I really hope apple doesn't go down the road of the the 16:9 screen's. I'd be very upset.

I don't think you have to worry. a 16:9 ratio is really unsuitable for laptop. A desktop maybe, but not a laptop.

That is quite an ignorant answer.

It isn't the aspect ratio, it is the resolution and screen size that would make the screen unsuitable for a laptop. A 16" 16:9 screen would be almost identical to a 15" screen only wider. That wouldn't be unsuitable.

It would be unsuitable for me. Perhaps I should have clarified that. I don't want a wider laptop, I want more narrow. The way I picture it, and have seen on 16:9 laptops, there is so much space between the edges of the keyboard and the edges of the case. I hate that.

So you're not a fan of the current MacBook Pro's that have a huge speaker grill going from the edge of the keyboard to the edge of the casing? Even though the speakers are not that size?

Correct! Which is why I have the more narrow MacBook.

Then it just proves that it isn't the aspec ratio that causes that, it is just the screen size.
Let me bring you back to the original discussion. A 16:9 aspect ratio is unsuitable for me. That ratio will either widen the laptop (which I hate) or shorten the screen (which I would also hate). Keeping the current aspect ratio of the current MacBook line would keep the machine's dimension relatively the same.

So to sum up, any laptop bigger than 13" you will hate.

I'm in the same boat, although I personally prefer 15" screens to 13". Some people just can't understand that others value their vertical space.

I wonder when we're going to be told the way to go is one-line terminal...

So, a 16:9, 16:10 and 4:3 ratio comparison (image source: Wikipedia). All are fine:

Edit: 1st one on the top left is 16:9 ratio, the top right one is 16:10 ratio and the bottom one is 4:3 ratio.

So, a 16:9 to 16:10 comparison (source: Wikipedia). Both are fine:

I see a big difference. And the problem is, the difference actually matters more on smaller screen. Simply because one of the dimensions becomes too small. I look at MB or MBA and it seems smallish; I look at an old 12" Fujitsu and it's fine, though could use a higher resolution. I used to think 19" displays were an overkill, but that was when they were 4:3 - I like 22" or 23" now. It really depends on size.

I like 4:3 ratio the best though. They should have kept that ratio.

4:3 is too square to me. 16:9 doesn't feel tall enough for a laptop. I think I def. like 16:10 the most.

Sorry, but I'm not going to continue beating a dead horse: I don't like 16:9 and you want to make love to it. We're not going to convince each other differently.

Haha, not exactly the best metaphor but ok. I'm just suming up your reason for wanting 16:9 - nothing to do with visible screen size, just that you don't want space between the keys and the side of the screen, or a "wide" laptop.
