I know. Damn these companies that upgrade there machines. I hate when that happens!
What's really baffling is that at the time of writing this about a third of the votes on the story are negative. Maybe it's just angry old screen MB users downvoting

Ah yes, MacRumors. Where you can express your opinion and expect to get an extraordinarily snotty response such as this one.
How about respecting someone else's viewpoint and reducing your attitude?
My mom just bought a macbook yesterday. 2.4 unibody. It has the 9CA5 display. Is that a good one?
Very interesting... what a great find by Computerworld!
Hmm. I got my unibody MacBook at the very end of March, and it appears I have 9C8A (not 9CA8, which is what Computerworld identifies as the new screen).
EDIT: Running the Terminal command mentioned in the Computerworld post indicated that 9C8A is a Samsung LTN133AT09 display:

This stinks! I bought my Macbook online as part of the "Black Friday" promo, so I never got to see the screen prior to purchase. I use (used currently going for a HDD repair!!) my Mac all the time for movies, and watching films that are largely black is horrendous (Dark Knight etc.)
In their original video Apple promoed this machine as being specifically suitable for watching films - showcasing Iron Man if I recall.
About a month or so after purchase it was bugging me so much I even went to Apple Store Bluewater to ask if something was wrong with the screen. I was initially told that the Macbook had exactly the same QUALITY screen as the MacPros. I told the Apple rep that one of key marketing statements concerning the new 17" MacBook Pro was that it had the highest colour gamut of any notebook display - therefore there could not be parity in quality. Eventually he admitted I was probably right.
Needless to say I asked if I could upgrade to a MacBook Pro 15" (Paying additional difference in cost) as I never would have purchased the 13" with this screen - it ruins the entire experience of an otherwise exceptional computer.
I was told this was not possible... so until I can buy a pro next time, I'm stuck with a MacBook that sucks for one of the main purposes I purchased it for... THANKS APPLE FOR FINALLY DOING SOMETHING THIS FAULT ONCE I'VE SPENT OVER £1150 ON A PIECE OF TRASH!
K, some people say this difference is caused by different suppliers and others say it is an upgrade. What is it? If I buy a new MacBook will I get the new screen or is it just being lucky or not? Anyone knows?
Thanx it shows that my screen model as 00009C8C by doing the
System Preferences/Displays/Color/Open Profile/#13
ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6
It was noticed in April actually by many forum members. It took MR 2 months to report because they need evidence before making claims.if it took 2 months to notice...i say ho hum to this upgrade...it dont matter....you dont notice it day to day.
...Apple probably likes the new supplier and their screen, so they'll stick with them or continue to improve the screens in the future.
