Thinking that the Mac mini pro will be a scaled back Mac Pro tower with a couple PCI slots, with a M.2 slot and memory slots. There is still a need for a mid sized tower at $3000. Not everyone want to throw away their old Mac every 4 to 5 years.Slightly off-thread but still this Autumn’s M1X topic - anyone think there’s a chance we will see something labelled as a Mac Mini Pro instead of just a higher tier Mac Mini?
Google "Quanta Apple hack" and try to find the documents for J316
You'll get 3 and all thunderbolt. The M1X supports up to 4 TB4 ports.Interesting. Glad they brought back the HDMI port, and SD card slot. Needs more USB-C though...

If you're suggesting a 13 or even modern 16in MacBooks "hurt your back in a backpack" then you either have back(Which I do so I feel you there) or are just weak. Your average school kids text book weighs a lot more than any of those devices and they carry like 4-5 of them at any time. Through my whole career no matter what laptops I used I've never had a bag as heavy as I did in K-12 or college.I was hoping to hear rumors of a new 12 inch MacBook. The one they discontinued was really nice to carry with you. It didn’t hurt my back to carry in my backpack, and it was a real computer, unlike the iPad. Oh well.
Agreed. Back in middle school I had to carry up 20 lbs of books at a time. My M1 Air is a breeze compared to that torture. If you're suggesting a 13 or even modern 16in MacBooks "hurt your back in a backpack" then you either have back(Which I do so I feel you there) or are just weak. Can't come soon enough... take my money Apple.
Apple suppliers have begun mass production of the upcoming redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, intending to reach as many as 800,000 monthly shipments of the laptop by the end of November, according to new reporting from DigiTimes.

Apple's upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro have been rumored for what feels like an eternity, but their launch is expected to be close. Multiple reports have suggested Apple is planning a busy fall season of product releases, including new iPhones, Apple Watches, and AirPods.
The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, which are expected to feature a brand new mini-LED display, an updated design, and a more powerful Apple silicon chip, will debut before the end of the year. Production of the laptops was widely reported to have started in the third quarter of the year, and DigiTimes' report today has confirmed those reports.
A previous report by DigiTimes indicated that the new laptops would launch in September, presumably alongside the upcoming iPhone 13 and Apple Watch Series 7. While theoretically possible, Apple would likely be more content with hosting a second event this fall dedicated fully to the Mac rather than include it in the expected September iPhone keynote.
Last week, Apple filed multiple unreleased products, including Macs and Apple Watches in the Eurasian database. While the filing only includes the model's IDs, they are likely to be the upcoming MacBook Pros and Apple Watch Series 7.
Nonetheless, whenever Apple does decide to release the new laptops, they're expected to be in high demand. Apple has reportedly invested more than $200 million in securing additional production capacity for mini-LED displays for the laptops and has actively sought additional suppliers for its supply chain.

Nice, although lesson learnt too often. I am not going to be their tester this time around. I will leave it to others and wait 6 months to make sure there are no early issues.
I agree that I don't want to be field-testing anyone's new HW or SW... While I don't wait "6 months", I do wait for long enough to feel comfortable that there aren't unusual numbers of negative events reportedNice, although lesson learnt too often. 2.8lbs vs 2 lbs. Big difference anctually. What’s wrong with the Air? Its light and easy to carry![]()
It's Apple. They constantly rip the band and don't look back. A big value prop for moving to SOC is performance per watt, powerful and efficient. These notebooks won't be Intel.I still think that you will see two processor options a Intel i9 to satisfy users that still need some issues yet to be addressed and a M1X. We are still in a processor shortage and Apple can get Intel processors pretty regularly still. Could be that the MacBook Pro 14 will be a M1X processor but the MacBook Pro 16 will still be an Intel for 1 more generation of product.
Like we have seen, Apple is not getting rid of the Xeon processor yet for the Mac Pro tower.
Did you see the news today about it? Much milder than I first thought.Once I had a MacBook Air 2013, and around 2016/2017, I wanted to upgrade to a faster notebook. I waited until the whole butterfly keyboard fiasco was over. So when the MacBook Pro 13" was announced in 2020, with another keyboard, I bought it. However, I knew its lifetime would be short due to the Apple Silicon transition. The 2013 machine wouldn't last another year, so I bought it anyway and thought I'd replace it once the 14" machines were available. This was the plan until last week.
I'm so incredibly pissed about the whole photo scanning debacle that I seriously doubt I'll ever buy an Apple product again. I'm completely sucked into the ecosystem, having products in virtually every category, so this is no small deal. I've been promoting the brand for over 15 years to everyone and mainly promoted its stand on privacy for the last couple of years. I'm astonishingly disappointed and went from more or less a fanboy to a pessimist.
The concept was awesome. The execution and price is another matter. I’d love to replace my 11” iPP with a well executed MacOS 12” MacBook. From your lips to Tim's ears. That machine was awesome.
And any news on the large 27” iMac (or what ever the new size may be).
Waiting for that + 27" iMac too!The latest guesstimate is around March next year, unfortunately.
