Sell or trade in 12PM when/nearing 16PM launches so you’ll save some money for the upgrade and other people can buy 12PM cheaper and with battery health still above 80%.

We don’t because the ecosystem and user experience is (at least for me) main thing. Hardware is just one part of it. I’m using iPhone 11 (regular) which suits my hardware needs fine.

Exactly- you are doing it right, I was talking about the rest of us schmucks (including me) thinking about dropping 1-1.5k on a phone that’s marginally different every 1-2-4 years.

If your 12PM does what you need, why upgrade?

If you think you always need to have the latest and greatest for whatever reason, then you'll always be chasing what's next, and you don't need us to answer that question. You already know. Just always buy something new to make yourself feel better.

But if you only want to upgrade when your current device no longer suits your needs, then your decisions shouldn't be based on Apple's arbitrary release schedule for new devices. They should be based on your needs only. Buy what suits you when you want to buy.

Not pointing fingers at the OP, as their post sounds thoughtful, but I really don't understand mindless consumerism. If someone has a hole inside that they think can only be filled by owning stuff, then the latest phone or iPad isn't going to solve their problems.

So it’s all set…all 12’s are waiting for 17? 😉 It’s looking that way.

12 Pro Weight : 6.66 ounces (189 grams)

15 Pro Weight : 6.60 ounces (187 grams)

You can tell the difference between 2 grams?

No, I probably wouldn’t.
I didn’t check the specs. Some reports said it was significantly lighter and I took them as true.

My wife is on a 12 pro and I think she will wait for a 17. Maybe she gets a battery replacement.
Honestly my battery lasts easily for me all day with about 40% left….there is one thing I run my phone all the time with night shift on, I like the subtle tint look much better

I have a 13 pro max.. starting to think i might hold out for the 17. Not really interested in the A.I stuff dont need to have a conversation with my phone all day long

My 12 ProMax battery is at 89%, got a scare a couple weeks ago when it just didn't seem to be able to hold a charge all day. But it turned out to be some sort of fluke and it is back to usual, lasts all day and recharges in a couple hours in the morning (not a heavy phone user at all here).

So, no plans to upgrade until the battery can't make it through a day. The new phones don't interest me... a better camera would be nice, but not something I need. And the AI stuff is something I just don't want. BTW, I frequently see ads for some discount cell service (available at WalMart, evidently) that includes an iPhone 12 as part of a package deal, always makes me chuckle a bit. :)

Some people have posted that the more recent phones (not sure when it started) are doing heavy processing of photos and that they don't look "natural".

If that's true, then a better camera (hardware) coupled with over-processing could actually produce worse photos than an older phone under some conditions. This appears to happen especially in low-light, which is the only reason I'd want a better camera than my 11 in the first place.

This is just the kind of statement that prompts me to re-think ;)

My data contract in the UK is up with EE so I have started to sniff around for good deals on something better than the 12Pro which will allow me to either jump at the 16 series or wait 'til the 17 comes available.

Apple intelligence says hello?
And how is having the ChatGPT app integrated into iOS a big enough innovation to spur on an upgrade? LLMs are pretty useless to the majority of phone users who use their devices for non-work purposes… even folk who use language models use them on PCs because it’s almost impossible to optimise your workflow on a phone.

The 12 supports the ChatGPT app therefore the 12 can do “pretty much” everything the 16 can do.

So at what percentage would you say is when it cant last all day based on your usage...I realize that there will be some differences between users but within 10% I would think .....70%? Im thinking mine because of using night mode all day will be less percentage

Sorry, no idea. I never look at the battery screen, only reason I checked recently was that day when it didn't seem to hold a charge. Since I only need to charge for an hour or two, seems like it will last quite awhile. I upgraded from a 4 year old 6s Plus and battery would be down to 35% by the end of the day and would take hours to recharge. Am nowhere near that on my 12PM. :)

iPhone 11, battery status "Service", "Maximum Capacity: 77%".

Lasts the day. I charge every night on my original 5W charger usually with the phone turned off, so no "optimise charging".

Phone was bought in October 2019.

If you don’t know the difference between on device and chat gpt AI you’re missing the point
