Really hope they also release a less expensive prosumer display, somewhere around 30". I'd toss both in my shopping cart.
I certainly hope not. Time to put USB type A in the rear view mirror. Everything should be USB-4 or TB-3 if not TB-4.With a USB-C only iMac freshly revealed, I just don’t buy they’re going to bring back any ports.
I believe the new iMac also has two that are Thunderbolt-capable. But … Apple is so obsessed with minimalism for the sake of minimalism, bringing back anything to add flexibility (and fewer dongles) will be a surprise. With a USB-C only iMac freshly revealed, I just don’t buy they’re going to bring back any ports.
Probably late October - November.Ugh "second half of this year" is so vague. Wish I knew at least what quarter it was in.
Could get announced at WWDC, and ship at the end of the year, but could also be a Sept/Oct media event. But yeah, not likely anybody will actually have one before the end of the year.Probably late October - November.
They have to ship within a few months, otherwise it will affect sales of existing models. For this reason, I'm thinking it's either a WWDC announcement with shipping late July/August or a Sept/Oct event, shipping Oct/Nov.Could get announced at WWDC, and ship at the end of the year, but could also be a Sept/Oct media event. Still... would be kinda awesome if they did turn up a little sooner!
I'd be in for 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD. I do realize it's quite possible we won't see higher RAM options, but it would be great if we did. I've managed on 16GB in my 16" MBP, but it does hit the wall sometimes.
Sounds like you have a $4k Mac lined up. Hope you get it.Could get announced at WWDC, and ship at the end of the year, but could also be a Sept/Oct media event. But yeah, not likely anybody will actually have one before the end of the year.

Haha... yeah, true. But I blew that much on my 2016 MBP which was red hot garbage—worst Apple computer I've ever owned (and that's since the early 90s). I think, to their credit, they learned a lot from that whole nightmare. The 16" MBP was a start in the right direction, and hopefully this year's models will continue the trend. That is an excellent point about the soldered RAM etc. This time could very well be the 'golden age for Mac.Haha... yeah, true. As a side-note; it occurred to me that the whole soldered-in RAM thing that started a few years ago may have been a kind of transitional step for them, since the Apple Silicon machines don't have—and can't have—separate RAM at all. They needed their laptop buyers to get used to the idea... just a thought.
So you are going to plug it into an Ethernet wire, but not plug it into a power socket? How often is *that* scenario necessary?
in a desktop maybe yeah - I still don't think Apple will go anywhere near 300w in a desktop processor either though - even my Ryzen 5900X doesn't touch that and it's not exactly power efficent like ARM is.And I will be disappointed if a 100W Chip is all they have for iMac 27" or Mac Pro. I expect something more. ( Top Spec should be pushing to 300W )
if you are using wired ethernet, then you would have access to mains power in almost 100% of cases I would expect. I can’t think of a single location that I have used with wired ethernet that doesn’t also have power sockets nearby.would be nice to have mag safe enet but they won't as this has to travel on battery.
I also like the idea of Ethernet via the main power connection. Great for when you're based at a desk. Less clutter. But personally I'd like both options. Give us back the Ethernet port on the side of the Pro machines. If there's space for a MagSafe, then maybe there's space for a UTP port, too?
I have to admit that I'd love it if they could find some kind of compromise between getting rid of the Touch Bar and just going back to normal function keys. I use the Touch Bar here and there (for volume/brightness, and occasionally in audio apps), and I use the function keys here and there (when working at home, on my extended keyboard), but neither is a must-have for me.
Haha... yeah, agreed about the lack of tactile feedback. In fact, I only ever used the Touch Bar for interactions that functioned as a slider—never for button functionality. They could have actual keys with programmable displays. I’d be fine with that. But I refuse to accept that any “compromise” that involves any sort of non-tactile, non-haptic, not-useable-without-looking-at-it monstrosity is anything other than a plague infecting the machine.

I think is reasonable to expect that a portable would have significantly different design expectations (e.g. rounder edges), because it won’t just be sitting idle on a physical desktop most of the time. After seeing the design aesthetic of the new iMacs, I'm prepared to be disappointed with the new MBPs.
Agree. Fortunately, I am single and childless.I'll buy a 14" in a heartbeat no matter what it costs. Even trade my kid for one. Throw in my wife too!
At the same time as the iPhone? Not likely.More like September
