Yes, phones these days will not overcharge and damage the battery if left plugged in. I think the vast majority of smartphone users use their phone during the day, and charge overnight anyways.

I leave it on overnight with the 5W charger, was just wondering about the 12W?

I don't see why it would matter, the phone pulls what it needs to, the charger doesn't push power to the phone.

I use a 12 on my iPhone and never had issues. It says compatible with iPhone.

I have used a 12w iPad charger to charge my iPhone 6 (4.7") since early 2015 after discovering this thread. No problems whatsoever. It will charge at a rate of almost 50% per hour until it hits ~90% and then it slows to a "trickle" charging rate that is slower. I have been very pleased.

It doesn't make a difference. Once it's fully charged it stops charging with whatever charger you're using. Whether it's 5/10/12 watts.
