Fake news. The new laptops will be renamed. It's gonna be "SpyBook Pro 14" and "SpyBook Pro 16".
mini led? 🤮
i really wanted one of these laptops as well. maybe i'll just get a mac mini or hope they don't ruin the Air with a Mini LED too.
Yeah, unfortunately you're probably right; the "doubt they would ship with Big Sur" part, in particular. And that's a bummer, because it will mean the release will be a "hurry-up-and-wait" situation again, while devs clear their software for Catalina. The one reason this might not happen is because Apple surely knows that software compatibility will be the single factor holding people back from upgrading. If they did allow these machines to boot Big Sur they'd likely sell a lot more of them on release day... at least to anyone who's software-of-choice dev is still dragging their heels.October seems obvious. I doubt they would ship with Big Sur and the macOS release is always a few weeks after the iOS launch and iPhone presentation. Also having prerecorded keynotes makes it easier than ever, they can just cut and edit it. I wouldn’t be surprised if they already filmed it with the iOS 15 announcement months ago
This video explains it well. I agree with his theoryQuestion...
The Macbook Air has been Apple's $999 laptop for quite a while.
And the 13" Macbook Pro started at $1,299 for the entry-level 2-port model... and $1,799 for the upgraded 4-port model. Then the 15" or 16" started at the $2,799 price point.
Do we think this new 14" Pro will start at the $1,799 price? And keep the older-style 13" MBP at $1,299?
Or will the 14" start at $1,299? Replacing the entry 13" ?
I'm pretty sure the Macbook Air will stay at $999... but there will be a huge price gap if they jump straight to $1,799 for the 14"
Agree. It was terrible. Good on paper. But horrible execution. It also had a broken keyboard. And a failure-prone SSD. And a failure-prone Core2Duo*. And that single USB port often failed as well. An overpriced paperweight.
Not on MacsThe M1’s are just beefed up A series processors, so we’ve been ’beta’ testing these chips/devices since the iPhone 4 when the A4 chip came out in 2010.
I agree with this, these things are hyped to the moon. I doubt we’ll see wide/easy to get availability until 2022.I think Apple is going to really struggle keeping up with the demand for these. A confluence of factors means these are going to sell like crazy and I think the price will have to be relatively high to keep things remotely in balance.

I still think that you will see two processor options a Intel i9 to satisfy users that still need some issues yet to be addressed and a M1X. We are still in a processor shortage and Apple can get Intel processors pretty regularly still. Could be that the MacBook Pro 14 will be a M1X processor but the MacBook Pro 16 will still be an Intel for 1 more generation of product.
Like we have seen, Apple is not getting rid of the Xeon processor yet for the Mac Pro tower.

Why would these ship with Monterey? Has Apple ever forced buyers to use the first release of an OS on a new machine?
Beyond that, hard to believe Apple is manufacturing a mountain of these right now and then will go back and update the OS on each one when Monterey goes gold master.
No chance Apple is going to do this, which would cause mass buyer confusion and returns.
Did you catch this article?I was hoping to hear rumors of a new 12 inch MacBook. The one they discontinued was really nice to carry with you. It didn’t hurt my back to carry in my backpack, and it was a real computer, unlike the iPad. Oh well.
Well, any iPhone and Watch immediately comes with the newest OS.
Would they delay the MBP until Monterey is done? Probably not. Might they time it such that Monterey is done anyway? Possibly.
That's exactly what they do for iPhones, which are at a much greater scale. You only need the build to be done about two weeks earlier.
We'll likely see one 16-inch model that's still Intel. I don't think it'll be Tiger Lake, though; it'll simply be a Coffee Lake Refresh 2019 model.
So what do you all think about all this monitoring from apple? I mean its kind of scary, paying soo much money for a device that will monitor you….
maybe time to look into linux based laptops
I doubt these would be any lighter than the current models. The expectation is that these have a new design with larger screens inside cases that are close to the same size as current models. They are also expected to get a more advanced M-series chip with more ports, more RAM, and support more monitors than the M1 chips.Hi can anyone tell me if these new MacBook Pro’s are expected to be lighter than current ones and also are we expecting any new design on the MacBook Air?
Thanks
There is no reason to think that the M-series chips are the items in short supply. All industry chatter suggests the limits are in the minLED screens and in other support chips. Apple has enough control over the SOC production that they can manage supply. Using intel chips would not solve any supply chain problems and those chips are not going to work within the newly designed laptops.I still think that you will see two processor options a Intel i9 to satisfy users that still need some issues yet to be addressed and a M1X. I believe the most logical thing is for the MacBook Air to become the 12inch. Make the bessel smaller to fit the body dimensions of the 12” , and with the M1 you have a winner!!!I was hoping to hear rumors of a new 12 inch MacBook. Mac’s…..like the iPhones……are computers. Both are based on the same software. Just different form factors. Not on Macs
The rest of the chipset is where progress is needed. iPhones never had to deal with multiple usb/thunderbolt inputs. The M1 Macs have been great in terms of the processor but borderline garbage for portM1X/M2.
It's not nearly as thin or light as the 12" MacBook, which I still own. Now that they have better chip tech, Apple should relaunch that discontinued model and call it the new MacBook Air. It would sell incredibly well. What’s wrong with the Air? Its light and easy to carry![]()
Right, but we’re talking about MBPs. Is there a history of Apple forcing buyers to use the first version of a new OS? If so, I can’t recall it.
Why would Apple do this? If people still want Intel, they can buy one today.
