Ughhhhhhhhhh...I get why they keep it. Gotta have a "Macbook" model but not call it the Macbook because the Pro name sells a lot more units...but gooooooood this machine is so pointless. The design is absolutely outdated and terrible and the laptop is the odd one out in the Apple Silicon lineup. I wouldn't be mad if it was just called the Macbook but noooooooo

Can't we just a Macbook SE instead? We could use a Macbook under $1000 to kill those really bad cheap Windows laptops once and for all.
Outdated design? Probably. Terrible? I don’t agree. It’s definitely a better design than most of the fancy, attention-grabbing laptop selection of today. Not even talking about internal design.

The design may be old, but it looks wayyyy better than the current MacBook Pros. The only thing the 13 inch model "needs" is a bezel reduction.
It’s called product segmentation. Don’t like the look? You’ll probably like the MacBook Air.

This is the only model I prefer so far because the latter model have fugly notch. Honestly it would be perfect if have four TB ports like earlier Intel model. TB can be transformed into any connection and I dont use HDMI. All my monitor are either DP or USB-C with DP alt mode.

Also for portable machine the form factor is perfect. Lightweight and slim compared with boxy 14 and 16 model, M2 is quite powerful with active cooling. If I need more extra processing power, I resort to my desktop Mac Studio and 2019 Mac Pro.

Stopped reading right there... you might be a developer, but definitely not a professional one, because if you indeed were earning your money this way, you wouldn't wanna piss off your clients, who mostly just don't have any USB-C connectors for their TVs or projectors. I mean, you can pass on "such people", but again, then you're definitely not money oriented, hence not professional...
you think you won't need a USB-C Hub for the new macbook pro because of HDMI?
I met client offices that still had VGA (beamer + monitors)!!

The only reason this computer still exists is so Apple has something to sell in large volume to businesses with the "Pro" moniker slapped on the front (so employees don't complain they don't have the pro), but still be competitive to the Lenovos and Dells these businesses are buying in the Air price range. An older gen body with current gen chip is the perfect laptop for business tbh, but if they called it the MacBook SE no business would buy it so they leave the Pro branding there. And it leaves the newer parts other than the chip available for personal consumers, keeping stock levels up on both ends.

AirPlay? i can be wrong, please tell me what I’m missing. Obviously my machine doesn’t do the heavy workload, we use cloud for that. Is that wrong? Honestly I wouldn’t buy the new MacBook pro just for having the sd port, my father used that, I just can’t sorry.

13-inch MacBook Pro should adopt 13-inch MacBook Air design, but with a fan. They can name it MacBook Fans Air.

Macbook Air Max. o_O

I think it is time to drop the "Pro" moniker on this bad boy.
As long as they keep the Touch Bar and update the hardware, they can call it what the like 😊
Although I agree, it's not a pro, should just be, MacBook 13 inch & MacBook 15 inch, the air stays as is, as do the pro models

Apple loves these devices that amortize existing investments to an extreme degree. There was a non-retina “MacBook Pro” that hung around in the lineup without changes from 2012-2016. I can only imagine what the profit margins were on that thing by the end of its lifecycle.

I was thinking about this but I feel like it wouldn't make much sense for this to be the MacBook and the larger upcoming 15-inch one to be a MacBook Air
I suspect the Air will stay as the entry level, the 15 will be MacBook 15" and MacBook 13" hopefully Touch Bar will be an option on both, although I'm still likely to go for the M3 Pro 14" because everything is just much better on it

The only way I can see this making sense is if they’re bringing back a two pound laptop like the 2015 MacBook, but now with Pro specs. That’d be neat. The M2 13” Pro is already a strange machine in the line up, but maybe there’s a larger audience for the Touch Bar than I think. I’ve had one for a couple of years now, and never warmed up to it.
I like the Touch Bar , much better than function keys, for me 😊

The hardware just needs an update like the Air got, keep the fan and the Touch Bar as an option, it makes a difference to lower tier pros and at $1400 is a nice middle step, between the air and the 14' pro.
Just call it MacBook 13" along with the new MacBook 15" 😊

I think there are 2 suitable updates for a next gen 13" MBP

1: drop the touchbar and maybe the fan, add the M3 and sell for $999, replacing the M1 MBA
2: Add the lowest M3 Pro chip, maintain 8 GB / 256 GB and sell for $1499

Personally I favour option 2 as this makes it more of a Pro machine and good for people that just need the extra CPU power of the Pro chip but aren't bothered about ProMotion or other 14"/16" MBP niceties.

I call the 13 inch the Memebook Pro because, well, that's what it is, a meme. I have...no idea...what purpose this laptop serves. I mean...it has an actual heatsink and...hey it has the touch bar...but that's it! When you spec it out, you might as well just get a 14 inch Macbook Pro at that point.
The 14 inch doesn't have a Touch Bar and as far as specking it out, the same can be said for the air.
Whilst the Touch Bar maybe pointless to you and the fan, it isn't to everybody!
What it does need is a price of no more than $1450 for 16gb Ram with 512gb memory and it will fly off the shelves

Personally, if I were Apple I'd drop the 13 inch MacBook Pro and drop the "air" from MacBook Air. It would clean up the lineup and branding I think.
Yeah they might as well, since they already dropped the Air’s characteristic ultraminimalist tapered form. If they actually came out with a Mac Tablet as it appears they might, that’d be a lot more appropriately named a Mac Air.
