14" for a tablet sounds unwieldy, but for people who use their iPad as a professional art tool and tend to work at a desk it could be an appealing option. You're definitely trading some portability, but even then it's not at all uncommon for artists to carry around a sketchpad that's bigger than that.

Even if not readily portable, there are a lot of people that wished Apple made an iPad or iMac that could be used like the Surface Studio that Microsoft made. I don't know what the market is for that, but I know it's not zero.

And to think some folks indicated the iPad was dead and about to be buried, you only need to take a good look at this thread. There is life in the old dog yet it seems!

I think the middle-market iPad is dead. The low-end and high-end is where the growth is. The iPad Air is a great device. especially with an M1, but I think the market either just needs a basic tablet or needs a really capable tablet that gives them something they can't find anywhere else.

I’ll be on this right after I buy the 27” mini-LED mystery product that this guy was swearing up and down would be out by now 🙄

Nah, the middle market is still fine, just not robust enough to have TWO offerings: 11" Air and 11" Pro.

That needs to be whittled down to 1 offering.

Starting at $1299. Calling it now.

And the rest. Given the price bumps on the new MacBook Air, I’m expecting new 11” at $999, $1199 for the 12” and then now I suspect it will be $1399 or $1499 for the 14”. Especially with 512gb and 16gb starting.

Unless they do ditch the 11” pro because the Air is catching up, then I could see prices being $1099 and $1299.

Considering the 11" Pro outsells the 12.9" I doubt it. They wouldn't even ditch the 13" MBPro which we thought they all would after last year. I would expect them to ditch the 12.9" to have a larger difference between the two models if anything goes.

14" iPad?!

I remember when I got the first generation 12.9" iPad Pro -- the first one of that size. Used it at work all the time and no one had ever seen an iPad that large. People would stop me and ask about it. Can't imagine the kinds of comments at 14.1" iPad will generate.

Majin bu…that big bloated balloon freak. He‘s nothing, just a trickster. I am a warrior, the saiyan prince Vegeta.

Maybe thats why 11" iPP didnt get miniLED display and isnt supposed to receive one, being phased out and replaced, partially, by M1 boosted Air 5?
I think it's a bad idea to phase out the 11" Pro. With minLED, would be a heck of a good ultraportable device especially in light of all the benefits of iPadOS 16 for M1 and miniLED iPads.

Like you'll hold that in your hand for long.
It’s not expected that people would. I’d say that’s common sense, being how unwieldy it will be if this rumor is true.

Look what Apple is doing with the iPad. They’re turning into a stationary desk-top computer with the keyboard. This seems way more plausible.

Yeah, but that one looks to be on its last legs, since they've done pretty much nothing to it except change the CPU.
If they put an M2 in the 11" iPad Pro it will set it above the iPad Air enough with some other features like ProMotion and Face ID to justify the cost difference. When you factor in the iPad and the iPad mini, the iPad Air doesn't hold the same position in its respective lineup as the MacBook Air does which makes me believe the iPad Air will see fewer updates and stay in the lineup in its current configuration longer while the basic iPad starts to nibble away at its features and become more Air-like. In a few years this would make the Air have more in common with the bottom end than the top with a widening gap between the Pros (at any screen size) and the Air.

I don't have the 12.9 but I find my iPad's rear camera pretty useful for scanning and converting written documents.
I do that too but I just do it with the phone because it's just easier to wield and I honestly don't even remember the iPad has a camera until afterwards.

Looking at the pricing scheme the iPad Pro's simply are not value for the money, this is not expensive. Now that they are merging iPad and Mac closer (against Steve' original point), you'll still be better off buying a Mac.

How the wheels have turned. Long live the Mac.
