Upgrading to 16gb/512gb - same as a base model 14” MBP - brings the price to $1700.

For an extra $300, the 14” has a bigger and far better display with smaller bezels, ports galore, better speakers, and my favorite feature of all - no Touch Bar.

I don’t know how the M2 compares to the M1 Pro. But if I really needed the M2, I’d be inclined to wait until the M2 MBA is available.

I’m sure there are some folks that the 13” M2 MBP is right for. I just don’t think there are very many.

Since only the base models seem to be available, I'm feeling more and more like the whole purpose of this machine is to get the M2 chip out quickly, into the hands of reviewers, before the M2 Air is ready.

Just curious - why are so many people offended by this model, especially when compared to the air? Because of the Touch Bar? Considering 'most' people even use the function keys, I doubt that's the reason? Because of the design? Again the design is quite beautiful and definitely looks more like a modern notebook than the M1 Pro/Max Pros! Okay perhaps the bezels.. fair enough, but Im sorry aint nothing justifying that notch they're putting on the other MacBooks. So again where is the offence coming from?

Its always the case that the base models of a Mac are more easily available. Nothing to dos with the M1 /M2 whatever. Build to order always has a delay.

At the moment I feel a little torn. Should I go for that exquisite midnight Macbook Air with 10 gpu cores or wait for a 14 inch M2 Macbook Pro?
It depends if you like the MBA. I’m more of a MacBook Pro person now. No longer in college 😝. I wish the MBA was offered in a bigger size but that’s also not even an option at the moment. It all comes down to the user preference.

Jump quick and it's only an extra $100

Hows this processor compare to the M1 options? I know its better than the original M1, but the other M1 naming is a bit confusing.

People would buy these for superior performance and superior battery life.
The battery life is slightly better than the M2 Air but you're losing MagSafe and getting an older smaller screen/ body. I guess if you needed 20 hours vs 18 hours of battery life but that's a really edge case to go for it with the downgrades in everything else.

It's almost the price of the 14" Pro but with significantly less power.

There's one good thing about it : its price did not increase, as opposed to the MBA.
Because they're probably trying to get rid of old components. The Air really didn't increase if you factor in inflation. Expecting the price of Apple products to stay the same while everyday items have skyrocketed in price isn't reasonable... I don't like it but it's life.

Yes, often a delay, but rarely (if ever) "Currently Unavailable" after the preorder date arrives.
Ya, this is pretty rare. I can't remember ever seeing a mac release without bto options.

Makes me think nobody is getting a bto M2 Air for a while which is a shame because 16gb ram is gonna be a popular upgrade.

Yeah a bit odd. Noticed if I configure 24GB RAM and 1TB storage, the BTO becomes available to buy (shipping late July) but if I want 512 GB or 2TB storage, all of a sudden I can't even place the order.

Ok, all BTO options seem available. Seeing some that ship by July 4 here in US, so not bad. Wonder why it took an extra hour for them to become available on the online store?
I just noticed that. Weird...

If someone buys this they must really love the old style or TouchBar. $300 less than a 14" MacBook Pro and probably only $100 less if you bought the 14" from B&H or Best Buy
