What do you guys think about the 7 hours battery - isn't that a big step back from previous gen performance? Is this a worth price to pay for some of the other (let's face it) excellent specs?

Not adding usb 3 is a big mistake, lightbolt is destined to go the way of firewire 800. Oh well, no skin of my back, I got this / last years model.

I agree completely. FW800 is obviously a much better tech than USB 2.0 was, but it carried a significant premium and devices are way too difficult to find.

So the MBP13 gets a processor bump, but falls 3 hours in battery life and does not get a higher resolution? This is really dissapointing and to be honest, I kinda regret not buying the previous generation now..

you guys whine and complain about dual cores.... now that you get quad cores you whine and complain about battery life  what did you expect? honestly... wow.

High res is still an option.

Does anybody know the difference in benchmarks between

1) 2.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with 6MB L3 cache

2) Optional 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with 8MB L3 cache

?

They usually sell the high res glossy of the 15" in store, correct?

hope so, but would like confirmation as well.

if they don't I might just walk down and get a 13" air and limp with that until the 13" pro gets it's screen updated. I need a computer and don't have time to wait.

I thought apple changed the way they measure battery life since the new MBA . The old 10 hour claim would be more like 7 or 8 hours if they use the new standards.

Battery life is the same but on paper it looks less. Can someone confirm this

Yeah well maybe everyone doesnt have crappy eyesight like you?

That's a good point, but unfortunately a lot of people DO have crappy eyesight, and Apple has crappy resolution independence. Until Apple can resolve the fundamental problem of an 11pt font being a different size on the screen depending on resolution, I don't see them offering super-high resolution screens.

Having the fonts too small for journalists to read highlights the fundamental issue with how OS X handles resolution, and makes Apple look bad. I agree, it sucks. BTW if your eyes are perfect, congratulations. Mine were until I turned 37. Now, on my 1920x1200 22" monitor I have to set a minimum font size in my browsers to 14pt, which screws up a lot of web pages. Oh well.

How do these releases typically work? Here are my questions if someone could kindly help me out.

1.) Are these new models typically available on launch day? (aka can I walk into the Apple store or Best Buy and buy one TODAY.
2.) What do they do with the old models? I think these prices are ridiculous for the 15's and 17's...do they lower the prices on the old ones? Maybe I'll pick up a loaded 15'' 2010 model if so.

The pricing I'm seeing is very disappointing. The base 13'' sucks for $1200 but for $300 more you can get the better processor and a litlte extra HD space but still with that crappy resolution? I'd consider the higher end 13'' if it had a better resolution and some other differences.

the 15'' looks nice but $1800 starting price and it costs extra to get HD resolution?

Not sure how I'm feeling about this right now.

not sure if i really need/want 1680-by-1050 on a 15 rather than just the standard 1440 by 900 pixels ????. pretty sure on anti-glare. guess i will just have to get down to a store and look.

The new pictures of the MBP on the Apple website do not show a mini-display port. How do you set up an external monitor???
http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/features.html

im gonna venture you did zero reading about lightpeak/thunderbolt.

But The Thunderbolt port, is also a Mini-display port.

You can hook up multiple devices, such as a display, raid arrays, hard drives etc thru thunderbolt and even daisy chain up to 6 devices.
