12 Pro Weight : 6.66 ounces (189 grams)

15 Pro Weight : 6.60 ounces (187 grams)

You can tell the difference between 2 grams?

My xOS definitely could!

All the Pro's felt heavy to me, but about the same (at least the ones I hefted).

The iPhone 12 series is one of the lowest point in terms of battery life and new technology [5G]

wrt: BL and NT aside, the introduction of the 12-Mini was IMO the most amazing piece of tech produced in the 20th :)

The introduction of FS OLED with FiD in such a small package was absolutely amazing!~

Nevertheless, I have--since--upp'd to the 13-Mini, but it still gives me chills....

I did finally upgrade my iPad Pro 10.5 to the new iPad 11 2024 and really was disappointed as it really wasn’t worth the money for what I use, so this one will be it for long time unless it dies.
OP, do you mean going to the newest base model iPad? Or the 11” 2024 iPad Pro? I’m more interested in the talk of the newest iPad not being worth it lol

Is it finally time to upgrade…12PM STILL running smooth and battery at 88. Bugs should be worked out from 15’s design and material but is it really worth it and if so, why other than just being new model.

16PM or will the 17PM really the upgrade that will be worth it and if so why?

Why buy a new device if the one you have has no problems?

If you have more money than you know what to do with maybe give it to a local food bank or something

I too am in the same boat, I have a 12 pro max at 84% battery health. Although I am tempted to get a new phone the 16 pro max is pretty much a s update nothing special.

I am holding out for the iPhone 17 pro max for the 48 mp cameras, 12 gb of ram & narrower Dynamic Island if it happens. Or if I can hold out a bit longer for the iPhone 18 pro max and the long rumoured punch hole design.

I am hoping for a design change as well like the slim not sure if this will ever happen for the pro max.

I would love to upgrade my 13 mini for a phone with better camera features, And any other new planned features, but unfortunately, due to disabilities I must have a phone that can be used one handed, I can only wish for a mini revival in the 16 and 17 series.

Another consideration is that Apple Intelligence looks like it won’t be ready out of the gate, and may take a year at least to mature. So having an AI-ready phone ready on day 1 may not account for much.

I’m posting this on my ancient 6, and while it’s not as fast as a 16, I’ve tried a few newer models and found there’s nothing the newer ones do that makes upgrading a necessity.

My 13yo niece however, whose entire life revolves around what’s happening online, cannot afford the heavy social cost of the torturously slow performance of her 14 pro max, so you may fall somewhere in between.
I guess u overspent on the 6 and should have sticked to a Nokia candybar;)

It’s a mostly insignificant upgrade. You’re getting a faster device with an all round improvement regarding the hardware but it is incremental.

There’s pretty much nothing a 16 can do that a 12 can’t.
Because Pro Motion, more optical zoom and USB C compatibility are insignificant… and those are just general hardware upgrades from the 12 to LAST years iPhone.
There are many little things in the OS that make a difference, too. Including the 15 Pro’s and newer supporting the new Apple Intelligence stuff, which is hopefully going to be just a useful Siri.
To say the 12 and 16 can do the same things is just wrong, especially because the 16 isn’t even out yet.
OP, go for the 16 or don’t, it won’t be a bigger upgrade than the 15 was and the most exciting thing about the 17 will be additions to the lineup, probably.

After this thread and some info I’m pretty much leaning this way too..very doubtful though I hold out to 18, 17 of some iteration will probably be it.

I said that the iPhone 12 could do “pretty much” everything a 16 could do.

A normal iPhone user won’t see much of a difference between both phones as Apple Intelligence is a novelty which is all hype as it is basically the ChatGPT app built into iOS. Regular non-productivity users won’t have much use for such an innovation.

There’s lots of incremental upgrades however they are just improvements on an already great phone. I am not saying that it’s not a worthwhile upgrade but I am not wrong when I say that the 12 can pretty much do anything a 16 can. Heck, even a 6S can do pretty much anything a 16 can… it’ll just do it a lot worse. The 12 is still a blazingly quick phone in 2024 so there is little QoL difference between a 12 and a 15. I doubt the 16 will represent a big jump in technology over the 15.

You should have upgraded back when iPhone 13 series was introduced and waited for 5 or even 10 years before upgrading... The iPhone 12 series is one of the lowest point in terms of battery life and new technology [5G]...
I have the base 11. Very happy with it. It's running 18.0 (beta) really well.

I'm obviously not a heavy user of the phone, as lack of features like pro-motion and 5G aren't bothering me. Probably because I've never experienced them! However, after nearly 5 years, the battery health is dropping, although it still always lasts the full day.

I'd love a better camera, but the photos my 11 takes do the job.

Whether I get the 16, the 16P, or wait for the 17 ... I'll decide a month or so after the 16 comes out.

I don’t think some understand the words “pretty much” because a lot of users fall into that classification of “pretty much” so for them it’s not worth it.

Well, the major selling points of 16 vs 12 are Apple Intelligence, larger baseline storage (128GB), a USB-C port and a Dynamic Island, if those are important for you.
“Major selling points”. :(

I love Apple, I’m an iPhone person, but wow - seeing 4 years of “innovation” summarized (accurately) like that reminds me that we probably just overpay to be in this ecosystem.

128GB base storage for Pro - 12 Pro series
128GB base storage for non-Pro - 13 series
120Hz [Pro-motion] only in Pro - 13 Pro series
USB Type C 2.0 - introduced in 15 non-Pro series
USB Type C 3.x - introduced in 15 Pro series
Dynamic Island in Pro - 14 Pro series
Dynamic Island in non-Pro - 15 series
Apple Intelligence - introduced in 15 Pro series

Personally, I’m waiting did the 18PM. The 16 is going to be incremental. The 17 will have the first gen of the new process and the upcoming features will still have bugs, so not worth it. 18 is your best bet.

My significant other has the standard 15, and these things alone make me want to upgrade yesterday:

- Camera (the iPhone 15 camera is a massive improvement over the 13 that I have)
- USB-C (all my other devices are USB-C, I can't wait to travel with just one brick in my bag)
- Screen Brightness (hers is perfectly usable in bright sunlight, mine is just about OK, until it gets warm and reduces brightness automatically which renders it completely useless).

Not sure if those are relevant to you, but after using her 15 side by side, it's clearly a nice upgrade already. Then there are all the "nice-to-have" features - Better performance, Dynamic Island, et.c.

...And we're not even talking about the 15 Pro here. :) And the 16 will bring even more value I'm sure.

I'm not due for another year at work, but I'm ready to upgrade so I might just buy one outright.

an upgrade starting from what?
Probably an iPhone 12. The 12 is a fantastic phone. The only issue with it is the lack of battery efficiency compared to an iPhone 13. That in itself is not really a reason to upgrade.

The vast majority of people upgrade because they want to, not because they need to.

To me all of those iPhone feels the same when holding them. I can’t even distinguish the difference between 10 grams, let alone 2. And I’m holding iPad Pro right now when typing this message. That one is far heavier than phone.

What exactly you dislike in your current phone? Just ask yourself:

• is it slow?
• does camera look dated?
• do I need more storage?
• is it too expensive to replace battery?
• are there any apps it cannot run?

If the answer to all these questions is “no”, then why even think about getting another same-looking iPhone?

We don’t because the ecosystem and user experience is (at least for me) main thing. Hardware is just one part of it. I’m using iPhone 11 (regular) which suits my hardware needs fine.
