The only potential tripping point for me is that they end up having the same ports as the Mac Mini, i.e. just 2 USB-C and the same amount of bandwidth of the sum of the ports. Not sure if they'll add in additional controllers to make things any faster, but doubt it since it's still the M1 architecture.

Nice, although lesson learnt too often. I am not going to be their tester this time around. I will leave it to others and wait 6 months to make sure there are no early issues.
Yup… after the external monitor GPU fiasco with the 2019 MBP 16 (which had never been fixed) and 5000Eur wasted I’m waiting to make sure there are no deal breakers.

Assuming this is true, then this is great news. I’ve been waiting patiently to get a new Apple Silicon 14 or 16 inch Mac. Probably the 14 inch.

Didn’t this rumor first started back 2010? I wrote a 10 page review of my M1 that wanted published on a website I wrote for, but never did. Will share it in the forums shortly.

The M1 Macs were by all measures the beta testers for these. Those have been met with great reviews and so far so good. These are final product. These are what i have been waiting for.
The M1’s are just beefed up A series processors, so we’ve been ’beta’ testing these chips/devices since the iPhone 4 when the A4 chip came out in 2010.

I’d expect these models to be part of a “2nd generation” as it were that builds on the originals, that would include expanding the port and memory options.

If they don’t, the Intel machines will need to stick around till they do. I love my Air and have been impressed with what it can do, but for complex 4K video projects 16GB of shared RAM isn’t enough.

I wonder if the webcams in the new M1 notebooks will be scanning our interiors and compare them to the hash databases of the US Chamber of Commerce for illicit paintings? We think you are going to love it!
I’d just be grateful for an improvement on the decades-old 720p spec.

The rest of the chipset is where progress is needed. iPhones never had to deal with multiple usb/thunderbolt inputs. The M1 Macs have been great in terms of the processor but borderline garbage for ports.

It also had a broken keyboard. And a failure-prone SSD. And a failure-prone Core2Duo*. And that single USB port often failed as well. An overpriced paperweight.
Paperweight and in my case, also a potential firestarter. Fried it’s own logic board whilst backing up. Took me 4 years to be able to recover partial data loss.

Question...

The Macbook Air has been Apple's $999 laptop for quite a while.

And the 13" Macbook Pro started at $1,299 for the entry-level 2-port model... and $1,799 for the upgraded 4-port model. Then the 15" or 16" started at the $2,799 price point.

Do we think this new 14" Pro will start at the $1,799 price? And keep the older-style 13" MBP at $1,299?

Or will the 14" start at $1,299? Replacing the entry 13" ?

I'm pretty sure the Macbook Air will stay at $999... but there will be a huge price gap if they jump straight to $1,799 for the 14"

I think Apple is going to really struggle keeping up with the demand for these. A confluence of factors means these are going to sell like crazy and I think the price will have to be relatively high to keep things remotely in balance.

Once I had a MacBook Air 2013, and around 2016/2017, I wanted to upgrade to a faster notebook. I waited until the whole butterfly keyboard fiasco was over. So when the MacBook Pro 13" was announced in 2020, with another keyboard, I bought it. However, I knew its lifetime would be short due to the Apple Silicon transition. The 2013 machine wouldn't last another year, so I bought it anyway and thought I'd replace it once the 14" machines were available. This was the plan until last week.

I'm so incredibly pissed about the whole photo scanning debacle that I seriously doubt I'll ever buy an Apple product again. I'm completely sucked into the ecosystem, having products in virtually every category, so this is no small deal. I've been promoting the brand for over 15 years to everyone and mainly promoted its stand on privacy for the last couple of years. I'm astonishingly disappointed and went from more or less a fanboy to a pessimist.

I was hoping to hear rumors of a new 12 inch MacBook. The one they discontinued was really nice to carry with you. It didn’t hurt my back to carry in my backpack, and it was a real computer, unlike the iPad. Oh well.
Grab the 2022 13” M-chip Air
