To each their own. I am a heavy user of the function row and I greatly prefer the touch bar over the function keys. Glad they are keeping this in the lineup. Apple is not forcing you to buy it!
Nah, I'll take a hard key any time. If they ever decide to put OLEDs in an individual key - that's a different story.

Very devilishly clever from Apple to start the sale of the new technologically superior Air one month later.

Do you think its because Apple wants to clear as many of the less desirable M2 MBP first?

8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, old and small display, old design, lack of MagSafe and ports... it's definitely a Pro machine! 😄

Just get the Air when it comes out in July then.

I’m looking for no touch bar, active cooling, a bigger battery. And a “pro” model if that’s what you have to choose to get 3-4 usb/tb ports. Apple used to offer this for under $2k but now the expensive 14” is the only option, and a bit overkill. M2 MBA is the cheaper option, but requires more compromises.

The only laptop that could feel superior is the 15' MacBook Air. Rest of the line-up is awkward and each has its own pluses and minuses.
The new MBA doesn't have a fan and the speakers probably will sound tiny and has an ugly notch.
The 13 MBP is the sexiest and has a decent battery but has an outdated design and touchbar.
The 14MBP is more powerful but it looks like a 90s metal briefcase that you don't want to be seen with.

Interesting—in the US all RAM/SSD configs ship in 5-6 days, except all those with 24 GB, which are 5-6 weeks.

I do wonder how many of these they will sell.
The M1 version was Apple second best selling laptop. Perhaps this will not reach that level but there seem to be a number of people that want what the 13” MBP offers.

Strange - must be corporate buyers.
Found the Air to be the more attractive alternative to this one.

Replacing my 2015 iMac with this machine. Not a fan of the notch, I like the touch bar.

The screen size difference between this and the new MBA is 64 vertical pixels (except where the notch is) and 0 horizontal pixels. I suppose in some applications that might be meaningfully larger, but I doubt most people will notice the difference in any real world application.

I do wish it had MagSafe though…

UK education store isn't working when trying to view pricing etc?

"The page you’re looking for can’t be found."

Just curious - why are so many people offended by this model, especially when compared to the air? Because of the Touch Bar? Considering 'most' people even use the function keys, I doubt that's the reason? Because of the design? Again the design is quite beautiful and definitely looks more like a modern notebook than the M1 Pro/Max Pros! Okay perhaps the bezels.. fair enough, but Im sorry aint nothing justifying that notch they're putting on the other MacBooks. So again where is the offence coming from?
Only a fringe minority of very vocal loud users are "offended" by Apple's product lineup at any given time during the year. No-one else cares, they just buy what they need and move on with their lives.

Very surprised these are selling out. Apple product, sure, but how many purchasers of this $1,299.00 machine buy it because of the M2? Why not just buy the Air? Weird product. Enjoy your TouchBar and 10% performance boost because fans.

Do yourself a favor and get this on sale for $1800 instead. Literally an extra $100 gets you a better machine in ever way.

Sure, but people buying the 13" M1/M2 MBP are buying it for the TouchBar and no other reason.

Took some time for Apple to open orders for BTO variants. Wondering whether it was due to part shortages. Seems like it was due to some error on Apple website.

What you mean surprised? You could argue that the MBA is a weird device, paying so much money for a laptop that thermal throttles.

It was cool when the M1 MBA was cheap, but the M2 MBA is no longer cheap.

People buy it because the computer is actually properly designed for the M2 chip and better battery life. Computers shouldn't be thermal throttling.

I'd argue that if you want a MacBook Air, it is better to wait for the M3 at 3nm from TSMC which might actually solve the thermal throttling issue. The M2 is still on the 5nm process.

Do you really think the people who buy these entry level laptops experience throttling? Lot of Air customers editing multiple streams of 4K? Lol.

MacBook Airs are bought by students most of the time and they can easily make the MacBook Air thermal throttle. If someone does an assignment for school and has to do hours of simulations in Matlab for example.

Is that the problem faced by MOST Air customers? You can't point to the exception and call it the rule. An Air is designed for the lowest common denominator customer, not people running Matlab.
