Can't wait to upgrade my awful 2015 MBP. Pre-touch bar, but also has the terrible old clunky thunderbolt ports with virtually no decent accessories.

If true about no Touchbar and the return of Magsafe it's definately an improvement. Still not enough to get me to replace my 15" 2015 Macbook Pro.

Don't care in the slightest about weight or "thinness" with larger screen notebooks. I want an SD card reader, IO ports, competent GPU (largely to scale down Apple's absurdly large and wasteful UI size), and a good AR screen coating.

I do *not* want a touchscreen.

I don't think you need to worry about a touch screen. Craig has all basically said in not so many words that Apple has no intention of doing that.

I noticed there has been an uptick in resales of Early 2020, 2019 and earlier Intel MacBook Pro’s on Facebook Marketplace; especially the 16 inch MacBook Pro. Hmm, I wonder why?
Probably due to many factors such as ...

1) People outside of MR not being as informed as the regular tech nerds found here
2) Even though Apple had a good financial year in 2020, many people are still struggling and don''t have the Apple budget they once did, or never had one to begin with.
3) Not everyone needs the high end models
4) And some need Intel machines for specific work related reasons.

I heard a rumor that a standalone keyboard with touch bar will be released in 2021...

Well I guess 2021 is the year we'll know if Apple is truly committed to it and if it's not gimmick, it has to be brought to desktop Macs, otherwise the rumors about it being removed makes sense.

Wow the Mac is Back!!!!!!!

Everything I hated about my 15inch MacBook Pro is now fixed. I hated the keyboard, Touch Bar, removal of MagSafe and lack of usable ports.

I have a 16inch Mac Back Pro now, love the keyboard, still have the useless Touch Bar. Day one pre-order for the new 16inch. Will make a good partner for my M1 Mac mini

I can gladly say, this is the first time ever I really hope all rumors turn out to be true. Looking forward to these although I'm sure Tim will pull some kind of penny pinching sadly (maybe on RAM, storage, webcam, thermals, etc)

Nail it Apple!!
Penny pinching? Seems to me like you are the one who is doing that and not Tim as lots of folks on here for some reason expect Apple to sell things at a loss so you can gain more.

your budget is not an Apple issue. I hope the pricing is where we pay for what we want.

Not being low cost and given more just out of a perceived necessity to appease.

The Mac has become a long game of waiting and seeing. And considering the pie-in-the-sky "innovations" of the godawful 2016 generation are being rolled back, I wonder if the new roadmap is the result of new management by people more familiar and respectful of the Mac line and users. The previous MPBs were an insult and yes, I'm salty that we wasted so much time, effort, and money getting the right peripherals just so Apple would go "nevermind" on their whatever-vision a few years down the line.
Results of new management is generally cheaper costs and more profit. In this case, by removing the touchbar they are removing costs for more profit AND customer satisfaction. I’m one of the macbook 16 touch bar not so proudly owner 🥺.

The 16 inch is what I am interested and holding out for but unless that thing just WOW's the ---- out of me. It will be next year or next M-whatever revision.
My current i9 8Core has not done me wrong or let me down.
The 4 USB-C ports are good but an SD Card slot would be nice. My cameras are USB-C but I prefer transferring from the card itself rather than having to have a pretty large camera or 2 sitting on the desk.

I do not get people like you. Are you paid by Apple? Apple is the biggest penny pincher company out there. This does not mean they don't make good products.
They are obv. leveraging their product's strength to make as much money they can possibly make out of you.

First, make the laptop unrepairable and then sell expensive Apple Care+ for 25-30% cost of the laptop.
100$ dongles, chargers.
The counter-argument is why not use 3rd party cheaper accessories.

When MacBooks start bricking with 3rd party accessories. -> Counter argument is why save 50$ on a cheaper accessory.

I could care not care less if you get me as I’m not here for your entertainment or to explain anything to you.

have a good night.

It would be insanely great if Apple found a way to incorporate both Thunderbolt and MagSafe capabilities on the same port — perhaps one on each side of the chassis — and particularly at 90 degrees. There are third party adapters that do this for basic USB-C and ones that purport to do it for Thunderbolt, but I've yet to find one of the latter that works. For those of us that continually plug/unplug our MBs from docks, it would be of great benefit to reduce the wearing on those ports. I've gone through several adapters over the past few years just trying to keep the stress off of that area. Given that other manufacturers have approached success, this seems well within Apple's ability to master.

(Note: I'm not suggesting that all the TB3 ports work in this way; the inclusion of standard TB3/USB-C ports is obviously preferable for those that require a secure connection to drives and such. A set on each side would provide the most flexibility; although I would take one over none.)

Also...LOL to everyone who thinks that eliminating the TouchBar will compel Apple lower the price of anything. Are you new to this?

I have no idea what you are talking about.

Dont buy Apple products if you think they are not good value to you. It’s a very simple premise.
Absolutely every single time I have decided to buy from the competition has ended in regret, due to poor quality service, build etc. But feel free to get your ‘value’ from these brands - as you do certainly get what you pay for.

A business exists to make as much money from you as they can, and they are not altrusitic in intention as may be marketed.

TouchBar is an interesting concept, but it's not present in most Apple computers (not even all portables) and makes no sense when using an external keyboard. I barely use it, as my laptop is usually on my desk, hooked to external screens

Only if you buy the cheaper laptops.

If you get a $999 laptop then $249 is a pretty high percentage and would be kind of foolish.

But if you get 32GB of RAM and 1 or 2 TB of storage for your MBP 13", it's more like 10-15% (the more you spend the more cost-effective your AppleCare is).

Would really like to see chip level optimization of video chats, since using a fairly recent MacBook Air with Google Meet makes the fans spin up like crazy. Even after covid more people are going to be working from home, and if CES 2021 made any indication of where tech is headed, home offices are getting some much needed upgrade options this year.

And consequently, massively upgraded FaceTime cameras should really be a part of that.
If they don't update the camera for FaceTime it will be very sad....enough is enough.
