At least I can now recommend the MacBook and not feel like crap when I see them using that ugly screen. The display from the older White MBs was horrid and even the new uMBs weren't that nice. Here's to nicer displays on all Mac laptops.

Huh??? Not sure what you were looking at but my old MB (w/ Firewire, remember those?) has a much much better screen than the current unibody models. I was set to buy a new one and there was no way i was going to deal with that horrid screen. Considered the Mirrorbook Pro, but that screen is more reflective than ever.

You shouldn't spout off about things you don't actually know. Or maybe try rubbing the sleep out of yer eyes?

Interesting if true. I returned a MB for the Air and love the screen - line free.;) Now if they could only ditch that glass....

The UMB with a good screen and without glass would be my perfect computer!!! It's quite good as it is, but the glass really does annoy me.

My opinion is just like the other guys. I really hate the plastic MB screens, it would be a perfect notebook for me (due to price and Firewire), but the screen is too dim for me to use.

The original alu MB screen may not have been perfect, but it was much better than the plastic MB screen IMO. It has better viewing angle and is much brighter with the LED backlight.

So he is not spouting off about things he doesn't actually know, nor does he need to rub the sleep out of his eyes. OTOH it is just his opinion, I happen to agree 100% with him. Obviously different people view these screens differently though, I 100% respect your opinion.

I thought the original alu MB screens were fine, if not quite as good as the MBA, so it's nice they upgrade. Now if only they would upgrade the white MB screen (I would be happy with the original alu MB LED-backlit screen.) I personally prefer matte over glossy, but for me personally the most important factor is a nice LED backlight (less strain for me and the conditions I use my computers.)

This is not new news on the forums here at MR. Several members have reported what appeared to be better quality screens on the uMBs. At least this confirms the suspicions and will quiet the naysayers that said it wasn't true. Apple is propably still using the old displays for the updated WhiteBook but it would be nice if they used these newer displays in it too.

Yep. This MacRumors thread about the "new" uMB screens started back at the end of April.

Okay, I guess...

I've got the older screen on mine and it's much improved when calibrated to TV gamma (the blacks are blacker). I also don't make a habit of making my screen "dark" (rarely watch video)...the "brightness" of OS X (lots of white-background windows and such) looks great. The glass makes the screen seemingly sharper and definitely brighter than that of my old Rev. A white MacBook. The vertical viewing angle is pretty terrible.

Oh well...I'll upgrade in a few years when there's a significant processor bump and better battery tech (non-removable battery = 2X battery life?).

Ah yes, MacRumors. Where you can express your opinion and expect to get an extraordinarily snotty response such as this one.

How about respecting someone else's viewpoint and reducing your attitude?

Prolly matters not

but I placed an order on 3 April and have the newer screen. Wonder how far back the new screens go?

i have model 9C8B, and it too is below apple

i've seen some pretty horrible macbook unibody screens, and mine is no different in terms of blacks and viewing angle.

don't the macbook air and macbook pro have better viewing angle on them besides having better black? would be nice to see (or at least hear reports of) this better screen's angle before jumping to conclusions.

funny i just bought a rev A refurb, and they replaced it with a SSD and the screen difference was amazing, much better then the first

These stealth upgrades are one reason why I hate Apple.

You must hate every company then. Apple often uses more than one supplier just like every other company does. I don't think this is an upgrade, but merely another supplier or version of the same part. Just like when they switch hard drives. I doubt every iMac model of the same generation has the same exact hard drive.

I know. Damn these companies that upgrade there machines. I hate when that happens!

Seriously, Apple uses several vendors for just about every commodity part on all of their products. They never promise a specific brand or model screen, hard drive, memory, etc, etc. The specs list resolution and screen size, hard drive size, and amount of included RAM. You get exactly what you pay for. If you get a better version screen that is a bonus.

I dunno if they quietly upgraded or just started including different screens. I know on my early 2008 MBP I had 9C81, LG screen, and it was washed out. I got the panel since replaced and the replacement was 9C80, AUO. Same thing with that article pertaining to uMB, one screen is LG the other is AUO.

I wouldn't be too worried about it one way or the other.

if it took 2 months to notice...i say ho hum to this upgrade...it dont matter....you dont notice it day to day.

I wonder if it will come close to the screen on my GMA 950 core2duo macbook. It is miles better than my friends GMA 3100 model(brighter but much poorer viewing angle, poor color, and a visible checked pattern(gaps between pixels)), and better than the Alu Macbook(poor viewing angles, and not as nice looking colour) i seen in the Apple Store.

I just bought a brand new 13" MacBook (2.4ghz with illuminated keyboard) last week and the model of screen in mine is the 9CA8.

And compared to my old 13" MacBook (2.16ghz with black finish) it is STUNNING.
