Nothing makes you want a USB-A port more than when you client hands you their stuff on a USB stick and you spend a minute in front of them rustling through your bag looking for a USB-A to USB-C dongle. Seems like an hour.

And no it isn’t a good idea if I want repeat business, to lecture them on why they should have their stuff on a USB-C stick, on a cloud service or use an Apple device so I can airdrop it.

Given that Apple is dropping the touch bar, I'm thinking they may surprise us with the dynamic backlight keycaps recently revealed as an Apple patent. It would allow one keyboard for all languages, app-specific keys, and even a special "security keyboard" specifically for entering credentials (just a wild thought). This would be considerably more versatile than the touch bar. Keys could be different colors. Color coded shortcuts for writing software, etc.
This.

1 cable (USB-C) is just a silly dream.

What do you do when you need to charge 2 things overnight? Stay awake to wait for one to finish charging?

USB-C charging remains a hot mess. Cables compatibility are all over the place.

Magsafe, while proprietary and dedicated, is such a good charging solution. Snaps in place, breaks away when tripped. Green light when full, amber when charging. Brilliant!
Tbh not having to worry about which cable you have just grabbed would be desirable and it is already in iPP so why not iPhone too?. I guess it would not help the MFI market much though. I would like the option of USB4 charging and MagSafe. Best of both worlds.

The MagSafe charging functionality is expected to allow for faster charging speeds than are available with USB-C

I’d be stunned if Apple was going to supply a power supply with more than 100 W for the new MacBook Pro’s, so how exactly will MagSafe be faster than the current USB see standard the tops out at 100 watts?

The current 16 inch model basically has the maximum battery size that you can fly with, and with the new chips using less power than the current Intel ones the only benefit would be potentially faster charging speeds, but they’re hardly a problem now with the machine off.

You are not prepared

Last thing I want is MagSafe. I have an LG Ultrafine display that has nothing but 4 USBC Thunderbolt ports, ONE of which is the cable that connects the external display to my current MBPro and charges it at the same time. Adding Magsafe means I would have to plug TWO cables in to the MBP every time I come back to the office. MagSafe is nice, but not if it adds to the headache of multiple cables to do what one cable does now.

I'll be getting a 16 when it's announced, but I expect well into third quarter if not 4th. If they return to MagSafe, I hope we can also still use USB-C. I really enjoy the ability to charge from either side depending on classroom/coffee shop I happen to be in (assuming we ever.. ya know, go outside again).

I agree. Initially, and continue, to miss the Magsafe. Yet, I have become addicted to the ability to charge on either left or right side of the computer. AndI hope Apple finds a way to make the USB ports longer lasting: my cables seemingly fall out with little more than a "puff of wind".

Happy to see the Touch Bar go. For me, and what I need, it was step back from the physical function keys.

oh no an extra cable, what has the world come to.

This seems to be an awesome move if everything comes true. But there is Apple and it took them 5-6 years to react to what the customers cried out for so many years. And there will still be soldered SSD and this is still a no-go for lots of professional users.

I‘m wondering that OpenGL is still available with Big S - but it‘ll be removed and Vulkan will never be introduced. So long story short - Apple is not a reliable Partner. Apple does what Apple wants to do and this may be really bad for customers who build their business on Mac.
- Remove all ports
- Remove upgradeability (while calling themselves environmental friendly)
- Remove XServe
- Remove MacPro
- Remove Nvidia
- Remove OpenGL
- Remove Final Cut
- Remove Aperture
- Remove keyboard (replaced with dysfunctional butterfly version)
- Remove „younameit“

So as an Apple User you have to get used to the fact that every year something is going to die. And there is no LTS version of macOS that gives you freedom and safety for a long period of time like - 8 years.

So this is the reason while I saw lots of professional users - developers - running away from Apple in the last years. Apple has become a toy company and Apple makes a lot of money following this path. But developers are happy with their 32/64 Core AMD workstations and professional Thinkpads. Would be nice if Apple returns but I doubt this.

why more ports? if you need more ports, the MacPro has all the ports you need. Portable Mac laptops are supposed to be light and thin. Easier for traveling.

magsafe is the most annoying thing on my 2015 macbook, falls off all the time, and now our new cat loves to unplug it all the time

and as for the touchbar, why not have both? function keys + touchbar

Your last question is quite easy to answer. Apple collects a lot of user data and they noticed that no one is using the TouchBar (no one equals less than 20 percent in Apple terminology) while 80 percent miss easy access to volume and brightness using functions keys. Additionally developers missed ESC and function keys a lot.

What would you to do improve customer experience? Apple thought that users will get used to it 5 years ago, but it turned out to be the 2015 version of the Hockey puck mouse.

Now that they acknowledge that quite a few design changes in recent MBPs were not wise, I'd suggest to also remove the feature of automatic boot at lid open: this is one of the most annoying features in my 2018 MBP... if I had wanted an "always up" device, I would have chosen an iPad, not a MBP. A MBP is a computer, and the user should be in charge of when to power it up and shut it down. This autoboot stuff turns you less in control and feeling you are a sort of guest rather than a user.

I like all that rumors (maybe keep both TB and FK) but I dislike the release time, I want it earlier. Third Q is from late june to late sept, iPhone time. When do you really thing it will be release

Pretty sure they are just waiting on physics to be revised

I think at this point people will accept a small bump to house the camera z-depth in exchange for decent webcam.

And if they are putting in a whole array for face ID, people will accept a tiny ridge.
