Nice, although lesson learnt too often. I am not going to be their tester this time around. I will leave it to others and wait 6 months to make sure there are no early issues.
Ya know.... I use to be exactly like this when it came to computer, cars and electronic devices and then I realized something, you'll be waiting in the wind for the rest of your life with this approach. Apple's M1 chip has been beta testing for almost a year now out in the public market along with however long it was being tested internally. You'll be alright with whatever comes out this year.

Exactly, and also get Apple Care just in case…

Yeah, ok.

When I told Apple my new MBP had faulty keys, no, they said, just dirt, AC won't cover that.
When I told Apple my next new MBP had this odd effect like stage lights after a few months, not a fault they are aware of. No AC cover.

Eventually and too late, oh they are both issues. We will cover it now.

So sure, I will be alright purchasing on day one with AC

Apple suppliers have begun mass production of the upcoming redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, intending to reach as many as 800,000 monthly shipments of the laptop by the end of November, according to new reporting from DigiTimes.

Apple's upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro have been rumored for what feels like an eternity, but their launch is expected to be close. Multiple reports have suggested Apple is planning a busy fall season of product releases, including new iPhones, Apple Watches, and AirPods.

The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, which are expected to feature a brand new mini-LED display, an updated design, and a more powerful Apple silicon chip, will debut before the end of the year. Production of the laptops was widely reported to have started in the third quarter of the year, and DigiTimes' report today has confirmed those reports.

A previous report by DigiTimes indicated that the new laptops would launch in September, presumably alongside the upcoming iPhone 13 and Apple Watch Series 7. While theoretically possible, Apple would likely be more content with hosting a second event this fall dedicated fully to the Mac rather than include it in the expected September iPhone keynote.

Last week, Apple filed multiple unreleased products, including Macs and Apple Watches in the Eurasian database. While the filing only includes the model's IDs, they are likely to be the upcoming MacBook Pros and Apple Watch Series 7.

Nonetheless, whenever Apple does decide to release the new laptops, they're expected to be in high demand. Apple has reportedly invested more than $200 million in securing additional production capacity for mini-LED displays for the laptops and has actively sought additional suppliers for its supply chain.

My brand new 2019 16" that I just got replaced in February will already be outdated. Hope there are pros to that!

Right, but we’re talking about MBPs. Is there a history of Apple forcing buyers to use the first version of a new OS? If so, I can’t recall it.

A major release, no, I don’t think so.

Why would Apple do this? If people still want Intel, they can buy one today.

They’ve done it with multiple other Macs (currently the 13-inch MBP, iMac, and Mac mini). Why? So people can still get an Intel Mac.

We'll likely see one 16-inch model that's still Intel. I don't think it'll be Tiger Lake, though; it'll simply be a Coffee Lake Refresh 2019 model.
I can't see that happening. Would they put this Intel bump in the existing 16" design, while the Ms get the long rumored and highly anticipated new design?

I think the why is because the current generation M1s are for entry level Macs, with Intels being the for the upgraded models. The next generation M will more than likely replace the Intel models. Simplifying the lineup, not making it more complex.

Ok first of all you're my hero for that handle. 6500 🙈.

And that dude is a troll. A new intel MacBook? give me a break.

I said I do not expect an Intel bump.

Oh, I’m not saying the Intel models will stick around forever. I’m merely saying I can imagine one particular high-end Intel laptop sticking around for a while.

And yes, once higher-end Mac minis roll out (if they ever do again), those will likely kill off the remaining Intel minis.

I was hoping to hear rumors of a new 12 inch MacBook. The one they discontinued was really nice to carry with you. It didn’t hurt my back to carry in my backpack, and it was a real computer, unlike the iPad. Oh well.
not a fan of the MacBook Air? I have no issue carrying mine around

Yeah, this is way better news than they would not hit market until 2022. Fall release is great! I've been needing one.

Once I had a MacBook Air 2013, and around 2016/2017, I wanted to upgrade to a faster notebook. I waited until the whole butterfly keyboard fiasco was over. So when the MacBook Pro 13" was announced in 2020, with another keyboard, I bought it. However, I knew its lifetime would be short due to the Apple Silicon transition. The 2013 machine wouldn't last another year, so I bought it anyway and thought I'd replace it once the 14" machines were available. This was the plan until last week.

I'm so incredibly pissed about the whole photo scanning debacle that I seriously doubt I'll ever buy an Apple product again. I'm completely sucked into the ecosystem, having products in virtually every category, so this is no small deal. I've been promoting the brand for over 15 years to everyone and mainly promoted its stand on privacy for the last couple of years. I'm astonishingly disappointed and went from more or less a fanboy to a pessimist.
Ditto.

If you're suggesting a 13 or even modern 16in MacBooks "hurt your back in a backpack" then you either have back(Which I do so I feel you there) or are just weak. Your average school kids text book weighs a lot more than any of those devices and they carry like 4-5 of them at any time. Through my whole career no matter what laptops I used I've never had a bag as heavy as I did in K-12 or college.
Not only just that, but that would also imply that the bag is too heavy as well. For example, the Swiss Army gear bags actually are quite heavy, and they are seen as the top of the line for backpacks:

Just those alone are 3-4lbs without having anything in it. Add in a MBA or MBP and you're looking at 6-8lbs alone, plus the fact that while they are utilitarian, they are bulky. However, because we started a family 11 years ago, my wife and I picked up this:

51oJKu7xVPL._AC_.jpg

The funny thing: It's a diaper bag!! yet I have 2 drink carriers in it, a clasp for car keys, soft container to keep my glasses should I need them, 4 different pouches, a 5th secret pouch at the back in front of the straps to slot in an iPad (a changing pad normally would go there), and at the time, my wife's 15" MBP could fit in the main pouch, without a case. My 13" MBA fits with a case cleanly, and still leaves room for a couple of books.

And to top that off, it's barely 2lbs completely empty.

My point: if a 13-16" Macbook is too heavy, and the M1 MBA is barely 2.8lbs, either the body is breaking down, or the bag you're using is too heavy. Either way, it isn't the laptop that is the problem.

BL.

The M1 Macs were by all measures the beta testers for these. Those have been met with great reviews and so far so good. These are final product. These are what i have been waiting for.
From a purely internal hardware point of view you may be right. But apart from that, a Macbook can, and this is just from its history, from the top of my head:
- bend
- fry its own ports
- battery can die
- keyboard redesign can fail
- hinges can break
- case coating can chip off
- screen cable can be too short causing the screen to fail
- screen anti glare coating can disintegrate

and there’s still a few other things.
Since some of these things have happened repeatedly, you never know what Apple might miss the next iteration, which is why it is wise to wait until it becomes clear that something is either not happening or so widespread that there’s a generous repair program for it…

Ok, so 14” m1x/m2 then with 32Gb RAM and 1TB storage.
But I don’t think they will release it 2021 or well they maybe do release it but you can’t buy it ;)
If I was Apple, I'd totally mess with EVERYBODY and stamp "M3" on the chips. Or "MB-M3", or even "Old MacDonald Had a Farm", or "Candy-O, I need you".

I'm SO totally and 100% DOWN with messing with everybody on that chip model number, lol! 😈 😅

No. It was bad. Horrible kb. SLOW. Was not a "real computer". A Premium Netbook at the most.

So what do you all think about all this monitoring from apple? I mean its kind of scary, paying soo much money for a device that will monitor you….

maybe time to look into linux based laptops

The Photos application on the Mac has analysed every photo for many years now. I believe in the latest releases that information is also synched to iCloud.
