It's funny reading comments about how the 13 Pro is so big, etc. I had the 12 Pro (same size) and switched to a 13 Pro Max, and the 12 Pro / 13 Pro felt like a minuature phone in comparison . . . and I don't have any comfort issues with the Max size (and I'd say I have medium-sized hands). I don't think I could ever go back to the smaller size phone again.

When I upgraded from the 11 Pro to the 12 Pro, I panicked and returned it for a Mini. That ended up going to the wife and I got another 12 Pro which I got used to almost immediately. The added weight of the 13 Pro is nothing at all to me after considering the massive boost in battery life.

Used iPhone X for 4 years. When I got the 13 Pro immediately felt the weight. It bothered me for about a week, how heavy it was holding. After a couple weeks I didn't notice it anymore. My wrist and finger muscles probably compensated. Used to it and enjoying now.

Doesn’t seem big to me. The max yes. If anything the 13 pro is kinda small.
Actually, the Pro Max is not that big of a difference compared to the Plus iPhones, dimension wise. But the 13 Pro is quite a jump in size compared to the non Plus iPhones of the old. The X/Xs/11 Pro imo is the “better” size, but seems like Apple wanted to streamline (cheaper for them) their production and make the 12 Pro/13 Pro the same size as the regular 12/13.

My wife went from 6s to 13 Mini. The 13 Mini gives a taller screen, but does feel more chunky than the 6s, I think because of the squarer edges. She is very happy with the battery life.
Although I have a Pro Max, I can appreciate both sizes. The 13 Mini is neat and compact, whereas the Pro Max has a more useful screen size for some apps.
The two things I would really miss in the 13 Mini are: no "telephoto" camera (I use this a lot on the Pro Max, as the other lenses are only wide angle), and a screen that is too small (IMO) for navigation apps (like GAIA GPS)

Hi all,

I have had an iPhone 7 for the past 5ish years now and have absolutely loved it. It started failing on me Christmas Day and I decided it was time. I ordered the 13 Pro and it came today. All the improvements are nice like a WAY better camera and nicer display but I actually have hand strain from reaching around the display with how big and heavy the thing is. It just seems so big... Did anyone else have issues at first and just get used to it over time? It really is a two handed device to me which I am not used to. I am thinking about going to a 13 mini. Any thoughts?
Embrace the size and girth of the 13pro and enjoy what Apple has to offer .

The flagship keeps getting heavier and larger…I hope they reevaluate this direction. The 13 Pro is 17% heavier than the X, which was already a big leap from the 8.

I love the mini enough to miss out on the slight camera upgrade and 120hz. My personal preference is aluminum vs. stainless as well.
I’ve admittedly changed my stance on iPhone 13 vs iPhone 13 Pro: a majority of people won’t notice a discernible difference in everyday usage. It is worth the extra money for those that want the telephoto lens or the stainless steel body and it holds its resale value, but otherwise interacting with the phone is basically the same.

I do also think the aluminum build is fantastic. Stainless steel looks nice on first impression but gets covered in fingerprints quickly and anecdotally I noticed more pocket lint built up on iPhone 13 Pro vs iPhone 13 Mini.

Aluminum vs stainless steel? Most people use a case anyway

I finally got a 13 pro max after my 7+ was dying. For me it took a while to get used to the weight (so heavy), like a month or so I was contemplating about getting the 13 or 13 pro for something lighter, but 13 pro max is so fast and the battery is so great I don’t think I want to trade it anymore now.

Good case might help, not sure if you use case with yours though. My earlier cases were a little bulky but I’ve since got slimmer cases and it helped.

I agree with everyone on this thread!

It's funny, when the 13's first came out, I had this debate as well. And I'm STILL having it, because I knew I wasn't going to get a new phone until after the holidays. Well here we are, the holidays are just about over...and I'm still not sure.

I was on an SE 2016 until 2020, when I got an SE 2020. That is the largest and heaviest phone I've ever had! So I figured I would get the 13 mini, which is nice and light and small but with the bigger screen than I was used to. BUT...I really wanted that telephoto. I've got posts that go into this in much more detail, but basically I would like to shift some of the things I do with my DSLR to my phone. To do that effectively, I would need that telephoto! Which would mean the larger, heavier, 13 pro.

So I did what any sane person would do (*cough*) and taped a heavy coin to the back of my SE 2020 to simulate the weight! I used it that way for about a month before my case began to come apart, lol. The weight difference WAS noticeable (though this was an imperfect test: that weight difference would be more distributed over a larger area than the coin), but after a while I got used to it, mostly. I had pretty much decided to get the pro.

Then...

Two months ago I was in an auto accident, and suffered a badly broken wrist. OK, this is temporary. But I'm still in a brace, and my motion is still limited though getting better...and I find using my phone two-handed (which is how I've always used my phones, even the smaller ones) is more uncomfortable than it used to be. Temporary! I hope! I don't want to think about the alternative!

But it did have me thinking about getting the 13 mini instead. For me the tradeoff is the weight and size, which would bother me a little bit every time I picked up the phone, or giving up the telephoto, which would bother me a lot but only occasionally. Now with the wrist injury, increase the bother on the weight and size (temporarily! temporarily!). I had decided to forego it, and get the mini, and perhaps try one of the external telephotos for phones.

But...

The last time I was in the Apple Store I handled the regular 13 as well, and it's comparatively light, too, at least compared to the pro. And a bigger screen. And it still fits in my pocket just fine. Maybe I'd be happy with that as a middle ground, and maybe I'd be really happy with that.

Except...

I'm used to Touch ID phones. We can discuss whether Touch ID or Face ID is better, but the real point for this post is that I am used to the bottom of the screen being up *here* and not *way down here*. Even the mini will represent new mechanics for (TEMPORARY! PLEASE TEMPORARY!) one-handed use, just to go back to the home screen. That will be tough enough on the mini, and would be even tougher on the regular 13.

So, there it is, as clear as mud. I still don't know which one I will get, and I am setting myself up for buyer's remorse no matter WHICH phone I'd buy!

I downsized to the 12 mini over Thanksgiving to use with a second line. I'm now considering putting the main line on it as well and using the mini for both. The small size is a nice especially with a larger screen than an SE with it having no bezels. And the price I got it for over Black Friday sealed the deal.

I'm one of those crazy people who uses two phones, a max and a mini. Both have their specific advantages in different situations.
I love the max for real tasks and media consumption, but prefer the mini as a music player or workout companion because it fits my pockets. I also take the mini to concerts or date nights when I don't want to carry a big phone because I know I don't have to do anything with it.
I also uses different sizes of iPads and Macs around the house for different purposes. So having different sizes of phones doesn't seem so strange for me.

So, what did you do? I had the 13 PM and that was huge, ended up with the 13 Pro, that's perfect. Personally I can't see the small text too well on the mini... and the camera is not good in low light! I'd stick to the 13 Pro all the way! It's the perfect balance!

I got used to the weight of it but still don't like how large the phone is. I'm young and have good eyes so a smaller screen doesn't bother me. I'm returning the 13 Pro and switching back to my iPhone 7 with a new battery. Doesn't feel worth the $1100 for better battery life and camera to me, on top of not liking other things about the phone.

You can’t make phone calls from an iPad alone. Still need an iPhone.
It’s possible if you use VoIP providers as you phone number. There are still downsides though like lack of privacy (only speaker phone unless you use a headset), and no vibration motor in an iPad.

Good decision imo. Save the money. We all should be more frugal, especially if the latest and greatest don’t actually bring more value to us (it only gives value to Apple’s revenue).

13 Mini. It is the only phone I can do everything on holding with one hand and I have a 9 inch spread from tip of pinky to thumb with my fingers outstretched. You will never get used to the size, if the weight is the only thing you are used to at this point.
