Other 12PM to 16PM..no, it’s not, 17 is the one

If rumors are true, it’s likely we’ll finally see a high refresh rate screen in the base iPhone 17. Also, you’ll be able to compare it with the 17 slim/Air and see which one you prefer.

I’ve read somewhere else that this years iPhone 16 isn’t the beginning of a supercycle (although SoC+RAM wise, I do think it is), but rather next years iPhone 17 with a new design, taller display and who knows what other new feature.

Anyways, I think supercycles are mostly over, and the iPhone will experience small improvements and refinements every year.
Supercycles have been over for years. Apple has no reason to make anything but incremental changes from year to year.

There’s very little that appeals to nudge me in the direction of moving from my 13 Pro to 16 Pro right now.

If the AI (on my M1 iPad Pro) absolutely blows me away, then I may get the 16 Pro. Not at release.
For me, the slightly larger screen size, action button, and always on display are worthy upgrades to my iPhone 13 Pro.

Will also use the M1 MBP to try AI when it arrives.

Think I'll be sticking too, with the 12 Pro, but might try and stumble on a discounted 15/15 Pro.

I have the 12 Pro Max and M4 iPad Pro, and my wife has the 14 Pro max.
Wow, I also have the 12 Pro Max, and my wife has the 14 Pro Max. We upgraded our 2017 ipad pro 10.5” to a 2024 11” iPad Pro M4.

My 12 Pro Max has %93 Max Battery Capacity, so I decided to wait for the 2025 17 Pro Air.

Haha, great minds think alike. I gave my 2017 iPad Pro 10.5" to my son and got the the 2024 11" iPad Pro M4 too. o_O

Ugh, that multi core score number…
iPhone17,2 with 7751 multi-core.

great link to read all the reasons to wait for 17

that's enough reasons for me...hopefully the 12PM keeps on chugging along nicely till next year then time to upgrade...only decision will be "which model?"

17 Pro Max of course, if you’re coming from the 12 Pro Max and like it. That’s what I’ll be getting.

The 17 Pro Max rumours indicate it may have features not found in any of the other models.

I wonder about that under-screen Face ID rumour but then again Ross Young is fairly accurate. I hope he’s right. Under-screen Face ID plus 48 MP telephoto plus 24 MP FaceTime camera plus 12 GB RAM would be awesome.

you are probably right...it will be PM but still want to see all models, especially if the Air comes out

my 13 pro max takes a huge hit with battery life on iOS 18 and the slightly bigger screen convince me to upgrade this morning to the 16 pro max. I know I wasn't supposed to upgrade, but it was too tempting especially for the action button and the faster USB C connector.

Weird. My 12 Pro Max battery life is OK on iOS 18. However, I will likely get the battery life service next year, and then hand it down to my kid when I buy the 17 Pro Max. The 12 Pro Max's battery health is at 82% now. I figure it will be around 75% come October 2025.

I don't know if its because of iPhone mirroring and even if I don't mirror my phone, it somehow connect to my mac permanently if it is close but the battery life is atrocious in stand by since I update both my mac and 13 PM. Some days I barely use my phone and in the end of the day its already at ~77% and if I use my phone moderately I easily hit the 30-40% at the end of the day when before I never go down 50% if the phone was fully charged. Its around 6-7 hours of battery life when before I could reach around 9-10 hours.

Battery health is still good at 89%. The phone is more warm in general too.

Who’s ready for 17 air with different black bar design? Haha, I just want something that looks different than my 12 pro max.

In my opinion we're never going to get another "revolutionary" hardware upgrade from the iPhone, until we get new form factors entirely (ie foldables). It's minor adjustments from here on out for the candy bar form factor me thinks. Because realistically... where else is there to go? It's already a bezel-free (giant or modest) screen with impeccable cameras and top notch performance. The glory days of the smartphone are seemingly behind us, and that's ok! These tools are the best they've ever been and will continue to get even better (though marginally).

It’s a mostly insignificant upgrade. You’re getting a faster device with an all round improvement regarding the hardware but it is incremental.

There’s pretty much nothing a 16 can do that a 12 can’t.
Charging via the same cable as your MacBook and pretty much every other device in your life is a MAJOR win for the 15 series and onward. And indeed something the 12 cannot do. The 12 Pro series also lacks ProMotion and once you've experienced it on the daily you cannot go back, so that's another pretty significant difference.

The upgrade from a 13 Pro or later to the 16 Pro is rather insignificant, but for 12 series and earlier... pretty substantial imo.

I'm not interested in getting a foldable until the crease is removed (or drastically minimized). I say this as somebody who owned the Galaxy Fold4 for a bit.

Just reporting in:

I've just bought a s/h iPhone 15Pro w/256gb in a private face-to-face local sale for a price much higher than its trade-in but significantly less than on offer as a refurb.

Expecting to experience joy of upgrade from 12Pro/128gb ;)

Might even see me through to the iPhone 18 ... although no doubt I'll have a peek at the specs and experience of the iPhone 17 ....

Is it finally time to upgrade…12PM STILL running smooth and battery at 88. Bugs should be worked out from 15’s design and material but is it really worth it and if so, why other than just being new model.

I did finally upgrade my iPad Pro 10.5 to the new iPad 11 2024 and really was disappointed as it really wasn’t worth the money for what I use, so this one will be it for long time unless it dies.

16PM or will the 17PM really the upgrade that will be worth it and if so why?
Maybe 19 or 20!🤭

I would say the main benefit is the promotion display and the titanium build.
the camera is good but so was the 12 pro camera.
Sometimes I wonder why I upgraded tbh.

Do people think it's impressive when the say there running an older phone, with older chips, older camera, older screen, older modem, older wifi is a flex of some sort? I don't understand it.
Does the average person think it’s impressive to buy a new $1500 phone every year that they can’t afford? I don’t understand.
