn’t think he had anything to do with the operating system coding?
Well, after all it was just after he came back to being head of the OS design team (after being in the store design team for a while) that iOS 12 was changed to be a performance and bug fixing update instead of a big feature update, so I suppose he did in fact have something to do with the quality of the software. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Is there any way to replicate the animation stutter? To allow others to test if theirs does it too
We just don't know what the true culprit/culprits are. Some of us have some ideas but nothing in stone yet. Most people dont even notice it probably or even care. For many of us its annoying.

Stuttering example for me.. this is on iPad Pro 2020. This has only started since iOS 14.4

No worries.. apologies for posting here.. I guess I got a little excited that people were having the same issue as me..😂
All good. I just tried your test on my iPad Pro 2020 and its silky smooth. Make sure you don't have the limited frame rate on under accessibility/motion.

Yeah I checked for that, it’s not on, plus, my 12 pro max is the same and only since upgrading to 14.4.. thanks for the suggestion tho, much appreciated 👍

For what it's worth, here's a quick example of what we're talking about in the thread. I just took this, only takes a few seconds to reproduce.

There are two examples of the stutter here. One bad one and one really bad one. There's one extra level of bad above even that (not shown in the video) where it's so bad that it interrupts the animation of "going home" and instead sends you to the multitask view. That's just the worst.

Great example - now I can really see what you guys are running into. On my 12 PM, I very occasionally see only a very slight - and I emphasize very slight - hesitation in closure and have never seen the go-to-multitask-view. What you show is indeed a terrible problem.

I’ve experienced this stutter gesture issue on the 12 Pro Max for many weeks. Today I decided to review settings that might be more esoteric and less commonly used as these tend to evade QA testing.

I went through all the accessibility settings and tried to set everything to the defaults. I went into every sub menu. Aside from Speak Selection and Speak Screen still enabled, everything is as close to defaults as possible.

So far, all is working smoothly. Swiping up to the home screen is smooth. Please try this and report back.

How do you know what all of the defaults are? Apple support walked me through these menus and had me change a few things here and there. Nothing helped me. If you really don’t get any stutter back after a while, please post screenshots of all your settings. Thanks!

I don’t know the exact defaults. In general I just tried to disable the obvious stuff and looked for anything that seemed to add functionality.
So far it’s been stable but we’ll see.

No offence but that’s not even slightly helpful really.

Understood. Unfortunately Apple doesn’t document defaults for this section. The only way to know with certainty would be to review settings on a vanilla iPhone. Or launch the emulator on a Mac with Xcode.

Well, when I got the 12 Pro this year and noticed this stupid issue still wasn’t fixed, before I traded my 11 Pro in I factory reset it and set it up as a brand new user so I could see what all the default settings were. Not just Accessibility settings but all of them. I changed my new 12 to completely match all the default settings. It did not help, unfortunately.

Well for months I had this problem , tried evrything to resolve , started the ticket with apple from 7 january, and finally DHL came yestarday to take my Iphone 12 pro max to change it. They say that the problem is knowm from the tchnician , and I have to wait an update that resolve! Fortunally I changed hoping that the new one don't have the same problem!

Well you’ve wasted your time, your new one will also exhibit the same problem
