Not sure where Pro mini comes into it. But the Air isn’t catching up the iPad Pro… there’s still hardware features that differentiate the two.

Yet one of the biggest differentiators between the two was always the processor. Air 2 and first generation 12.9" Pro were a generations of SoC apart. The 10.5" Pro and the first generation 11" Pro and third gen 12.9" Pro were two generations of SoC apart as well. Even when the third generation Air was born out of the ashes of the 10.5" Pro, it was a weaker A12 SoC (compared to A12X and later A12Z). With the fourth generation Air and the M1 11" and 12.9" Pro, it was the same Cores between all three, but way more of them and RAM on the M1 side of things. Now the 11" Air has the exact same SoC as a 128-512GB M1 Pro with only the 1TB and 2TB models really offering anything different in terms of computing power. That's not insubstantial.

You're missing the ProMotion, LiDAR, an Ultra-wide lens, a camera flash and FaceID. I'd argue that ProMotion is the only one of those differences that is universally significant.

If we get a 14” iPad before a 15” MBA I’m going to be pissed.
SAME!!! The 13" MacBook Pro should be (and honestly should've been) replaced with a 15" version of the MacBook Air. It would've sold like hotcakes. I'm not saying I'm unhappy to see the 13" Pro stick around, but it makes WAY less marketing sense to do it this way.

Not a doubt in my mind Apple saw how popular Samsung's Tab S8 ultra was at launch, and they just decided to do the same thing. As we all know, Apple is reactionary, they don't do anything new until they have to. Samsung does all the real heavy lifting, like develop the tech that allows new form factors, like folding and rollable phones. Apple knows its blind following will convince themselves Apple isn't late or copying, they're "perfecting" the tech. This is what happens when you believe you're "locked in." Remember how 3.5 inches was supposed to be the perfect phone size? My oh my, how opinions have changed. So consider yourself lucky that companies like Samsung who push the tech envelope exist, because you'd still be looking at a 3.5 inch iPhone. Absolute joke.

Interesting. I'd use one at a table but if it comes with 16GB and isn't more than $1299 to start. I do wish Apple would consider some ventilation for their iPad Pros though.

If I pick up any additional iPads this year, it will be a 10.2 9th gen, unless I can find a new Mini 6 for under $500.

The files app seems to be pretty capable now. From what I've used on the iPadOS 16 beta the last few days, it does everything except let you litter your desktop with files
IMO that is one of Finder's best selling points for the past 38 years. I can put what I want where I want.
FILES is really restrictive in what and where things go. Now admittedly I haven't played with iPadOS 16 but if the current FILES is anything to go off of, it isn't the most pleasant experience.

For example I'm working on a large swatch of Affinity Photo files on my iPad Pro 11. In FILES the icons are smaller than a mail stamp and there is no quick preview to see which is which without opening the file directly. I can't group my files in a custom order like Finder either.

Corporate's pilot episode had Hampton DeVille coming out with a new tablet, advertising it as "It's like an iPad, but 8 times the size". We're, getting closer to that point

Does the new files app allow you to unmount media? Does it allow you to format an empty disk (with no partition) with APFS, exFAT, or HFS (something readable and writable by iPad/Mac).
What do disk utility features have to do with a usable file system? Sure, formatting a disk is useful, but lacking the ability does not diminish the overall usability of the iPad in any significant way since most consumer storage comes pre-formatted and the nuances of needing one particular compatible filesystem over another would indicate the need for cross-platform compatibility and the presence of another computer which could be used to format the drive.

I did just try dragging drive icons on the sidebar to the trash icon and while it didn't do anything for flash memory my hard drive did spin down and the icon disappeared momentarily before the drive remounted. This is probably a sign of unmount support coming at some point in the future.

Apple is reportedly developing an iPad Pro with a 14.1-inch mini-LED display, according to Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) analyst Ross Young.

iPad-14-Inches-Feature-Orange.jpg

On Twitter, Young claimed that this larger iPad Pro model will feature a mini-LED display and ProMotion like the current 12.9-inch iPad Pro:

The rumor was first shared yesterday by the hit-and-miss Twitter leaker known as "Majin Bu," who said that Apple is developing a 14.1-inch iPad Pro model with the M2 chip, configured with 512GB of storage and 16GB of memory as standard:

Majin Bu also mentioned other upcoming iPad Pro models, saying that "no major changes" are expected for the 11-inch model, while the 12.9-inch model may feature slimmer bezels around the display. As mentioned by Majin Bu, new iPadOS 16 features such as Stage Manager and Display Zoom suggest that there is a clearer use case for an ‌iPad Pro‌ with an even larger display.

Young now seems to have supported Majin Bu's rumor about the existence of a 14.1-inch iPad Pro. Young has revealed a wide range of accurate insights into Apple's plans, such as the iPhone 13 Pro's ProMotion display, the display size and bezels of the sixth-generation iPad mini, the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro's mini-LED displays with ProMotion, the M2 MacBook Air's display size, and more, so his comments are worth taking seriously.

While Majin Bu suggested that new iPad Pro models could be unveiled at an Apple event in October or November this year, Young was unsure of launch timing, saying that early 2023 "may be more likely."

The first report about even larger iPad Pro models came from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman last year. In the first edition of his "Power On" newsletter, Gurman said Apple was exploring iPads with larger displays:

The latest rumor about a 14.1-inch iPad Pro from Majin Bu and Young, in addition to Gurman's previous comments, suggest that an even larger iPad Pro model is more likely to emerge than previously thought and could arrive sooner rather than later. More immediately, Apple is expected to launch new iPad Pro models with wireless charging.

Is iBoard finally coming?

This is the news I have been waiting for.. I hope it comes to pass. I hope even a bigger size! as A photographer I just love editing on the iPad already, either standalone using one of the many excellent professional grade applications available, or attached to my Mac as a Wacom replacement. It’s already by far the most versatile computer I have ever owned, a big screen will just be the icing on the cake..

the 12.9" pro is already kinda big...and I'm a fan of the larger device sizes...will have to see what use cases would benefit from this

Probably 12 and 14 inches for iPad Pro and 11 for iPad Air
Maybe thats why 11" iPP didnt get miniLED display and isnt supposed to receive one, being phased out and replaced, partially, by M1 boosted Air 5?

I don’t understand the need to go bigger.
I’m currently in a place where I want to downsize all my products.
If there was a iPhone Mini Pro, I would buy it.
Which means I want a Mini-LED display in the 11 inch iPad Pro.
A 14 inch iPad will have ridiculous dimensions because of the aspect ratio.
This is a really disappointing rumor to hear.
You could just not buy it if it comes. There is no need to be disappointed.
I totally agree. The current Files app is garbage and basically turns a powerful iPad Pro into a mere entertainment and social media platform. We already know iPadOS 16 doesn't have a true file system like macOS, so I fail to see the point in more power without a truly usable file system. A supercar with an 1100 horse-power engine without a transmission isn't going to do much other than look and sound good, so why on earth would someone buy it. You would be better off with a bicycle if you need to go somewhere. An iPad Pro without a true file system isn't going to be of much use to those who want to use it as a work tool. You are better off with a laptop if you want to get work done it.
You do know that the mac and the ipad share the same file system. Right? Or is that in trying to sound clever your‘re conflating the file system with the app that is used to access the file system?

So, finder on the mac has been around for decades. The files app for a few years. The finder app is made to navigate around a tradition os, the files app is made to navigate around a modern os.

Could it just be that you prefer to use a traditional os? Because that’s ok! You can just buy any other computer that isn’t an iPad.

Coming here to wax lyrical about a specific device is pointless. If you don’t like it, then don’t use it. Those that use and have mastered it have completely different workflows to using a traditional OS. And guess what? We’re all able to get our work done perfectly fine.

I draw the line at 12.9' /128GB , and I have only ever opted for a 256GB iPad once which was more than I needed then. I am looking forward to any further improvements/design/upgrades to my M1 12.9 at some point; preferably the rumoured hybrid IPP.

This however changes the use case narrative for graphic designers, artists, architects etc, albeit an expensive 😗viable option over any touch screen laptop, tablet and iPad offering.

So a $1,300 iPad vs $1,200 M2 MBA… yeah, that‘s not going to confuse people more than they already are.

What would make more sense is to have an iPad without a camera that’s a couple of hundred dollars cheaper. I’d bet that would sell much better than a version with a camera.

I agree. As much as I love my 12.1" iPad Pro, I have yet for find a use for the rear camera.

Like you'll hold that in your hand for long.
This would be my concern. Always thought the original 12.9 Pro was too top heavy to hold in upright position for too long. Current version is much better, but I use Magic Keyboard. iPad had always been my favorite device and I will probably get this if/when it comes out, but not happy about buying another keyboard.
