My advice: wait and buy the MBA or MBP14. This MBP with Touch Bar is a nonsense product on Apple lineup.
they are keeping it around to get rid of those Touch Bar panels that were left behind.

This product makes no sense considering all their lineup was revamped lol

don't understand why would anyone would order this over the 14 inch m1 mbp.

I like the new MB Air and everything, but I would actually buy this M2 Macbook Pro due to the larger battery, fan and having no notch. In the UK its £1349, so only £100 more than the MB Air M2.

14" MB Pro is £1849 so a big £550 difference to the M2 MB Pro 13.

Apple why did you have to put that notch on the M2 MB Air, just ruins an otherwise beautiful design.

Glad to see early than expected ordering available for these M2 MacBook laptops. Looking forward to the entire Mac line switching over to M2 (and then M3.)

So are you actually going buy it or just expressing your dislike for the 14". I'm genuinely curious because people always say "I would buy X" but in reality that doesn't translate to a sale. Apple learned this the hard way with the iPhone mini. If everyone who said they wanted a smaller phone bought one that thing would have been a best seller 🤣

Do yourself a favor and get this on sale for $1800 instead. Literally an extra $100 gets you a better machine in ever way.

Spending comparatively small amounts over upgrade prices on Apple products has almost always gotten you a lot more for your money (until you reach the high end). That's just how it works with upselling.

Here in Canada, I checked the trade in value of my M1 macbook pro base model I got and they said trade value 1155$ cdn which is not crazy bad i guess. But will wait for the 14" or whatever m2 comes as this m1 works for me for now.

To be fair to the iPhone mini, I think Apple made a critical mistake by deciding it should be the exact thickness of the larger phones and thus have substantially worse battery life. That's a huge negative to have for any phone, even if you'd otherwise prefer the form factor.

Where did I say I dislike the 14 MB Pro? I just stated its £550 more than this M2 MB Pro in the UK.

My 2015 MB Pro is getting long in the tooth, so im in the market to replace it, but in no real rush.

The 14" and 16" MB Pro's are probably the best laptops in the world right now, just a bit expensive that's all.

Because they're probably trying to get rid of old components. The Air really didn't increase if you factor in inflation. Expecting the price of Apple products to stay the same while everyday items have skyrocketed in price isn't reasonable... I don't like it but it's life.
If you're in Canada and you consider a 7% inflation, they increased it an additional 7%.

I think the quoted inflation rate isn't correct. They say we have 8% I think in the USA but most things like food and gas have doubled in price. I know inflation rates are about averages but I suspect with the chip shortages electronics have been hit. I bet Apple is making less money on this Air than they made on the old one a few years ago. I'm not saying feel sorry for Apple because I don't but just thinking that's why the increase.

You mentioned the notch so that is on the 14" Pro as well. Is the £550 price with the same RAM and SSD configuration?

I like the Pro but It's really too much $$$$ and overkill for my needs. The fancy screen is the only thing pushing me to it. I think the Air is the sensible choice for me. If you're considering the Pro at this point maybe wait for the M2 version.

I totally agree with you. I have absolutely no idea how it's calculated, but clearly I have less financial means that last year.

There is a segment of consumers that want the Pro badge or think that the Pro machines is better, but they don't want to spend as much money for the 14" Pro.

I know a lay consumer who actually think that iPhone Pro only works with Macbook Pro and iPad Pro (all Pro models), not with the non-Pro machines. Sometimes marketing works wonders. :D

I'm sure it will be an outstanding laptop.

But I already have an M1 MBA that meets all of my needs. And am super pleased.

Yes I would agree that it would be silly to upgrade from the M1 MBA. What I'm most excited about is MagSafe. I thought about it and I don't think it's going to be the same now we have Apple Silicon because of battery life and it has the same power on battery. With my Intel MacBook Pro I kept it plugged in but with the one I suspect it's only going to go on the charger at night maybe. It's still going to be cool but I don't think I'll be using the laptop with the MagSafe cord connected.

You're not wrong... Pro is better right? 🤣

I think that might have been the reason Apple came up with the Air name. It's not just a regular MacBook but a MacBook Air so it's upgraded. Who wants a non Pro or non Air MacBook. Marketing is weird like that.

Ah, the same configuration (16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD) makes the M2 13 MB Pro £1749, so £100 less than the base 14". This is a different scenario altogether though, and of course makes it almost a no brainer to get the 14" model in this case.

But I would be happy with the specs of the base M2 13 MBP and at £1349, i think is fairly reasonable.

Regarding the notch, yeah I'm not a fan, I could live with it on a Macbook, but if I had the option to get a model with no notch, id rather opt for that personally. Hence the 13" MBP ticks all the boxes for me.

I just noticed that. Weird...

If someone buys this they must really love the old style or TouchBar. $300 less than a 14" MacBook Pro and probably only $100 less if you bought the 14" from B&H or Best Buy
13" MBP with > 16 GB RAM ~1.7k
14" MBP with > 16 GB RAM ~2.4k

Don't know about others, but I'd gladly take the $700 in savings.

I really dislike that this Mac still exists. It's a reminder of how awful the Touch Bar was.
Ya, I had such high hopes for the Touch Bar when I got my 2019 16" Pro. It's been nothing but frustrating for the 3 years I've owned it. I had to switch it back to the standard function keys since I kept accidentally grazing it and messing up whatever I was working on.

As Apple has found out (and hopefully automakers eventually do as well) touch buttons are not an adequate substitution for physical buttons when you trying to use it without looking.

I'm guessing you're not in the USA? Here it's $1,999 for the 14" MBP with 16 GB/ 512 SSD. We have the same price for the 13" MBP at $1,699. It's only a $300 difference here
